It's direct from the website. I'm not sure it's going to be a problem when they will probably be gone in 7 days

Ok, different people, different perception of Duke.

If there were going to be multiple Duke games somewhat simultaneously, I'd actually prefer a mix of games where in some all he does is kick ass and make one-liners, and in others there's deeper stuff going on with a fleshed out universe. It'd be nice to see for example Duke somehow stuck in an alien culture in a different galaxy and he has to defeat the bad guys and also find a way home. Then there could be humour from differences between the societies of the aliens and earth. For example, what if being super-masculine like Duke is actually incredibly lame? Although I'd admit it'd be hard to keep that premise interesting throughout a full sized game without becoming stale and repetitive.

Works for Gordon, can work for Duke (with different tones of the surrounding universe, of course).

Like this, I love this bit of Zero Hour, I could be wrong but I think it's the first time we ever hear Duke say a few sentences together and it works so much better than the goofy DNF acting attempt.
Take note Fresch, Jon needs to grit them teeth, don't let him do his own thing, apparently he did his own thing in DNF and Duke never sounded worse.
Frame rates sucks on this video for what ever reason but the sound is what's important.
Here is another example of a top down game that could inspire Mass Destruction, it's a solid game but nothing on the originals, but note how it switches view in some encounters for dramatic effect. Of course top down or not, a Duke game needs secret areas.
I really hope there is coop but not if someone has to use Bombshell, the only one I could get to play a game like this with would be my brother and neither of us would pick a woman. It would be cool to have the option of a woman (for women) but two dudes kicking ass is always better. How about general Graves? Fighting along side him was probably the best part of DNF.

They could use Captain Dylan.
I'm joking, but I do think that could be hilarious.

I don't think they could use Dylan, I reckon he's Shovelwares boy now. But he would be good as an asshole coop partner in a balls to the wall overhead shooter, definitely better than a pair of tits with a gun.

I'm a big fan and I didn't feel disserviced by any of that. And the alien boobs on the walls thing is so bizarre I don't think it really qualifies as a sexual element, it's more like body comedy weirdness. Like Henenlotter or a more lighthearted Cronenberg. Not saying the boobs on walls thing is one of my favorite things, but I really don't have anything against it, and found it's weirdness to at least be creative, more than what your average FPS level has these days.
And I don't see the problem with an alien queen monster having boobs. That's a fun and memorable design if you ask me (I know nobody asked me ). Though in this topic I'm more here to defend strippers, babes, and that kind of lighthearted element rather than crazy alien sex comedy. But I am fine with crazy alien sex comedy for the record.
Point being, every fan of course has different taste in every category. I'm fine with a game being less nutty than DNF, just pointing out I don't think getting rid of all Duke's pervy vices is a good move character wise, in any tone of Duke game. It's all part of the character.
On this other topic of whether or not having a female co-op character would work, I'm all for that. I think Bombshell has potential to be a fun and cool character. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with the character having big boobs either for example, that's the human body. I find that character from the concept art a lot more fun and interesting than a guy in a swat team outfit.

Not a literal king. Well, a king of kicking alien ass.

I agree, but I think they've already had Jon do some voice work, so let's hope they made him do that. Some of the clips in DNF sounded more like Jon St. John rather than Duke. Especially one of the yells he does in the monster truck.
#439 Posted 20 February 2014 - 02:34 AM
I really dig Jon's voice in every Duke game. In Duke 3D it sounds lower quality and with a digitized distortion to it. In better quality audio even right from Time to Kill he sounds more funny and like the radio guy he is, but I don't think that is such a bad thing for the character. This is the guy who goes "AAAAAHHHHHH!" when he's hurt in Duke 3D, which I always found hilarious (in a good way). He doesn't have to be gritted teeth all the time, even in Duke 3D he has goofy sides to his delivery. I think Jon St. John still delivers a very good Duke performance.
Or how about say John McClane, Willis's humor etc. Eastwood is just one part of the recipe. The guy saying the "K-TIT" bit in Duke 3D didn't sound much like Dirty Harry to me personally, Duke has range I tell ya. Born to be wild.

Again, some sexual humor is okay but not the forced kind Forever employed. Duke 3D has a stripper club that you were free to just ignore entirely as you went through, Forever made it a mandatory fetch quest. I'm saying it should be minor enough that you get the impression the game wouldn't change that much without it, but it can still be there due to it being part of him.

inb4 Gearbox says that they're taking the Duke Nukem series in a new direction and Duke gets killed in the first ten minutes then it all becomes about Dylan Shitbottom.

The main thought was that it shouldn't have been the focal point. Sure, as of late the only thing going for Duke in terms of marketing was his character, thus GBX tried to push it. "It's Duke!". Yeah, sure, but while Duke from Duke3d stood on the shoulders of an awesome game, Duke from DNF was standing behind the ass of ventrilo harassment bullshit.

Nah. That's a completely different situation. Duke never even remarked on it. It's just a fact that the queen has tits.Duke didn't imply he wanted to (sarcastically or not) bone it.

Sorry if I was unclear, I don't so much mind the breasts if they're just part of the creature's anatomy or a human hybrid or something but Duke's liners seem to suggest they intended it to be taken sexually.
