Pointing out that there's a ModDB thing for this and saying "hey, go vote for this if you like it" is cheating?

Trying to vote 50 times is cheating.

It's a fantastic mod and IMO it deserves to win, but cheating is just....well, cheating. And possibly the only thing dumber than this sort of blatant dishonesty is openly discussing it on public web forums. Public web forums that moddb admins also have full access to....

Look, it's not like DNF 2013 went under the radar. In fact, just the opposite. It garnered more fanfare and media attention than practically any other mod I can ever recall, save the likes of Black Mesa. Plenty of gaming magazines and websites picked up on it and gave it copious amounts of praise and acclaim. Tons of people downloaded it, played it, and enjoyed. But even if the mod been dealt some unfair DISadvantage that would somehow affect the voting outcome- which afaik didn't happen at all- I still wouldn't condone any of this shady behavior. Can you imagine anything worse in this situation than being disqualified even when you would have won without having resorted to illegal tactics?

I keep hearing that it blocks you if you vote more than a few times, so it's impossible to cheat anyway.

I'm just saying its not like you can vote a million times, win, and have them turn around and go "hold on you had one too many double votes".

Their protection is prevention, not treatment.

Did those people play the mod?

They watched me play and thought it looked neat.
Afterwards my son harassed the shit out of his mother and I to put a copy of Duke3D on the laptop so he could play it.

My father-in-law also thought it looked neat, but was too complicated for him too play. Anything that requires more than one button is beyond his capability (he has old man shakes and wouldn't be able to control the player)

so they liked what they seen, but technically have not played it. I failed to notice the "Must Have Played This Mod In Order To Vote For It" disclaimer. Sue me.

I wasn't attacking you, I merely thought that it also could be considered "cheating". Of course, no one should be bothered by that.

It's the only mod I played this year and I kind of liked it so I gave it my single vote.

The mod of the year thingy has begun at ModDB. It would be cool if those interested would drop by and vote for this mod. We could put Duke Nukem (and us ;) ) where he belongs!

Click on the image and then on "vote for this mod"

If you're talking about the mod's rank, that really has nothing to do with the contest.

Is there even a way to see the current results of the polling, or are they private currently?

Well, made a news article, take a look if you can as traffic increases the mod position, and we need to be within the first 100 to be even considered.

Well that's kind of pathetic. A news article solely for getting votes ? Is that contest that important? Plus the vote article says "we deserve it because everybody's talked about us and also because of what isn't the mod". When I read that what I think is that another good mod with less exposition from the media would deserve it more because at least that would give it exposition it hasn't had; and for the 2nd point, the competition is for things that have been released, not for "things to come, BUT ONLY COMING IF YOU VOTE FOR US". That last part is probably the worst, threatening people not to update the mod if you don't get enough vote. You're just making yourself look like an asshole here.

pretty much the same tactics the other mod authors are doing. They repeatedly bump their comments to keep it on the front page http://www.moddb.com/mods

my impression as well. somebody has been hanging around Mikko too much and their ego inflation is comparable to the theory of inflation during the big bang http://map.gsfc.nasa...cosmo_infl.html

Yes! Just like any other mod news that is being posted these days. The only difference is that I´m not trying to hide it.

Yeah I´m playing a character here guys, whoever leads the development of such a great mod has to be a very confident, clever and strong person. A man that can predict the future and look at the past and learn and teach from both things. A man that will lead you all people to the light. That´s me!

Seriously now, I´m definetely interested on winning the contest, being the cirscumstances, which put the mod in a quite privileged position. And if you want to play a dirty game, you have to play dirty too. Almost everybody is inflating their mod profiles with fumes and candy. Why I shouldn´t do the same? That news article has more true on it that most of the news other modders are publishing, just like Forge pointed.

Anyway, have you voted already?

I truly believe that Gambini is intelligent enough to know that any possible future updates to the mod would NOT go unappreciated and would be 100% worth the efforts- irregardless of how well the mod fares in moddb's MOTY contest. Anyways, I voted and best of luck- but I can totally see what you're doing with this voting campaign(and I don't blame you one bit!).

I support your position, Gambini. It's literally the only way to win. I made sure to post about it on Facebook (and pushed Yatta to do the front page post, because I despise our CMS) and will continue to tell anyone else who will listen that they should vote for you. ;)

I did the same thing for Duke Theft Auto couple years back, so he has my backing on that one.
Especially the fact that he's saying it out aloud in a parody type fashion.
