Even as a placeholder this is pretty lame, so hopefully they can come up with something a little more exciting for the final artwork.

I think Halo meets Metroid Prime meets Call of Duty meets Battlefield is a highly imaginative image concept to sell a game on.

Here's the new campaign trailer for DOOM (2016)

What do you guys think?

Off-topic. Hope Gearbox follows DOOM 2016's formula w/ Duke Nukem 5.

EDIT: Arriving on May 13, 2016.

The trailer makes an impression that the game tries super hard to appear awesome with all the violence and ketchup all around. Not sure I like that.

Some stuff seems to resemble Serious Sam 3 (haven't played that one though).

Yeah I don't like the look of the blood, if that makes sense (looks too fake-y?), but otherwise I'm excited for it :dukeaffirmative:
Also, there seems to be much more variety in the levels (including outdoor areas) than Doom 3 and it's generic metal corridor one after another (both Quake 2 and Quake 4 also suffered from this).
PS: The variety is less obvious in the new trailer but there were some cool looking screenshots/concept arts that showed it.

Man, it feels great to see the Revenant getting a taste of his own medicine; a punch to the face.

The Pinky demon looks great (and very pink); the Doom 3 Pinky was okay, but it looks too much like a Werebull from Serious Sam and it doesn't show up as often.

TRIPLE MINIGUN

My only complaints is the electronic remix of At Doom's Gate. While the fatalities look fantastic; I'm afraid it will slow down the game or won't be used much like in Serious Sam 3. Also, like it or not, the new DOOMguy's armor looks a bit like Master Chief, although the top part has some cool demonic feel to it that makes it look like it's from an ultra-violent 90s comic, which is pretty awesome.

I'd say there's quite a bit of resemblance, hence my "pretty cool guy" comment :dukeaffirmative:

Something about that trailer makes the game visually come across as 'cartoony', moreso than I've noticed before. Not that it's a problem per say, just not what I would have expected.

My real take away is just how many execution animations it seemed like there was. All those boot-stomps, punches, and of course the chainsaw, seem like they take control away. :dukeaffirmative:

I feel it looks less like Master Chief, and more like the Quake 3 version of Doomguy's helmet, but more streamlined, like Samus' helmet from Metroid Prime, on top of Gears of War-esque armor.

If anything Master Chief's armor looks like Doomguy's (even the Halo devs said something about getting inspiration from Doom IIRC) but I think it would be better if they at least changed the helmet color to grey, to resemble better the classic Doom while differentiating a little from Halo. As I said on Doomworld though, that's just my nitpicking.

Collectors edition and some pre order bonuses. Looking forward to Doom and SW2. :dukeaffirmative: This is going to be a good year for singleplayer and multiplayer, hopefully!

The collectors edition is really barebones; luckily this means I can skip it and just buy the steelbook on ebay.

Oh, hi Master Chief.

Edit: It's ironic I get downvoted for this post when all the Master Chief comparisons came flooding in a few posts later.

Yeah im really not seeing how it looks like master chief. The helmet looks like a tweaked Q3A doomguy, and he's bulkier than chief and the style of design for the new armor looks completely different.

Yeah he's green, but so was old doomguy.

I think it's mostly because of the armor's paint. Yes, Doomguy came first and he was green, but original Doomguy wore green pants with some brown armor as opposed to Master Chief's green power armor with some black leather thing inside. After seeing the part in the campaign trailer where his legs get tore off, I think the armor would look better if it was a darker shade of green, or almost black/gray like in the cover art. But yes, you're correct.

Aside from the hue of the green, now that I look at it more, it really doesn't look like Master Chief anymore. It looks more "organic", violent, and cool :V

It's hard to say right now if the Doom 4 Doom Guy armor is specifically unique, but it's not much of a leap to say the general style of the game's space armor, which is already heavily featured in the multiplayer alpha, is more than reminiscent of Halo's power armor.

(I'd post my own screenshots taken from the closed alpha for better comparison, but I don't want to incur the wrath of ZeniMax's legal team!)

Of course, the problem here isn't Doom 4 lifting designs from Halo but rather most sci-fi designs these days tending to all look homogeneous for whatever reason.

Yeah there's nothing in that trailer about the actual gameplay that gets me excited. All the execution moves aren't really any better than quicktime events which are almost never a good thing in games. The rest of the "cool" bits of the trailer such as getting the legs ripped off still don't really have anything to do with the gameplay.

By gameplay I'm referring to the gunplay. Is there anything to suggest the gunplay itself is any good? You can dress the gameplay up all you want but if the shooting isn't fun then we're in trouble.

idk, from the e3 trailers the gunplay looked kinda like rage/TNO but with more gibs. At one point he tore down a hellknight with a chaingun and it looked pretty meaty.

I mean a lot of these guys also worked on RAGE, and while I wasn't really a fan of RAGE overall the gunplay was phenomenal, it was just the actual rest of the game that put me off.

That's probably a perspective issue, he's doing the "low-neck, eyes-up" pose.

The trailer is masterfully edited. Hopefully the game will be as good! I'm getting cautiously optimistic. Little things like the shotty is sounding meaty again. The monster designs are updated, but they have changed the colours to a more old-school Doom pallet recently - not sure if that is necessarily a great idea.

Yeah, it would be be amazing if GBX could do something in this vein for Duke.

I wait for the first reviews of how it plays.

And for that my primary source are reviews from certain members here on this site ... they know how a Doom should play.

I also think the fatalities are too much in the trailer. As someone already pointed out: They would have interrupted the gameplay in SS3-BFE. I mean, I had to use it once on the first Gnaar on the rooftop 5 seconds after the game started and then never again. Hopefully they are optional in Doom too.

I think that if you are watching Oh Brother Where Art Thou and the only thing that you take away from it is a moan about the colour grading, that you should give your Netflix sub to someone who can enjoy it.

What? Not even close, the executions use one meele button, QTEs require the player to press a lot of consecutive random buttons in a short time span and if they miss the 5th button or something he loses the entire sequence.
I've seem someone on Doomworld comparing QTEs to some other nonsense like that, I mean really?!
Then Duke 3D had QTEs because you have a might boot button and you can "finish" a trooper agonizing.
QTEs are much worse.

There's a bit of a difference.

Here, you push a button and you essentially watch a mini cutscene; not very old school. And as others have said it breaks up the combat, and not in a good way.
As for finishing the trooper with a quick kick; it takes zero time. Press the button and move on. Besides, did you have to do that very often? No, not really, and even then you should just shoot it again with your weapon from a distance.

If it's optional it shouldn't be much of a problem, however the trailer focuses on it so damn much that you can help but feel it's a core part of the gameplay. Are they trying to show it as some kind of revolutionary new feature? The gameplay mechanic has been around for years and years. Admittedly the animations shown are nice, but I'm guessing it's just a matter of time before you've seen them all then it starts to get repetitive. They should focus their energy on good level design rather than gimmicky Brutal Doom stuff like that.
