Yeah the TC definitely has a lot of variety which keeps things fresh. As James said episode 2 is more focused, and refined somewhat based on aspects people didn't like about episode 1 to a degree (such that it doesn't compromise the "vision", for example; crappy voice acting ahoy!)

I'd shoot myself in the foot if you don't like the last level of the TC though Posted Image

Except I don't have a gun and even if I did I probably wouldn't shoot myself for a minor statement anyway Posted Image

It's Millhaven just fyi, since you keep saying Milwaulki B) Sorry you didn't enjoy Revolution, although I think taint is a bit too harsh of a word since we enjoyed making & playing it and it's a big change of theme from usual maps in the TC. As Mickey said the last level should hopefully be more to your tastes as it's similar to Millhaven.

Reason for edit: how did I do that?

Yes, sorry. For Providence is a lot better :)

Edit: Well, that's it. Thank you, was fun. A very interesting mod to say the least.
I can't help but wonder how exceptional the TC could have been if you focused on one or two characters though. All those art assets, weapons, sprites & HUDs etc unique to each character, must have been so much work. If there was more focus there could be the continuity, the gameplay could be a more polished & cohesive whole. I'm picturing all focus on Mikko's character solely for his PDA, scanner, inventory etc...all that expanded upon, with none of the other characters that we only use for half an hour/an hour, there could be upgrades for all weapons, no theft of weapons and so on. Basically your multiple character concept conflicts with the gameplay, holds it back (in my opinion), but it's too late now and I'm sure you wouldn't change your mind for anyone anyway :P

All in all a very cool, unique and ambitious mod, and I'll look forward to episode 2!
It may have not been what I was expecting based on first impressions, but hey it was a new style of FPS for me and very interesting nonetheless. Also, I found a secret that required the wall kick, that made me happy :)

The problem with Revolution was simply the simplicity of the level design. Mostly 1 flat plane, no platforming, mostly linear, nothing interesting to see. The squad AI could be annoying but that was minor.
I am not a fan of vehicle or turret segments in FPS at all, especially when they are forced, but I thought the mech segment was pretty cool regardless. I very much enjoyed the mod but Revolution was a low point, including the bunker, but it was still better than modern military shooter x.

At the very start Duke Ex was the impression. All the interactivity, the new mechanics, the openness of the base, the upgrades, the talking. None of that design remained consistent/was not utilized throughout the whole mod. The Abyss and Revolution being prime examples of this. Again though, it doesn't seem like you intended for that design to remain consistent, which is unfortunate but It was still cool regardless.

Would I still recommend the TC? Yes. It's free, unique, hilarious at times, and most of the gameplay mechanics are solid. In fact I am going to copy & paste this post with some adjustments for a review on your moddb page. Score: 8.5, (biased by my personal subjective complaints and expectations, though Revolution is an objective one :P), rounded up to 9/10 on moddb. good fun.

More asset sources thrown in the pile: Metal Gear Solid, STALKER, Xcom, Return to castle Wolf and who knows what else. Lol. Bring on episode 2!

Spoiler

I don't agree with the single character remark, since my past mods have all been one character and I doubt I'm going to work on anything large after this is done it's my swan song of Duke modding and I wanted it to be massive in all regards. Characters are getting a bit more fleshed out, however a few members of the team have left the community (but will stay in the TC out of respect for our frienship)

Glad you enjoyed it despite the problems you found in anycase :)

I don't think anyone's going to mind since at the current rate it'll take over 9 years to finish the TC to its original 5 episode plan :)

Review is up (CyberP). Eh, the review needs some refinements but there is a very restrictive character limit (<- Take notes for epsiode 2 :) just fucking with you.) so it will have to do.

This is kind of off-topic, but since you brought it up in this thread, I'll go ahead. I plan to try your GMDX mod, but the installation is a lengthy process, if I follow the directions on Mod DB. As of now I'm downloading New Vision, then I'll have to download HDTP, then do some stuff and only then will I actually install your mod. Downloads from Mod DB are slow as fuck so I won't even be able to finish downloading the first component (which is over 1 GB) before I leave for work. I know it can't be helped, and I'm sure that Deus Ex regulars already have those components installed so they don't have to go through that trouble, for for a newbie to DX mods it's a bit daunting.

We live in an age of cheap games and easy-to-use distribution systems, like Steam. It's very difficult for an old-fashioned mod to compete with that. Personally, I would rather have spent a few dollars for your mod on steam and have everything included and installed for me than have to go through the process manually. This is one of the major issues that modders face these days. The other is trying to make people aware that our mods exist in an overcrowded market.

Hey DT, apologies for the installation process. We do have someone working on an installer.
Since you too are an author of a gameplay mod...which actually provided a little inspiration for GMDX itself because I am a fan of D+, it would be excellent to hear what you have to say about it. The manual installation process is rather ridiculous but hopefully the guide is very clear on each step.
I'll get that installer sorted ASAP.

Btw Gameplay Nut, if you enjoyed the AMC TC, I'd also recommend Imagination World v2, the prequel TC to AMC. The first 3 episodes are fairly action oriented, but episode 4 has the action take a bit of a step back, and gives the story/exploration/suspense more of a chance to shine, perhaps not unlike the Deus Ex gameplay you crave. Indeed the episode 4 story makes a few nods to Deus Ex.

Being an earlier piece of work, it's a bit rough around the edges compared to the AMC TC, and doesn't have the upgrades/research component, but it's still a fun ride. I've posted the trailer below (don't know why the media function isn't working):

Currently playing Shadow Warrior (1997) for the first time, I'll consider giving it a shot afterwards, thanks :)

I see/hear from the trailer it has the trademark crappy voice acting, always good for a laugh :)

Don't get me wrong I love loads of action, AMC TC did gameplay depth very well without even slowing down classic FPS gameplay pace at all, an impressive feat, something I should have mentioned in my review.

@DT and anyone else interested: GMDX v6 beta released. Includes a user-friendly installer that cuts the installation process by more than half.

It's public beta but you won't find many bugs because all previous versions have had rigorous testing. It's beta mainly to test the installer (which itself has had testing but not on a widespread scale).

Check out these images which show a small glimpse of the amount of work gone into this mod: http://www.moddb.com/mods/gmdx/images
