Fred just posted something on Facebook regarding bombshell as an IP, which is interesting. :)

At release we hit a stream of polarized reviews. The game scored both 9/10's and 3/10's from major publications.

Interesting indeed.

Hmm.... According to OpenCritic, Bombshell's in the bottom 2.3% of all games they've reviewed and it received a "generally unfavorable reviews" rating on Metacritic.

I wonder if Interceptor will ever release their 1.3 patch (last update was in September)?

Also of note, both Bombshell and Rad Rogers have failed to crack 10,000 sales on Steam.

They really need to advertise more.

And why are they sticking to the niche genres? It pretty much means that even if they have a 'hit', the maximum audience potential is pretty limited.

Polymer wishlist: Global illumination, SSAO, Bloom, reflective surfaces, adjustable specular (wetness), volumetric lighting.

IGN Romania and Gamerassault were two not listed that ranked it 9/10, so that statement isn't entirely untrue.

Games Report Swaziland scored the game 10/10 and bestowed it their GOTY award, but I wouldn't describe that site as a major publication either.

Wouldn't call platformers niche though. Good platformers have huge demand on the market and many platformers were selling well.

I don't understand how the number of owners of the game can go down. Does this mean that if someone that bought and installed the game, then uninstalled it they are no longer considered an owner? If so, that is a very misleading way of interpreting sales.

1. Steam refunds.
2. SteamSpy is an estimation, not a direct readout of data, so it is possible for the calculated value to go down due to factors surrounding the calculation.

Any news?

Interceptor went bankrupt and laid off a bunch of their staff and rebranded themselves as Slipgate Studios, a name that's already taken by a company that produces VR games and 'experiences' but fuck those guys right, their output looks shit anyway and Slipgate is a reference to Quake and John Romero gave Fred his blessing cause Romero had a company called Slipgate Ironworks that completely failed to ever release anything after working on an MMO for an unspecified amount of time.

They're still working on Bombshell 1.3 and updates for Rad Rodgers but still haven't said anything about going in and fixing Rise of the Triad because they probably think everyone forgot about that and all the other shit they promised around release like an expansion, a shareware version, and everything else because what else builds goodwill like abandoning your 4 year old game that can't even list your systems available resolutions. They have teased a partnership with a 'big publisher' which I secretly hope is Gearbox Software because how fucking funny would that be.

Voidpoints FPS is mostly unaffected by this except they lost a couple of Interceptor staff who were helping them with stuff.

That's everything we know!

I don't hate Interceptor Slipgate and have purchased all the games they've developed so far but Bombshell was done in a shit way. A full priced top down shooter? lol dis shit ain't diablo. $15 and you would have had sales. Hopefully they're still working on SiN which Fred teased thoroughly well over a year ago before going silent on that as if it fell through or something went wrong.

We have them back, but the structuring is different.

Voidpoint works with Interceptor(New 3D Realms) on their upcoming Build game, TX(Voidpoint) is getting on good terms with Randy and he said he's getting Duke related emails every week and Fred(Interceptor) has teased working with a big publisher.

Is there a possibility that with all that connected, we could be getting a Gearbox published Duke Build game done by Voidpoint like I said could happen a few threads back or is that just wishful thinking with no chance of happening what so ever?

Interceptor ≠ "new" 3D Realms. Interceptor never owned "new" 3D Realms. Interceptor as a company is not involved with the prequel.

This is not the case and no plans are being made at this time. It's not impossible, but it's an idea that has only really occurred in fans' minds.

Given how poorly WT sold, and that Gearbox chose not to proceed with HTTKC, the chances are pretty slim. Not to mention that Gearbox is probably focusing on the future at this point, putting Duke in 'cool' new games that appeal to a mass audience as opposed to niche 20 year old tech.

Gee I wonder why it sold so poorly. It's not like Duke3D has been re-released about five hundred different times, given away for free, ported to everything imaginable and given source port releases on Steam before that cost less! Oh wait...

I think the next thing they'll do with Duke Nukem is some re-release collection that includes the rest of the games like Manhattan Project that they took down a while ago that are currently unavailable for purchase digitally anywhere barely touched if touched at all for some exorbitant price...I mean this is Gearbox we're talking about.

OT: You can still buy both Duke Nukem 3D and Manhattan Project for Microsoft platforms for some reason.

Lunick: I can't believe you can pre-order Duke Nukem 3D in 2016

When judging WT sales you should probably take in to account it being (seemingly) primarily a console release, for consoles where it hadn't been previously (re)released and where it sold considerably better from what I've seen.

Do you have any statistics for the release of the console versions to backup that claim?

Not at hand. Some were linked a ways back in the World Tour thread.
Logically, it should also have done better on consoles, as "the Megaton situation" didn't exist there. They also seem to have spent a fair share of the budget on the console versions, console versions were the only ones getting a physical release, and the featureset chosen also seem to indicate consoles being the focus.

Pitchford said something a few months back about wanting to work with Interceptor on a Duke sidescroller if Rad Rodgers turned out well, so the unnamed publisher being Gearbox wouldn't be too surprising.

Well, you should also keep in mind that physical cost money to produce. And of course they focused on consoles, it's not like Gearbox is competent enough to make good decisions. If they wanted money they would release something better instead.

"Logically" = under the unproven assumptions you have made.

On PC it competes with Megaton, EDuke32, GOG, old 90's CD's, piracy etc - on these consoles the game haven't been released before. That would put it in a better position there compared to PC.

You have no evidence that that would actually improve sales on consoles compared to PC.

Well one would expect that since there was no prior release there, there'd be higher demand and hence higher sales compared to if there was no previous release. It's sound logic. The only problem is this is relative within its own system. Ie it could have sold a lot more or a lot than than the PC, we'll need the data.

Let's also keep in mind that Megaton was on PS3, and there was 3DR's XBLA port for the Xbox 360. So maybe demand wasn't quite as red hot as it could have been since there was already a taste of Duke on the recent generation of consoles that WT is on.

All I can say is that I have never seen other players online for WT on PS4 since I bought it launch day, and the PS4 has a higher player count than X1 does.

Compared to when Duke3D first came to Xbox 360 when 3DRealms originally ported it, it was easy to get in 8 player matches instantly.
Hell, I even got to chat with Broussard right after launch on Xbox Live.

Basically I'm saying that you shouldn't expect market forces to align to niche fanboy thinking. I'll buy the lack of previous releases on the platform as a factor.

I'd like to think it didn't sell well anywhere because of Gearbox Softwares mistreatment of the franchise. Anyone who is familiar with Duke Nukem prior to Forever would already own Duke3D in some fashion. Anyone aware of Duke Nukem post Forever wouldn't want to pay money for something with the Duke Nukem name attached to it.

Now instead of talking about Duke Nukem lets get to the questions that really matter like when is the only game associated with the Bombshell IP that's worth playing coming out? Hasn't been any screenshots or news about that BUILD prequel for ages now.

I don't know if anyone here mention this idea to 3DRealms make it like EDuke32 Add Mod Support and Usermap Content with MP, Im sure it would work just don't know how much though since this game is basically new.
