Damnit... don't try to upvote while compiling shaders. That was supposed to be an upvote.

At one time DNF was not just trying to be more modern... it was defining modern. But doesn't matter... only a tiny minority ever saw it or gets to see it now... and even fewer who do see it now can really put themselves in the industry at the time the content they get to look at was being made and see what it really represented. Literally doesn't matter though.

DooM matters and I'm happy.

JIRA triaging while performing a full project shader recompile consuming 100% processor bandwidth. The exciting life of development.

I made a snapmap if anyone wants to try a classic style level, I think it's good but I'm not sure anymore after so much testing and knowing where everything is I'm sick of it.

The code is PE46V3CC (Mars Prison Coop)

Can 2 or more ppl give this a shot?

I made a slow-paced coop mission inspired by 40k Space Hulk in terms of mechanics, but it's broken in coop for some reason (my old one won't even fucking load with more than 1 player, host drops out) so i stripped one of the complex backup objectives out

Here's an older vid in SP if you want to see some of it

O/T but I can't login to Zdf now. The new sociopathicassholeblocker script is a little too aggressive and attempts at emailing randi to let her know have failed.

Can you guys please share how well the game runs for you with your specs as well?

I want to buy it but I barely have the minimum specs requirements, but some people on the game's Steam forum claim they can run the game at 60FPS at medium settings with the minimum requirements... Then again there also seem to be many people claiming they can't run the game at all with specs higher than recommended, and that 2GB video cards don't seem to work well with it...

I have i5 4570 (quad core 3,2ghz), 8GB DDR3 and a GTX660 (2gb). Getting a new 200-300€ video card is a big no for me at the moment.

Also, why do all the snapmaps I see here seem to mostly consist of a succession of square rooms that are all the same size? I see bigger rooms as well, of other shapes too. Is it really that limited?

Also the snapmaps I see seem very linear as well. Can you not make an interconnected map like in the original Doom?

Don't know if it matters much, but when I tested the closed beta I had to run on absolutely minimum settings and I was getting somewhere between 15-25 fps ingame if memory serves. I had no framerate counter, that's just a guess. SIlky smooth in the menus, though. I have a 1GB card. Don't actually have the game yet. Not until I upgrade.

My specs:
i7 2600k 3.4GHz
8GB DDR3
EVGA nVidia GTX 460 1GB

I've got 8gb of Ram and a GTX760 with 1.5gb of Ram and the game runs like a dream for me on mostly high settings (60fps in vast majority of situations) - if Rage or Wolfenstein New Order ran ok for you than this should do too.

Not true. The New Order runs just fine for me. DOOM does not. Or at least, the beta didn't. Maybe the full game is different.

I upgraded to Windows 10 and now Doom 4 will hang real hard. Okay yeah, that would be no big deal except... uhh, alt ctrl delete no longer has full priority like it did in Windows 7, so if the game locks up, that's it, I have to restart the PC.

I don't suppose anybody knows a way to fix this???
Like I'm legit scared to run the game for fear I'll have to restart for the 10th fucking time today.

Open Task Manager and choose "Options" then "Always on Top" ?

Than use Ctrl, Alt, Esc to get it to open whilst in-game.

doesn't work. it's like the game takes such high priority that I can't get anything to come up after it locks up. which is insane, I have 16gb of Ram, it can't be taking up everything.

Rage worked perfectly on my pc, but DooM has lots of lag issues, I turned everything down to low and still lag issues, anyways I bought a PS4 so now I just play on a huge projector screen instead. The difference in performance is HUGE. :)

They're weak garbage. One well-placed super shotgun blast would kill all 3 of them, and there's an explosive barrel there just to make it even easier.

Here's my new snapmap if you're looking for one, Deadly Prey: Eye of the Tiger! You're a deadly survivor, kill 'em all before you run out of lives! No puzzles or keys, 13 encounters with deadly prey! (For single player mostly, or two-player)

YRCT5GBF is the code, I usually just search for the title.

This map also features some humor and/or pop culture references in the messages. And much super shotgun action. It was originally going to be a survival map, but I ended up feeling like making pretty much a straightforward combat map with checkpoints and lives. So it's not survival mode, but maybe it's "Survivor" mode. Eye of the tiger, man!

Lost souls are weak for sure, but even skilled DooM Classic player, it still possible they can made your life miserable if you're not carefully when deal with them, especially you're using Rocket Launcher. Just like what happens in the video of Loke's post :)

Have to make extra sure they are all dead before you start with the rockets and using them against Pain Elementals is a really bad idea. I tend to be really cautious with the rocket launcher anyway.

Well, that's sure, but mostly such shit happens on User Wads...as some of Wad authors like put lost souls and other powerful monsters, and when the situation getting hot, mistakes always happens. :)

I rarely blow myself up by rocket launcher on Pain Elementals, I tend keeps long distance...avoid too close with them so I don't think it's bad idea, unless you don't know what you are doing when deal with them. :P

Looks like Certain Affinity is out.

id takes back control of Doom's broken multiplayer on PC

Quote

I asked Marty Stratton, Doom's executive producer and game director about what the future holds, and he was quick to put concerns at rest. "There's certainly no lack of commitment to Doom as a multiplayer game on our side," he says. "We are already working on private matches with custom game settings and expect to include that in a free update this summer."

...

SnapMap will also be getting new features to develop it as a multiplayer environment.

Hopefully that means we'll be able to play with more than 4 players in a SnapMap.

It's a relief that Id takes pride in its finished product and will undergo the necessary measures to improve any glaring flaws or weaknesses, particularly since the game would have been perfect but for the multiplayer. It's the mark of a dedicated publisher to continually improve a game even after the sale has been made.

Unlike some other publishers we know...

I don't know if it's pride or fear of Bethesda's wrath that has kept them going.

They announced they are making Bots for the multiplayer too, awesome.
They shouldn't have given it to Certain Affinity in the first place, they are known for making CoD-style multiplayer and thats exactly what they made, when all Doom needed was the most basic modes like Deathmatch or CTF.
I hope they also just drop the multiplayer DLC, release it for free to appease season pass buyers, and release singleplayer stuff. Won't happen, but still

On the topic of classic doom, I'm working on a coop 40k/Space Hulk mod for GZDoom/Zandronum

It'll be SP if i can figure out how to make a squad of AI dudes you can order around on the automap, but if not it'll just be a 4p coop type thing
