Wow, wait a bit there! We have the same amount of information we had when DNF was close to release: not much (it has guns, classic enemies, and "fatalities", same as DNF, but not necessarily everything needed to make a good Doom - yet). It's too early to start praising (or criticising) Doom 4.
PS: It looks promising, maybe I've become too cynical, but better safe than sorry...

DNF is a good game to some (me, PC Gamer, etc) and it's all personal taste anyway, but I understand what you're saying. This Doom game does look great to me personally, but sure you need to play it to really form your opinion.

Interesting article: Doom: 10 Badass Moments From Our Hands-On Session
Emphasis mine:

Quote

Doom isn’t all about combat. When the demon legion isn’t trying to sever your head from torso, exploration takes center stage. The UAC environments are densely populated with high technology and containers in various states of disarray.

Each new area or bulkhead brings up exploration options. You’ll stumble upon locked doors requiring key cards (just like the old Dooms), and if you are thorough in your investigation, you'll find hidden areas tucked off to the side or occupying vertical spaces. I found a series of crates I could ascend, leading to a full armor pickup. Another series of vertical maneuvers gives way to the plasma rifle, which can also be obtained later in the game, but can be added now for eagle-eyed players. Marty Stratton, Doom’s game director and executive producer, says secrets like this are in great abundance and should give players plenty of reason to veer off the critical path to explore.

So beautiful.

Yeah. I'm only saying it looks great. I'm fully aware that things can go very wrong from here on in.

But it does look pretty damn good.

Just because those things are present in the game doesn't mean they'll be there anywhere near the same extent that they were in the 90's games. People are probably comparing it to other games of the current era, in which case any hint of a locked door with an easy-to-find nearby keycard is naturally going to be a big deal.

Games have promised complex level design in the past without being able to deliver.

I like the graphics so far. But I hoped the Baron and the Cyberdemon would look more like Baphomet.

I'm gonna remain cautiously optimistic if only because I really like the artstyle and it reminds me of the metal-inspired feelings of the old dooms in some ways, and it seems like even if it isn't exactly what we are expecting it's still gonna be a game where you are able to avoid damage by dodging with movement, which to find in a AAA game nowadays is almost impossible. Also I was expecting Wolf TNO to be shit and I ended up loving that game.

I do understand and accept that it could be totally shit though.

These new screenshots seem to show the game with a lot more colour than what was previously shown at E3.

Porting the Blood weapons to Doom, accurately.
The animations are converted from the original QAV files with a small tool I wrote.

Awesome stuff!
I was always a bigger fan of Blood's Shotgun and Tommygun above all other games of the era (with exception to Doom 2's super shotgun)

Now that's my favorite Doom game

I like the atmosphere and the music adds to it. It still feels like the original Doom also only darker.

Romero made a new Doom WAD. It's his take on E1M8. Granted, it's just one map, but I'm kinda psyched to get home and fire this puppy up, his maps in the originals were always some of the best.

It's been 21 years since I made a DOOM level. Here's my version of E1M8 using DOOM1.WAD. I limited myself to only the shareware assets.

Just played it myself on UV. It's great and brutal as hell especially at the very start. The Bruiser Brothers battle is kinda easy though if you have any rocket ammo left.

Today was a really good day; work was great, got a lot done, worked on my personal game projects more and see some awesome stuff happening with them, wife is in general in a good mood, found out a good friend of mine will be going to work at my place of employment, and then got home to see this.
And it was fun! It had so much backtracking that didn't feel boring because the level just kept opening up more and more and more and more and it was awesome.
I only found 4 secrets and only a couple enemies left, and yeah playing it on UV was pretty challenging.

That was awesome, and apparently Romero is only warming up with it

If you get Akimbo the Doom 2 SSG has nothing on Blood's Sawn-Off.

Since John Romero made a map recently. I really like to see Richard "Levelord" Grey make a map next. Either Doom, DukeNukem3D, Shadow Warrior, Quake 1 or 2 or SiN.

Thought the same exact type of thing and it would be best if it was for Duke.

Hey is anyone having troubles accessing that dropbox link? I was far to busy to try it out yesterday so I go to get it today and the link just keeps loading till I get this

"502 Bad Gateway

The server returned an invalid or incomplete response."

After clicking it about 30 times it went through...

Gameinformer article on the new Doom:
http://www.gameinfor...on-of-hell.aspx

They reveal a new monster called a summoner, who can teleport in other baddies, I couldn't help but picture a Disciple from Heretic!

Also, in another bout of nostalgia, crushers are back. Can't say I was rooting for their return, but hey...

Theres also jump pads, teleporters are used more in combat (unlike in Doom 3 where they were just a plot device) and you find items that can upgrade your marine. It also sounds like there will be 'elite' versions of monsters that give out special loot called 'runes'

Was waiting for someone to share that actually saw this way earlier and then more because of NukemDave was sharing thanks. Pretty awesome that something can come out related to that. Is there a specific reason doom64 ex can't release anyone know? There is nothing wrong with the game itself so I assume there is some rights in the way. I could ask night dive and kaiser but umm everytime we do talk its kind of about Turok business and important so hard to fit anything else in honestly. I would be willing to bet Doom 64 would sell good on steam.

I don't think there is a specific reason why Doom 64 EX couldn't release but I imagine its rights are distributed somewhere between either Warner Bros. or Zenimax or even someone else.

If we couldn't get Blood from Warner Bros. and the Commander Keen source code from Zenimax then appreciate how easy it is to obtain Doom 64 rom to use in Doom 64 EX.

At least Doom 64 EX is still available; Powerslave/Exhumed is still hidden.

Also, Romero confirmed he is not done making Doom maps

I was skeptical about it but I noticed it's Sergeant Mark IV himself who's making it so it has my seal of approval.
