I can´t get enough of this screenshot. It looks amazing. I wonder how it would look like with some nice hires textures?

IMO it'd have to be a lot less angular to work with hires textures, it would look weird otherwise.

Levels with terrain just seem to look better in build when you stick to 8-bit art

I concur, things don't look good with hi-res textures unless they're built for hi-res textures.

To Those Who Made This Mod Possible:

Damn, you're good! Next to WG Realms 2, this is one of the best mods I've played for EDuke. I just beat it, and you truly created something akin to the Duke Nukem Forever I longed for. It feels incomplete, but it is nonetheless very awesome. You were inspired in how you rendered elements from the trailers into the mod, and you were also inspired with the level design, gameplay choices, interactivty, and enemy/NPC designs for the game. The motor bike sequence was unbelievably awesome considering that it was programmed with Duke's Build engine, the levels were wonderfully large, the new enemies and weapons were cleverly implemented, and the game music tracks and sounds were appropriately chosen. The donkey riding sequence to the Vectorman music track was also inspired. Clever also when you combined the Rippers from SW with the Pig Cops to be more like the retail DNF's pigs. My only criticism is that it needs more elements from Duke Nukem Forever '98 and '01 concepts, like Dr. Proton, Bombshell, Area 51. The mod could also use some totally new bosses to take the players by surprise, and an appearance of the Rigelatins from Duke II. Even though I want more to be in this mod, I still love it!. It's my birthday month, and I think that this truly inspired mod is the best birthday present I've received so far. Thanks for proving to me that the kinds of games I wanted to play back in the late 90s and early 2000s are being made by devoted and inspired fans like yourself. You guys are what 3D Realms and Gearbox need to really make classic 3DR and Apogee games come back again.

Half the work was figuring out how to make the terrain look good on a large curved scale. I had to restart twice IIRC. Originally I tried going for really smooth sloping sides, but I decided it would look more detailed if the walls could be seen as well and not just the floors, and for that to look good I'd also have to make it more jagged.

Here's a sample of what some smooth slopes might have looked like. I'm mentioning this because IMO smooth terrain could look pretty good with high res textures, although it would have to be good texturing since eduke can't blend textures at sector boundaries like modern games.

Hey guys, don't know if someone already brought this to your attention but I also wanted to include it here as well as PM the OP with this. Basically someone (possibly several people on youtube.) are taking your DNF vids and basically re-recording them either directly on youtube or by downloading the youtube vid and then redoing it in bandicam to put on their own personal channels for page views/subs/etc. I'm putting a post here to let you guys know so you can send a CR to youtube, but also to show my support in a way because I hate people that do this crap. As you guys lose potential subs, views, etc because someone failed to even include ModDB link on their "stolen" video.

Here's the guy's copy of your DNF trailer as well as his youtube channel.

The video :
Youtube channel : http://www.youtube.c...Bfo16ylyvFYVuTw

I apologize if this is the wrong section to do this in but I figured it was a serious matter (at least in my opinion) and felt I needed to do as much as I could about it as soon as I could.

Thanks man. I saw that video when somebody pointed it out and made a comment on it saying him to at least include the moddb link. My message got deleted. I posted again asking him to remove the video and the message god deleted again. His channel is somewhat strange because there´s no way to send him PMs or such, it´s like a ghost channel. Unfortunatelly Youtube is full of shit and navigating through the options is like hell for me because they remove and change everything from its place with the intention of confusing users. If I want to claim copy rights I have to fill a form with lot of personal data that will be posted in the video´s place...

Ahh that sucks. So unless you want your personal data thrown all over the net for everyone to see, you really can't do anything. Can you? ;). That's a bummer! I can't believe they would do something like that. Can't you use like a "team/company name" or will they plaster everything on there including address, etc?

Google has that Facebook like network, so they are constantly trying to force you to include your personal information in your account.

EDIT : Nevermind, seem I missed something...

That's why those assholes just does not afraid about uploads other's videos and keep delete comments when the someone/original author complains, when many of authors tend don't like to fill that claim copyright form, I won't blame youtube but shame on those copycat assholes. ;)

I know you're trying to help but you're only helping that subhuman scumbag who stole the video. Those videos should be ignored, not advertised.

I would fill out a DMCA claim. Goodness knows that so many other companies have no problem doing it for using 2 seconds of their work on any other video.

Uh, his channel's hits are of the Mickey Mouse variety and probably most of those result from him being advertised in this thread.

I'm sorry what?! Did I miss the part where this mod was made by a professional team? Did I also miss the part where those russians guys with 50 views (half of which being from the link in this thread) mattered? Did I also miss the part where, in case they actually mattered, it's free advertising of the mod for a russian community that's generally less inclined to check non-russian sites and videos?

Seriously guys, you are again create problems of non cases. This is nothing, really. In fact, you guys should be happy if someone else not from this community gives attention to your work. He didn't say he created the trailer. He just uploaded it for good. This overprotective behaviour is just the same we see with VEVO, which monopolized the videoclip uploads on Youtube, and destroyed everyone else who dared to touch those stuff. Very sorry and lame policy.

And how will that help if there's no link to the download or even any indication that it's a proper, released mod? It's not the end of the world, but it wouldn't hurt if he'd paste the link.

Yeah, he should have provided some link, but if one of the 150 viewers care, they can easily find that anyway. It's a non story in my opinion.

And TBH as much as I respect Gambini, Mikko, DT and others for making this awesome mod, the thing I really care is the mod itself, not the authors behind it. Probably the guy felt in the same way.

He didn`t even name it properly. And as I said, the only thing I asked him was to add a link to the mod. His reaction to my comment was removing it.

Nah, it sounds like the only thing he cares about is getting views. Otherwise he would have added the link and not have deleted Gambini's post.

I have no idea if that guy just want helps about advertising(intend or not) the DNF 2013, why he just deleted Gambini's comments about point he out to adding the MODDB link(or something) in description?

It's just weird and no sense... I don't think he ever care the mod itself... ;)

I'm replaying the mod again and I can't seem to find one of the secrets in the Morningwood level and one in the Hoover Dam level.
I have found the following secrets:

Spoiler

Does anyone know the location of these elusive secrets?

Are you planning to expand upon this mod in the future, Gambini? I forsee a new version featuring the giant flying TV of Dr. Proton as a boss, Duke wielding a red chainsaw against grey aliens, and an epic chase and showdown with Bombshell in the next version of this mod. You can do it! YOU CAN DO IT!

Or, instead of simply spouting ideas, you can sit down and do all the hard work yourself to get it done.

You can do it! ;)

Your last posts in this thread are just plain ignorant.

You wouldn't of had this mod if it weren't for the few dedicated individuals behind it.

It is an effort from a few guys who have dedicated their time to give others something fun to play for FREE, so sorry if all they want is a little recognition for their efforts.

I am a little sick of some of the ungrateful snobs we get around here now and again. but that is a forum I guess.

Yeah if it was in the trailer or in an old screenshot, then i want to do it. Not sure, though, if anything of that will ever see the light.

The first and last image definitely correlate with what I have in mind. Remember too that Bombshell was seen a lot in in the old 98 trailer always evading Duke and setting traps for him, so there's bound to be a brief fight between the two before she eventually decides to side with him against Proton.

I Remember those PCGamer screenshots, still have the magazine somewhere. Didn't one of the shots had a fire sprite that looked exactly like the one in Duke3D?

A bit off topic, but there's something magic in games with photorealistic textures to me. There's something about that aesthetique that I really like. You know, textures like those in Max Payne, which looked like cropped photos with little processing. It seems like the 2001 version used those extensively...
