Building a PC, need input on specs "Yea or nay?"

I'll also be switching over my NVIDIA GeForce GT640 into this thing.
I may be kicking a hornet's nest based on my choice of brand, but I wanted to get some input on whether I've made the best choices as far as price-performance goes.

if you're set on an 8350 and plan on taking it to the max, get a higher end board & invest in water-cooling
http://www.amazon.co...84805879&sr=1-3
or you can get an fx8320 (o.c.'ed mine to 4.4ghz without any voltage adjustment - and it's fine on air)
also have at least a good 750w power supply (a bit more than you need, but it's always better to have too much than not enough)
what you've selected is fine (but fx8350's are over-rated imo -hot running power hogs- and you get better bang for your buck with an 8320)

My budget constraint is $500 over a period of 6 months. My discretionary income this month is $300 so I can pay that as a down payment, and then pay $50 each month if necessary.
I don't yet see the necessity to get a higher-end board than the one I selected. Also, I recently picked up a Corsair 600W as I don't plan to overclock.

the one i showed as an option is an 8+2
both boards have Digi VRMs
the board you selected has no VRM protection - which means it won't throttle if you get it too hot

the fx8350 4.0Ghz/4.2 Ghz turbo $199.99
the fx8320 3.5Ghz/4.0Ghz turbo $159.99
get the fx8320, set the turbo to enable in the bios, and save yourself $40
M5A99FX PRO $137.98
Sabertooth 990FX $183.62
apply the $40 saved by getting a different chip towards making up the $45.64 difference between boards

Also the Intel processors are designed in Israel so Mikko Sandt obviously thinks they are superior.

finding a cheap & decent i5 is going to be just a hair more expensive than the AMD
this one is $169.99
http://www.amazon.co...84836209&sr=1-1
you can dig through the rest of the page
http://www.amazon.co...7011&sort=price
you'll also have to o.c. them to get the Ghz you want, but they're pretty stable at extreme clocks

A Z77-D3H is $120 and will provide enough juice to overclock a Sandy Bridge. Granted, I need a push/pull heatsink setup to keep the VRM's cool, but I'm running it at 1.428 which is some crazy shit for that board. For 95% of 2500k's you won't need that voltage at all, I just got a dud.
What video card are you running, Major? EDIT: A 640?! LOL FOOD STAMP VIDEO CARD

Edit: Benchmarks are really important to me. While I'm sure the i5 processors are great overclocked, the FX-8350 is on par with the i7 cores right out of the bat. As I've stated before, I've no desire to overclock. Perhaps it's just a fundamental repulsion to wearing out my CPU faster. You'll have to do more to convince me to go with an i5 that, as far as I can tell, is pricier than it is good.

i wouldn't buy this item, i would try to find a deal like this in the used section of amazon where he's shopping.
their crappy search options and/or lack of selection of intel boards makes it difficult to find what i was looking for
i went with a fx8320 and amd board because i was on a budget. i'm satisfied with what i have. like you i don't need the biggest, baddest rig on the block; i just need something that's going to handle what i throw at it, and stay relevant for the next several years.
where you're going to run into problems is the video card. that's going to be your bottleneck.

Unless you really know why you need more than eight GiB RAM now, 2x4GiB should perform better.
600W will be sufficient unless you plan to upgrade to some completely insane graphics solution.
I bought an M5-A99FX last year and it runs fine. I recommend a decent CPU cooler+fan, and two big case fans.

A 4.5GHz i5 will last you longer than an 8350. It's not unreasonable to expect five years of life out of an overclocked i5. You might get three with the 8350.
Besides, the Sandy Bridge architecture is the easiest CPU to overclock in history. Mine was the ultra rare exception. Honestly, if you set the multiplier to 45, and set the voltage to 1.35v out of the gate, without tweaking it I can almost guarantee Prime95 stability. There's really only two settings you need to mess with out of the gate with Sandy - Multi and voltage. Worst case scenario, you change it to 1.38v.
It's really easy to do with these and you can't blow anything up. I know some people are against overclocking, but Intel ships this processors far below what the silicon is capable of. A full 1.2GHz overclock sounds massive until you realize how downclocked these are from the factory.
In addition to all this, the 2500k is much faster for single threaded workloads stock, as well as gaming. However, the 8350 will start catching up in gaming benchmarks within the next year or so. The next gen consoles have 1.6-1.8GHz 8 core processors and will need eight threads running full tilt. This is where the 8350 shines. That said, a 4.5GHz i5 will absolutely crush it.

The 4350 is a horrible processor. My old Phenom II 965 would kick it's teeth in.
It's best to think of the newer AMD CPU's with their core counts halved, relatively speaking. A 4350 is basically a dual core with really, really advanced multithreading. Advanced enough that AMD can legally call it a four core. In most situations it does not perform like a four core.

if you can afford it, i would suggest getting two of the 8G sticks on your wish list. this will also save you from having to upgrade later (except for buying two more 8G sticks to max out your board)
