I wonder if it's made to scale, the voxels from the HRP pack are all larger than the sprites and scaled down by the engine.

When it is posted, it should probably use this as the main image:
I didn't even see the original material used for the L.A sky until just now

This thread's getting more interesting for me.

There is one issue - The Zip includes a Prey version from 1996.
We already have that version at hand, but it cannot be released to the public, as 3D Realms no longer owns Prey.
And i have Dropbox btw. Is there any other Zip getting uploaded from the "Old Betas"?

Thanks for being so generous to the fans Frederik, and thank you TerminX and Hendricks for your hard work digging through all these files.
Of all the things uncovered, I have to say I'm most interested in the early Shadow Warrior builds, as it seems to be almost a completely different game than what would eventually be the final product.
Not saying that everything else is any less interesting!

Here's a hint: it's Frederik Schreiber, the CEO of Interceptor, the company that bought 3DR out, and the guy who started this thread that you're posting in.

Here's another hint: Fred has said repeatedly that this stuff will all be getting released in due time.
You did a very, very good job of rereading the thread.

Was there any indication of how far along the 1.7 version of 3D got before they canned it? It seems it could have gone either way (nearly done, or barely anything) before being canned.

how is it that Duke3D material is "okay" to release, but DNF material is not?
is there some kind of agreement between Frederik and GBX?
if there is an agreement, what are the stipulations, if any?
i apologize if the question is redundant. i've read the thread, but if something like that was specified, I missed it

Right from the begining when 3DR sold the IP they kept the rights to everything released prior to DNF(Plus a couple of other thing like Duke movie rights and the Bombshell character). Hence the existence of for example Duke3D Megaton Edition and DNMP iOS without the involvement of GBX.

Fred and 3DR can release alpha/beta materials of any Duke game before Duke Nukem Forever as they only own the rights to those games. Gearbox Software own the rights to Duke Nukem Forever but not any other Duke game previous to that, Gearbox will be developing any further new Duke games from now on however.

The exceptions on the future games front would be the right to develop the rest of the Duke Trilogy + the right to develop something called "Duke Nukem Survivor".
The Survivor rights are at the center of lawsuit between GBX and Interceptor/3DR. As 3DR and Interceptor are claiming Mass Destruction IS Survivor.

Sorry if I have some difficulty to understand, but when speaking of 'before DNF', it means that 3DR has still right to release betas/alphas from any Duke game below 2011 (including betas/alphas from DNF)?

so my earlier query is still not clear in my empty braincase:
can interceptor take the pre-release duke3d material and make a commercial episode out of it as an addon for vanilla duke3d? (ala D.C. or Caribbean)
if not, i'm not perfectly clear as to the reasons
to me it would be a nice little cash influx to put it on steam as an upgrade to the Megaton release
(& maybe even put it on gog as well for the non-steam players)

They said they'd give it away for free, why would you want to pay for it?
#355 Posted 22 April 2014 - 01:01 PM
i'm not implying holding the material hostage
i'm saying:
the same reason people paid for D.C. and Caribbean. you'd be paying for a professionally made episode.
they have the material, why shouldn't they use it?

Also, one of the unwritten rules of beta releases is that you release it as-is.

That's a good question. For all we know, someone could already be on top of the beginnings of an additional commercial expansion design document. There is a pretty significant amount of content and modern retro stuff like Wrack is selling pretty well (not to mention sales of the original games).

Because if they sell it for not a lot of money, then they can keep on giving us cool stuff for (hopefully) a lot more years.
I personally think it would be wondeful to have an ERP - Enhanced Res Pack, using Chucks models and high res sprites/voxels taken from the original source material. 3DR could put that together and sell it with a new set of map packs (hire some of the community for this?). They could even call it something like "The Tritium Pack" and issue it as a new, official expansion.
I'd be happy to give 3D Realms some cash for that.

You're the second person to ask me this, but unfortunately I have no experience with ROTT and I would have to struggle to answer your question. (I suppose it would be as simple as figuring out ROTT's art format, then extracting everything and deleting dupes--but it would be better for someone with more experience to do it.)
Let me tell you the dates of builds, if they would fit on the right timeline to have what you speak of. 1993-09, 1993-11, 1994-07.

I have a bit of experience with ROTT. I think it's most likely you'd find the female characters in the July 1994 build. The other two seem like they were made either when ROTT was still an overglorified Wolf 3D mod or when it was being converted from a Wolf 3D sequel to a new series.
