The last screenshot is for you Avatar, so you know why I haven't touched a Sierra game yet :)

Haha I loved that reference. B) Its even in the same black & white too. Aren't you the one who complained about no death in Prey? Seriously you'd probably enjoy being able to die in adventure games.

But adventure games and first person shooters are entirely different things. First person shooters are challenging because you have to survive, and adventure games are fun because you have to solve hard puzzles, not because you have to survive :) But a first person shooter could benefit from puzzles too B) I doubt I'll enjoy dying in adventure games, it'll force me to save every X minutes, and when I actually die, I'll have to pick up everything again, see all cutscenes again with dialog or press the skip button many times, etc... and then those dead ends B) Those aren't fun in any game, except 2D puzzle games with a grid like Supaplex B)

Cut scenes? You haven't seen an old sierra game have you? :) Back in those days we didn't have complex cut scenes or tons of dialogue, just difficult puzzles and things to survive.

See....it was an actual feeling of accomplishment finishing those games. When I finish adventure games today I roll my eyes at how easy, straight forward and short they are.

Those are two extremes, Sierra games and adventure games today. What about Lucasarts games, did you also roll your eyes after finishing Monkey Island? :)
It may be true that you feel a sense of accomplishment after finishing those, though. However, I also get that feeling when a new chapter starts in Monkey Island B)

I'm OK

I don't like the continue system B) Guess I'm lucky I've been a PC user all my life.

Just played some multiprey on my favorite level- The Roadhouse.
I finally won a Multiprey match, probably because it was my server called 3dr ultraprey and I had no ping. :) Usually, I have 150-200 ping and I always lose, but this time it was the other way around. B)

Flatout demo

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Guess racing is not my cup of tea, but the game does have a nice artistic direction though :) Especially in the second screenshot. And the flying of my driver can entertain me (for 5 minutes).

Those are cool screenshots. :) I was going to try Flatout. I have the demo for it, but it wouldn't run on my computer. B)

They aren't nearly as tough as the sierra games, so its much less of an accomplishment. Day of the Tentacle and Fate of Atlantis are probably the most difficult Lucasarts games I've played so far assuming you stay away from hints. I didn't have the internet in those days so when you were stuck....well you WERE stuck. B)

Oddly enough I miss those days. A hint is too easy to obtain these days so its not as much of an accomplishment even if you do manage. :\

I don't agree, I DID feel a feeling of accomplishment after I finished Riven: The Sequel to Myst earlier this year. And I didn't use hints. In fact, I think the feeling of accomplishment is greater now BECAUSE hints are accessible. You feel: "Hell yeah I've been able to resist looking at a walkthrough" B) It's the opposite of what you are saying, I know. :)
But sometimes hints are necessary, or do you know the phone numbers from American services? B) some developers can't think clearly, like Police Quest's developers B) Bunch of patriotists B)

Normally I never get comments when I post screenshots of cool games, but when I post something as mediocre as Flatout I get TWO replies B) and that for an inactive forum B) Thanks for the comments.
Ultra tree 85!, it may help for you to know your computer is currently better than mine, my monitor is broken of my Pentium 4, so the 6600GT and 1024 mb RAM etc is temporarily useless now B)

Talk to Laffer about that too eh? Actually '411' is a number used in all of North America, so here in Canada it was normal. Remember Sierra was an american company making games for the states, their games were simply exported. It was a different time then.

I last played Hexen. :) Now theres a game that feels like an accomplishement.

FEAR Multiplayer...

That 1.07 patch erally makes it more fun... Especially, since the Multiplayer is now freeware, there are more servers online than EVER...
Yesterday, it was like 4-500 servers, and today, it growed with double that amount... Over 900 servers... B) :)

I wonder what the people that bought FEAR for the multiplayer in the last month think now B)

What I played most recently: Monkey Island... stuck again :) But I DID see a three headed monkey B)

Hmm there are Sierra games that are harder than all the Lucasarts games, but there are Sierra games that are actually easier than Monkey Island, like the VGA version of Space Quest 1 (and Phantasmagoria haha, that game is really easy).

And I don't think Day of the Tentacle is the hardest Lucasarts game.. I had more trouble with Monkey Island 2 and India Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (which you mentioned).

But I have to say I think Lucasarts games are better designed - after Loom, their games had no dead ends which is a HUGE advantage and frankly all games should've had to begin with.

I still can't decide what I prefer though of Sierra or Lucasarts.. but I think I lean towards Sierra because of the amount of adventure games they put out and the variety (Lucasarts made mostly funny adventure games, Sierra made all kinds of genres). Oh and Gabriel Knight!

This leads me to the obvious question: which games were released before Loom? :) Just to know what to avoid.

Zak MacKracken and the Alien Mindbenders, Maniac Mansion (Day of the Tentacle is the sequel to this one so you'll have to play it knowing you hehe) and Indiana Jones 3 (referred to as Indiana Jones 3 since it's based on the movie, it's the first Indy adventure game). Loom also has some dead ends but the game is so damn easy that you probably won't encounter them.

UFO: Aftermath

Quite hard game, and complicated too! I like how it's turn based, but the low FOV annoys me.

Just Cause

Terrible game, you're better off avoiding it: terrible controls, gameplay involves a helicopter shooting unavoidable rockets at you. Again a game with wasted potential.
Believe me, GTA is much better.

Then why did you play it if it's that bad?
Just because? ... HAHAHA, get it? :) Sometimes I'm very funny!

I am not forcing you to play it so why are you not playing it?

I played Commander Keen most recently.

Avatar_58 if you read this come on line very quickly to tell me how to do the black border trick in dosbox :)

Really? I found it to be a breeze, albeit a very fun breeze. :)

I finished Full Throttle in only a few hours. B) Damn good game, but man that was short even for an adventure game.

Commander Keen with black borders:

As you can see, the square of a level I have done is perfectly square, without the black borders it would be a rectangle, which isn't right :)

If you ever played console games stuff like this wouldn't matter to you. :) Some TVs have wierd aspects and tiny stretches but really its no big deal. Least not to my eyes.
