iOS 7... "and Apple"
#1 Posted 11 June 2013 - 04:58 AM
In fact, the single new feature I would have been excited about, Air Drop (some kind of easy to use file sharing system), is only available in the latest apple devices. Which means that even though my 3rd generation iPad came out just a few months before the 4th one, it can't use it. This really sucks because file transfer is IMO the Archillies heel with iOS; I usually end up just emailing things to myself.
So what do people think about the future of Apple? They practically invented (or at least made mainstream) the modern smartphone with the first iPhone. But over the past year, they've fallen behind competitors quite a bit, and their profit margin has fallen lately. Now even at the start of trying to get back in the game, they're already just as far behind as ever. And restricting new software features like Siri and Air Drop to the latest devices is bound to piss a lot of people off, including me, as I just barely missed out on both of them (is there a hardware reason not to include them that I don't know of?)

Regarding no Air Drop, I assume that would be a hardware thing. Same reason why Siri wasn't back ported to some devices (even though some people via Jailbreaking managed to get it to work on older devices through some tricks). Was there anything even special about the 3rd Generation iPad anyway?

Edit: I had to stop updating my iPod software a year ago because Steve Jobs' Mickey Mouse software keeps fucking up my playlists so long as I refuse to synchronize iPod with iTunes.

You mean with using physical controller devices for games? I guess that could be useful, although I'm not sure how many people would buy an external controller; I don't know anyone who has one. iOS is more of a casual gaming platform rather than hardcore.

iTunes or iOS 7? I hope iOS 7 is faster, because my 3rd gen iPad is ridiculously slow these days even though the storage space is only half full.

Not many people use a game controller for iOS currently because there are few games that actually have external gamepad support. This Official API would let any developer allow it instead of using external stuff. You're right about it being for casual games but it's cool that they appeal to gamers too

Wouldn't it be ironic if one day you worked for Apple as a programmer.

Can't use iTunes? Wow. Don't even know what to say to that one.
It's totally Steve Jobs' fault your iPod doesn't work because you don't use it as directed. Yeah, I'm glad he died of cancer too.
Also who the fuck uses an iPod? That's shits for eleventeen year olds who aren't allowed to use up Mommy and Daddy's data plan.
If you need to sync between computers, get an Android phone. My LG Optimus G has upgradeable storage, up to 80GB. It auto scans for media files on boot or after you disconnect it from the PC.

In my opinion, iOS7 looks way better than the rest here. Also note the iOS6 device is jailbroken

Good for you.
My girl uses apple faithfully for years, for stuff like this she goes to the Genius Bar at the nearest Apple outlet. Apples Customer service is pretty good. You may have had an irritating experience with one product, but any given product has issues.
