The leaked trailer had better music imo, but the new one has better editing (obviously)

Is anyone else disappointed at how complicated single player ended up being, shown in the last Bethesda stream? I thought they were streamlining it but they've actually made it more complicated with RPG stuff. Now FPS/RPG hybrids can be amazing like System Shock 2 and Deus Ex, but this is DOOM and they kept talking about going back to the classic game, over and over they parroted it, and now you've got skills and weapons to level up to wazoo and a lot of the neat weapons in multiplayer are not in single player at all.

And here we can see another great example of the ingenuity the DOOM community takes in its originality when it comes to approaching mod development.

that's really freakish.

I was really rummaging around the retail store beta for superior beta's cooly's leveldifferences and had found some and thought i'd capture footage of that egg (which is in v1.0, not any beta) hitting the 5 day mark since it qualifies as a "hidden message" for TCRF.

It'd be worth it if you dump the derivative aspects and go the FOSS/Gloome route so there's a lasting "free software alternative" and since it's riffing hotline, having its own original bad programmer art style would be justified

sure, less clickbaity "HotLine Miami In The Brutal DooM Emulator!!!!" attention to spread yourself but at least it's in 92.8% less hot water, and could end up earning its own "bootleg game" charm (as long as you don't shoehorn fucking Tux and OS politics into it)

DISCLAIMER: my 2 personal cents. This is not intended to be a "you must Free Software to survive its the Stallman way which is the only Right Way You must obey me" zealotry post

That's hilarious. They should have left it like that. Have a laugh every time you exit the game. It reminds me of some of the crazy messages John Romero wrote when you went to exit DOOM that weren't planned to be in the final release.

If it counts for much, the only real relation to Hotline Miami that the project will have is in the general gameplay, and the art style, so that's a pretty feasible route to take.
(The map used in 90% of the videos/screenshots I've posted is a recreated Hotline Miami 2 level that was submitted to me, and won't actually be featured in the mod itself. It's being used as a test map because I am a terrible mapper, and I'd like stuff to at least look semi-presentable)

Oh god, associating this with Brutal Doom would be the last thing I'd want to do, regardless of the attention it'd gain.

One really cool thing is that Shane Gunro, Jim Sumwalt, Ben Gokey, Paul MacArthur, and Chris Rhinehart have stuck together for over 22 years. That's kind of unheard of in game development. Here's a partial 2015 Hexen and Heretic team reunion:

Oh here's a disc. There's nothing on it, but here. Why can't they give you a hard copy of the software you buy?

Because there's no widespread adoption of PC Bluray drives...and who says there's nothing on it? There could be 8gb of media to shorten the wait with.

This is their great idea for preventing piracy: have the only thing on the disk just be a Steam installer that then goes and fetches everything from the internet (at least until they decide they're not supporting the game anymore.) Even console games do this and this may be one of them.

Oh, SnapMap requires a broadband internet connection.

What for? Anybody any idea?

Back in 2004-ish, games would either get a multiple CD release or a single DVD release
I'd ask why they can't do that now with DVDs and Blurays, but I feel more people have a well enough internet connection with no data cap than those that have either a DVD or a Bluray.

fuegerstef, the internet connection would be used for downloading and uploading custom content.

It's a community feature and content will be going through central servers. Also, you can share with console crowd. If I remember correctly the video about SnapMap.

Also, this wording looks like Steam activation isn't required for SP, but it probably is.

But it is a rquirement to share it?
I could understand that it is recommended if you want to share your stuff. But it sounds like SnapMap itself requires that connection.

The latest Giant Beastcast mentions that no one will have a Doom review on day one because the publisher isn't sending out copies (12:30 mark).

Because they don't believe the game will get 9's to drive sales, so they're not risking it if the game gets 6/7's to ruin the hype. So... it might be crap.

The first warning sign was when they finally showed it at QuakeCon and they were Nazis about footage of the thing not leaking. I thought it strange that they would be so secretive about showing the game off. The general public got like a 1-second peek at the Cyberdemon and that was it for the year? I think about all those years that went by with no media at all being released for DNF? In the final DNF it came with those screenshots of the game from those years that weren't shared with the public. It's generally a sign something is wrong.

They released several hours worth of footage and let youtubers make some snapmap levels
The game will be fine

They're not confident in the product. Bethesda, like in their E3 and Quakecon conferences, will continue to restrict anything which could potentially damage the game and keep preaching to the choir in an attempt to control the message. The 2014 reveal must have been 100% smoke and mirrors - no wonder they didn't want the public to see it. Fan boys or bust!

Besides DNF, Doom 4 is one of the most troubled projects in the history of games. id started working on it after they cancelled the Darkness way back in 2007. It was formally announced 8 years ago today! Very games that escape development hell unscathed.
