Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction  "All Out Of Gum aka Gearbox foils Interceptor's plan again"

we can wait for Gearbox or some other company to do a better game.

The game would have to be pretty terrible for Gearbox Shovelware to do better.

Suddenly RotT became obscure.

Come on. I heard about ROTT only on 3d realms forums. And it was like after several years of lurking there. The first time I actually saw the game in action was when Interceptor announced the remake.

I wouldn't expect Gearbox to make a new game for a long time because they're too busy milking Borderlands 2 and lowering BL2's item drop rate to something from a shitty and extremely grindy Diablo clone.

Since when did Duke Nukem 1998 get shut down? I thought it just fizzled out. Could any of the original team members clarify?

I did some "artwork" for the project, and yeah that's pretty much what happened. There was an article or two written about it and Gearbox didn't like the attention. They basically reminded us we didn't have permission to use their licence and that we probably never will, so to just treat it like a hobby and keep quiet about it to avoid a C&D. Everyone working on it just kind of stopped after that.

What is it with Duke Nukem and having really anal license control? 3DR and Gearbox are both really restrictive about the IP. I can understand shutting down things like projects that want to profit off of it, but remaking some parts of the old DNF trailers in another engine or making a Duke Nukem skin for a game doesn't harm anyone.

I honestly think they all went kennel mad sat there on the 3DR forums for a decade waiting for that damn game.

Kaiser_Soze did for sure.

Maybe in the sense that they should've had more new content but they had the right idea of keeping consistent with what made the original so entertaining. No sense in trying to make it like Call of Duty or Halo since fans of that will just play THOSE games, anyway.

Knowing DanM somewhat well, he didn't want the game to be like Call of Duty or Halo. He just wanted a consistent polished product.

I really don't understand why it matters that Frederick isn't the mapping superstar he says he is.

It didn't until he overstated his role. You can't just start making shit up and expect not to be called out on it.

Community involvement != your passion for the series.

TerminX and Jonathan Fowler are more passionate than any joe-blow cockstroker who doesn't even post in forums. You can't dispute this fact. How can you be passionate about something and never contribute to it?

I understand that people are upset about Frederick's over exaggerating, but Interceptor released a retail product, which I feel is a better way to judge them than "he said A Thing once that turned out not to be 100% true".

A Thing. My sides are entering orbit. You can't be cereal over here.

Who gives a shit riddled cock if he wasn't active part of community.

I said he wasn't an active member. His profiles prove that. He was not an active member by any means. Why did I say he wasn't an active member? Because he claimed he was. Ultimately I don't really give a fuck about Fresch, but I love busting the dude's balls because he's such an easy target. You can't bullshit your way through this community. I won't allow it. If you're full of shit I'm going to point it out every step of the way. Now kindly step into traffic, you fucking mental midget.

My contentions are:
1: Fred claiming he was an active member. He wasn't. He was tertiary. (I'll even give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. Maybe he just meant he had posted before.)
2: That he was a mapper. Unless you can provide evidence of this, you just sound phony baloney. Why bring it up?

Now fuck off, shitposter.

I laughed that he keeps posting the same lame gif because he has no argument to respond with.

exactly, the movement and physics felt unrefined, the gibbing was weird, and shooting was just to anal, bugs where really odd ones, how anal the aim needed to be with the machine gun, it should of spammed, if you wanted accuracy use the pistols would of actually made using the pistol have a point

just these little things that make or break, it was clearly released way to early, also i don't remember rott being a jump puzzle game, it didnt have a jump button to begin with and some of those puzzles are the most infuriating things ever that totally broke the flow, i just wanted to gib nazis

The best answer I ever got amounted to a shoulder shrug and a parent saying "because we say so."

Not good enough. Posted Image

I always thought it would be fun/interesting to see Duke take on Strogg or Strogg-like enemies. So if DN:MD has a strogg-like badguy cast roster i'm totally for that.

I don't know, it was on every shareware CD and BBS and everything ever back in the day. If you were into games when it was new, you cannot have missed it.

wow. Some people in here have to much hate trapped inside of them. I was just wondering, as I was wondering how you guys felt, as you are the only community I know of (yes, I just started playing Duke 3D in 2010, I am not a 25 year old dude, I just turned 19.).
I liked RoTT. At release it was a messy, bugged shitty game. I regret buying it. After 1.2 it's playable and quite enjoyable. Probably my favourite game of the year. They probably learned that it is not acceptable to release a game without testing it on various machines..

I am looking forward to this game. The only good Duke game I played that was FPS was 3D. The rest were scrollers. My favourite after 3D is a spin-off MP. So I don't mind that it isn't the next AAA Duke game. I am not expecting a 35€ like Shadow Warrior. I am expecting 20-25€. If it costs more than that, they better prove it should be much better than RoTT at release.

The issue isn't about hate DukeNukem64, it's about people coming along and making outlandish claims that are not correct.
Mainly the ones as quoted below.

Active member for more than 10 years with only just over 100 posts?
Where are all these MANY levels and mods?

I really don't care what Schreiber claims. The only thing that's going to show me that Interceptor gets Duke Nukem and can make a good Duke Nukem game is them releasing a good Duke Nukem game.

I agree. This really needs to change, guys. I've said time and time again, I don't care what the hell you do as long as you are not creating a hostile environment... but you guys don't seem to be following that simple rule. This is not fucking 4chan, knock it off and quit shitting on my community.

People who have access to a good fanmade project are people who don't have to settle for Gearbox's disappointing DNF. Even they know it's lack luster, they're threatened by fan projects besting them in quality.

Personally, I think you really need to evaluate your company if your product is so mediocre that you're threatened by what fans do in their spare time. Valve is smart, they take hackers who make superior products out of their assets and hire them.

Yeah the 'change' was definitely noticeable. Almost like stepping out into a warm day from your air-conditioned house.

The annoying thing is it's really only half a dozen people (well, less than 10 I'd say) that are doing it. But they're posting so often it makes it seem like there's lots of people doing it, which is bad on so many levels.

Just like everyone else I enjoy the occasional relevant, tasteful image post. But when it's the same dumb thing over and over, which wasn't even funny in the first place, it just gets old. I really hope this habit dies out before other members start to think it's "normal" and do it themselves.

This type of posting should be contained in specific thread(or, hell, in General Discussion). Well, it was - mostly in The Post Thread, the tendency I didn't like, but at least it was the right thread for it.

Yeah I'm really with him on that. I do my share of sarcasm and dickish behavior but it's generally only towards the completely retarded. The post quality here has completely gone to shit lately - whether it be people with completely dogshit opinions or just straight up dogshit posters. I feel like the good discussions are getting flushed down the shitter as the plebs move in.

Well it's a dangerous cycle and those who post stupid posts towards the stupid only add to the problem.

The thread "died" after TX because there's really nothing to talk about. Sure there were attempts at speculation but we have so little to go on at this stage, and an announcement is so close, that any speculation is pointless.

I think the whole mess originally started when people were expressing their opinions that they wouldn't play the game (regardless of quality) simply because they're not into that kind of genre. People such as myself posted somewhat out of annoyance at the chosen genre, however it's very likely that Interceptor's options were limited due to Gearbox holding the IP, and as long as the game is decent and doesn't do anything to further harm Duke's image than it's better than nothing.

It looks like a Gearbox Duke game is a long ways off.

Sitting in a suite at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, Pitchford ticks off the games the studio is currently working on or involved with:

Quote

There's Furious Four, there's a new Brothers in Arms game, both Homeworld remasters and a new Homeworld title, and two still-to-be-announced games, based on entirely new IP.
