sure, less clickbaity "HotLine Miami In The Brutal DooM Emulator!!!!" attention to spread yourself but at least it's in 92.8% less hot water, and could end up earning its own "bootleg game" charm (as long as you don't shoehorn fucking Tux and OS politics into it)
DISCLAIMER: my 2 personal cents. This is not intended to be a "you must Free Software to survive its the Stallman way which is the only Right Way You must obey me" zealotry post

That's hilarious. They should have left it like that. Have a laugh every time you exit the game. It reminds me of some of the crazy messages John Romero wrote when you went to exit DOOM that weren't planned to be in the final release.

If it counts for much, the only real relation to Hotline Miami that the project will have is in the general gameplay, and the art style, so that's a pretty feasible route to take.
(The map used in 90% of the videos/screenshots I've posted is a recreated Hotline Miami 2 level that was submitted to me, and won't actually be featured in the mod itself. It's being used as a test map because I am a terrible mapper, and I'd like stuff to at least look semi-presentable)

Oh god, associating this with Brutal Doom would be the last thing I'd want to do, regardless of the attention it'd gain.

One really cool thing is that Shane Gunro, Jim Sumwalt, Ben Gokey, Paul MacArthur, and Chris Rhinehart have stuck together for over 22 years. That's kind of unheard of in game development. Here's a partial 2015 Hexen and Heretic team reunion:

Shouldn't make much of a difference though.
#1514 Posted 05 May 2016 - 11:45 PM
Oh here's a disc. There's nothing on it, but here. Why can't they give you a hard copy of the software you buy?

This is their great idea for preventing piracy: have the only thing on the disk just be a Steam installer that then goes and fetches everything from the internet (at least until they decide they're not supporting the game anymore.) Even console games do this and this may be one of them.

What for? Anybody any idea?

Back in 2004-ish, games would either get a multiple CD release or a single DVD release
I'd ask why they can't do that now with DVDs and Blurays, but I feel more people have a well enough internet connection with no data cap than those that have either a DVD or a Bluray.
fuegerstef, the internet connection would be used for downloading and uploading custom content.

It's a community feature and content will be going through central servers. Also, you can share with console crowd. If I remember correctly the video about SnapMap.

Also, this wording looks like Steam activation isn't required for SP, but it probably is.

I could understand that it is recommended if you want to share your stuff. But it sounds like SnapMap itself requires that connection.

They're not confident in the product. Bethesda, like in their E3 and Quakecon conferences, will continue to restrict anything which could potentially damage the game and keep preaching to the choir in an attempt to control the message. The 2014 reveal must have been 100% smoke and mirrors - no wonder they didn't want the public to see it. Fan boys or bust!
Besides DNF, Doom 4 is one of the most troubled projects in the history of games. id started working on it after they cancelled the Darkness way back in 2007. It was formally announced 8 years ago today! Very games that escape development hell unscathed.
