iOS 7...  "and Apple"

Apparently apple has revealed their latest mobile operating system, and the biggest "feature" is that there are basically no new features; most of the changes are purely cosmetic.

In fact, the single new feature I would have been excited about, Air Drop (some kind of easy to use file sharing system), is only available in the latest apple devices. Which means that even though my 3rd generation iPad came out just a few months before the 4th one, it can't use it. This really sucks because file transfer is IMO the Archillies heel with iOS; I usually end up just emailing things to myself.

So what do people think about the future of Apple? They practically invented (or at least made mainstream) the modern smartphone with the first iPhone. But over the past year, they've fallen behind competitors quite a bit, and their profit margin has fallen lately. Now even at the start of trying to get back in the game, they're already just as far behind as ever. And restricting new software features like Siri and Air Drop to the latest devices is bound to piss a lot of people off, including me, as I just barely missed out on both of them (is there a hardware reason not to include them that I don't know of?)

I'll be putting the stuff that I won't use in a folder (assuming I can do so since Newsstand will be able to be put in a folder in iOS7). I have no need to Air Drop or the Radio thingy. If anything, the update looks too white for me but I'll still use it, only my iPad Mini is compatible with iOS7 as well.

Regarding no Air Drop, I assume that would be a hardware thing. Same reason why Siri wasn't back ported to some devices (even though some people via Jailbreaking managed to get it to work on older devices through some tricks). Was there anything even special about the 3rd Generation iPad anyway?

Actually Air Drop is not just a software feature, device should have a special wifi chip to support this feature. About future of Apple, I believe it still will be leading platform for developers for long period of time, because of wide audience that ready to pay for software. New design is horrible and some new features are not so exiting, but they also introduced new cool APIs for developers and I really exited about some of them.

I heard there was a Game Controller API or something which is good because developers don't have to use external APIs anymore

Apple comes up with the shittiest software on the planet. I have iTunes open right now and once again I have no fucking clue how to use it. Fuck Steve Jobs and his fucking rigid shit technology.

Edit: I had to stop updating my iPod software a year ago because Steve Jobs' Mickey Mouse software keeps fucking up my playlists so long as I refuse to synchronize iPod with iTunes.

iTunes isn't that hard to use, but it is pretty much the slowest program ever. Can get pretty frustrating sometimes. Then again, I haven't updated to the latest version which seems to rearrange a lot of things...

You mean with using physical controller devices for games? I guess that could be useful, although I'm not sure how many people would buy an external controller; I don't know anyone who has one. iOS is more of a casual gaming platform rather than hardcore.

The latest version is a lot faster in my experience. I don't particularly like iTunes, but we have a bunch of Apple devices, all of my music is already in an iTunes library, the Plex software I use to stream content to our TVs and Android devices supports sharing an iTunes library, etc.

iTunes or iOS 7? I hope iOS 7 is faster, because my 3rd gen iPad is ridiculously slow these days even though the storage space is only half full.

Not many people use a game controller for iOS currently because there are few games that actually have external gamepad support. This Official API would let any developer allow it instead of using external stuff. You're right about it being for casual games but it's cool that they appeal to gamers too

Screw iTunes. I wrote my own program to manage my music.

Wouldn't it be ironic if one day you worked for Apple as a programmer.

Can't you manage your music with a simple file explorer?

Can't use iTunes? Wow. Don't even know what to say to that one.

It's totally Steve Jobs' fault your iPod doesn't work because you don't use it as directed. Yeah, I'm glad he died of cancer too.

Also who the fuck uses an iPod? That's shits for eleventeen year olds who aren't allowed to use up Mommy and Daddy's data plan.

If you need to sync between computers, get an Android phone. My LG Optimus G has upgradeable storage, up to 80GB. It auto scans for media files on boot or after you disconnect it from the PC.

In my opinion, iOS7 looks way better than the rest here. Also note the iOS6 device is jailbroken

Whether or not it looks better is subjective. I'm more interested in speed and functionality anyway.

Eh. iOS 7 looks too simplistic and abstract. For instance, I like how iOS 6 and earlier has the gears symbol to represent settings; it's logical. Now it's... Well, what is it? A gear within a gear? A tape reel? And why did they turn Game Center into a bunch of blobs? Everything just looks too blobby. I hope they made some other changes besides the aesthetics, because this looks ugly in my opinion.

Yeah I didn't quite get the Game Center blobs...

IOS? Real men know how to use ROM monitor. Ever clear a password using that?

Yeah, decided it will be faster to reset the password than come back the next day with it.

Also, rommon was the only thing available when I had problem with loading ios.

I hate how Cisco tries to rollout SDM. Fuck that shit.

Returned to my apartment today, updated my iPod Touch and it got stuck in something that's known as a "recovery loop" so it ended up wiping everything on the disk. Luckily I've got backups on my computer but seriously, anyone who defends Apple's Mickey Mouse software is a moron. Steve Jobs can burn in hell for all I care.

I had no previous experience with Apple products and was under the impression that the firm manufactures quality products. Now I know better.

Good for you. Posted Image

My girl uses apple faithfully for years, for stuff like this she goes to the Genius Bar at the nearest Apple outlet. Apples Customer service is pretty good. You may have had an irritating experience with one product, but any given product has issues.
