Jamin, all signs point to DNF being nearly done.

Yes... i was trying to setup an dutch DNF site... already registered the domain in february 2008 so was trying to make something up.. my plan was to put it online in august but now thet 3drealms shutdown i don't think i will use it again for that kind of site... already thinking of an DNF tribute site.. Guys, I call shenanigans!

Neither 3DRealms nor anyone at 3DRealms confirmed this. No indication was given this was coming - in fact based on the amount of material lately, I'd say they should be releasing soon.

The posts by Joe Siegler are misleading. Look at his replies and you'll see he's actually not been confirming this; some of his posts actually suggest the opposite.

What in the world are you talking about? His posts seemed like pretty clear confirmation to me.

And the closing of the DNF forum on the 3DR forums doesn't ring a bell?
Also Joe has not deleted the thread yet which means there is a true point in it..

I think that we will know more next week when it gets officially annouced.. perhaps also some news about current game developments

I just had a really horrible thought. 3DR have a thing where they pay all employees a percentage of game profits as long as they work there. What if the game is done but they didn't want to honour that deal or could not afford to so basically they shut the doors, get rid of everybody and in a few months they release DNF under Apogee.

That would be a really shitty thing to do and I doubt it has anything to do with it but business is business and it's a least a very small possibility right?

Hyperactice Slob talked to George:

Quote

I talked with George a couple minutes ago and asked him what he felt about DNF's cancellation this what he said. Word for word.

George Broussard: Nothing is over! Nothing! You just don't turn it off! It wasn't my game! You asked me, I didn't ask you! And I did what I had to do to meet schedule! But somebody wouldn't let us! And I come back to the world and I see all those maggots at the forums, protesting me, spitting. Calling me "game killer" and all kinds of vile crap! Who are they to protest me? Huh? Who are they? Unless they've been me and been there and know what the hell they're yelling about!

Lol nice Rambo post. I practically know that speech by memory.

"Back there I could fly a gunship, I could drive a tank, I was in charge of a 5 million dollar game fund, back here I can't even hold a job PARKING CARS! "

EviL AnGeL, that isn't how 3DR operates. True, I never worked there, but George B. and Scott M. would NEVER do that.

Two questions if someone knows:

1) To how much remaining time are approximately the 5 million translated to? (based on the personnel and their average wages for example- IF THAT RUMOUR IS true which i am not that sure)

2) Except DNF, what other title was 3d Realms openly discussing to develop in the future? I think NONE!!!! If DNF was in its last one or two years then DEFINITELY there should be another team start working on their next project. But NO! There was not the slightest hint for a next title!!! All the new projects were moved to Radar Group....

That was disturbing. It sounds like the speech of a man who knows that his life, as it has been, is over.

It's actually (almost verbatim) a quote from First Blood, so there is an element of humor in there. But still... if it's a valid quote GB is pretty PO'ed

Just in case some of you didn't recognize it; that whole "Nothing is over! Nothing! You just don't turn it off!"-speech is from First Blood (Rambo), with a few words changed.

I've wondered this myself and this is a total guess but 35 employees $60,000 each per year 1.75 million. Supply costs, rent, fuel bills. Say 2.5 million a year maximum would make it 2 years. Even with the restart in 2003 8-9 years development on the current version would still be insane. Basically I think the game just wasn't anywhere near as done as we thought.

If the game is truly dead now I hope George will put this to bed so we can all just stop with the pipe dream.

When 3D Realms goes down, it has to have some fireworks with it.

well if it is from george it would seem he is gonna give up right now with the whole nothing is over. even if it is a quote from a film he wouldnt say it unless he is planning that things arent over.
