Enthusiasm Thread!  "Be Enthusiastic about DNF in here =D"

#481

"I'd say they have every right to show it at their booth at this year's E3 if they wanted to."

Not really. 3DR always gets full approval rights of anything and everything relating to their games, that includes approval rights on all marketing
:

"o We have full approval rights on the product.

o We have full approval rights on all marketing of the product."

Source: http://dukenukem.typepad.com/game_matters/...act_deal_p.html

E3 counts as marketing, wouldn't you say?

"The only reason I could see 3drealms declining Take 2 showing the game off is that it's not finished/not in a presentable state. Both of which I would find particularly troubling."

Or that they don't want anything to do with that show which they consider a farce and don't want their game drowning in the noise surrounding E3. I think it would be a pretty sure bet that DNF will either be unveiled before or after E3, but NOT during it and certainly not AT it.

Also whenever(and wherever) they decide to unveil it, it will be "not finished".

I'd expect it to be really close of being finished, when they unveil it.

What could it mean? For me, it means the moment when 3D Realms comes out of their closet and says "this is DNF, and this is how it looks&plays. You can play this 3 months from now".

They are probably not gonna do the 3 month thing, it is probably a bit too short. But otherwise, yeah that is pretty much what I mean by "unveil" too.

I think that Kaisersoze is right on this one. Very likely scenario. If it is not E3, it should be July unless George has changed his thoughts on six months of hype machine and that is possible as well. By the end of this year is very strong (almost sure) and the biggest question is when they show their hand. They may wait till it is very close to release, (30 to 60 days), if they are worried about all the past bad press on it being vapor ware. Some say all press is good press but the journalists could beat up on it because of the long development cycle and the graphics being on par with what is available today. (I am old, and I remember the first 3D, and as new games came out every year they blew away old ones, that caused great hype and people waiting in line to buy them. This game will look great but will not be a revolution in graphics, only in interaction). Yes I know that the faithful will wait in line, but that is not the point. Kaisersoze is correct.

One thing to add to Kaisersoze, it is possible that Take 2 will have a small private show to a select few. This would start off some strong hype without anyone having screen shots or footage to show and be critiqued. Either way, end of year in time for Christmas buying.

I'm pretty confident 3dr is planning on getting this game done and out this year ie, George's "cutting is shipping" twitter comment. He's also alluded to the fact
he's a fan of 6 month hype periods before a game ships. This would leave us with July if they plan on getting the game out this year.

And we really don't know what kind of deal Take 2 has in place with 3drealms in terms of promotion. I think it's reasonable to believe Take 2 will be responsible for that and I'd say they have every right to show it at their booth at this year's E3 if they wanted to. The only reason I could see 3drealms declining Take 2 showing the game off is that it's not finished/not in a presentable state. Both of which I would find particularly troubling.

He may have more clue than all of us together.

He has experience to things like that, but I don't think he has got any clue on the state of DNF. And even if he had he wouldn't hint about that. Too much of a risk.

Once again, the forums at 3DR' have become pretty dead, as there's nothing interesting to talk about or discuss.

I hope we'll be seeing something new at the E3, or else I'd pretty think myself that things have gotten worse... again.

What was the last last when the things had gotten worse? 2001-2002?

I assume you mean the restart, the first evidence of that I have been able to find is this quote:

Quote

People shouldn't make assumptions about what engine we're using or not using. It would be a mistake at this point. The 1999 shots are indeed...the poo.
- George Broussard, May 8th, 2002.

I might also add these quotes:

Quote

Yes, in hindsight, writing our own engine would have been the way to go, but that wasn't an option once we were so deep into things. We basically stepped back in early 2002, said "This just isn't going to work or be what we want" and spent most of 2002 re-writing things to get us where we needed to be, once and for all. Most of 2003 was spent on content creation and hring new people. Once we were able to make progress, content creation bottlenecks emerged that needed to be dealt with. So, it's been an interesting journey, but one I do not recommend be repeated, by anyone, ever Haha...
- George Broussard, January 7nd, 2004.

Quote

George can you tell me once and for all that you restarted code wise in early 2002 and contentwise late 2002/early 2003 ?
Pretty much had a new renderer by Nov 2002. The content redirection coincided with the tech change and we went forward once we knew things were stable and going to work on the tech end. So accounting for end of year slow down and Xmas vacations, you can assume a pretty much fresh start from 2003 forward.
- George Broussard, June 30th, 2005.

These quotes can be found in the information and quotes thread.

Yes, but not exactly. I meant 2001 trailer, which was followed by the restart/blackout. Releasing the trailer was a dick move. Just like was releasing the 2007 teaser if the game isn't out this year.

I have no enthusiasm left. *sigh*

I hope today when I am walking down the street I just get shot by some lunatic.

I got nothing more to say. I'm leaving this place.

How can I be enthusiastic about that? It just makes me feel sad that people lost their jobs.

I just checked Myspace and Jeremy Soule posted that in his status! Hopefully, he's referring to DNF!

He said that in his twitter too:

Jeremy Soule's Twitter

There will be big news from me soon...12:01 AM Jul 29th from web

There's no way to say he's got something to say 'bout Dnf...

However, there's been quite of a movement about the game, Facebook, Scott Miller... Looks like things haven't been this interesting, ever.
