My hypothesis is that they could not risk to wait for TerminX and his team to finish writing the multiplayer for EDuke32 and copy it, so they had to bite the bullet and issue the fine game as is. Time is money, so ...

Not to mention the people who wont buy it due to lack of MP period. That would have been the biggest draw for a lot of people.

Wait, hold on. I thought MP was part of this? Wasn't that one of the reasons this was even coming out in the first place? Perhaps, it was a good idea I didn't click "Purchase" on Steam.

For network programmers, rent, electric bills, business loans, all that boring stuff.
That would explain the lack of features in the initial release. Consider the possibility that everyone who bought a copy is helping to pay for a programmer to get this stuff sorted out, and the guys at Devolver are looking forward to how to do multiplayer as much as we are . This is just speculation mind you.

- Added more awesome people to credits
- Fixed random in-game crashes
- Fixed some texture glitches
The credits stuff are the expansion developers.

I don't think so. It's really bad business for any company to ride that red-line like that. Then again, if that's what is going on it wouldn't surprise me given the buggy, incomplete job they've put out so far.
Color me cynical asshole brown, I just find this whole thing really silly anymore. Not one developer on recent memory has done Duke Nukem justice. Ironically the last time he did any good for himself was in the hands of 3D Realms when they did the Xbox Live port.

Of course us veteran eduke users are going to see problems with it. But I believe that most non-eduke users who got megaton and are playing duke for the first time in years are more or less happy with it.

Excuse me? I am calm. I question their business practices when they behave so stupidly. Don't act like it's an irrational point of view. Also, way to miss my point. Im not questioning whether they will or not. I'm questioning their stupid business decisions.

Not what i've heard from the few of my friends who decided to pick it up. Crashed, glitches, and "oh, yeah, no multiplayer on launch." It pisses off people who aren't interested in Eduke32 just as well.

Because they took a look at the multiplayer code and realized that it would take forever to make and they probably will never release it. If multiplayer would be so easy to implement, EDuke32 would have it by now. I'd pull a Kaiser Soze if it was released.

It's not a matter of being easy to do. It's a matter that TX doesn't have much time left over after looking after his family. I'm sure if he had a solid few days he could finish it. However it's General Arcade's full time job to do it (I think) so they have much more motivation and opportunity to do it.

It's not minimized when I playing, and the endless crashes happens if your game is saved and loads after some times. It still happens after you restart game and load the savegame. But maybe not happens you start a new game and not save/load for a long time, just maybe...

I highly recommend deactivating this "convenient" feature for this title in your user settings (right-click on library entry --> "Properties").
BTW, what I noticed in the Community Hub:
Since the release of Megaton, several guys out there appear to have turned "creative", releasing repacks of our HRP or music packs as they desire. In general, nothing wrong with that, but usually they do this without even mentioning where they got it from, often they write as if they did everything on their own. I am not sure what I should think of that.

That's kind of true though. I tried downloading the Carribean HRP the other day for my April Fools joke, and to my surprise there was no actual download pack and I had to do it from SVN, according to the wiki. So I did that, and got Life's a Beach + working, but not the actual HRP, it's not clear which folder I'm supposed to put where for it to work properly. The structure seems different from the regular HRP and the DC HRP that I'm used to messing around with so that doesn't help

If there is demand, I can upload these HRPs as well, wouldn't hurt to have them all shown on the HRP website as direct links, anyway. Those HRPs wouldn't come with any "Plus" content however, so no patched maps or con files, just the highres art (if available) and the SC-55 music by MusicallyInspired.
Anyway, I can't imagine that Megaton with HRP can look really good, provided you get it running at all. Personally, I wouldn't even bother when I can have it all by just using the proper port for it, which still is (and will always be) EDuke32.

Isn't map 1 of Caribbean broken without the Plus version? Like one of the doors doesn't open or something?

I would like blame the port itself, not Steam Cloud, because its abnormal quit and confusing the Steam Cloud, ruined the savegames on this run/reverted to the last run one.
And on my playing with Steam games, I never encountered a game has this problem like game crashed and lost the savegame. Maybe some of games had this problem, but mostly happened by the game exe failed do something when crashed.

Don't touch my stuff. All features are "properly" included in the SVN. I am curious, what about how I include the music makes it not "proper"? Just under a year ago, I moved all the highres textures and models into a separate folder structure named "vaca_hrp" to take one step to allow people who want just the "Plus" aspects (map patching, CON fixes, 8-bit fixes, SC-55 music, 8-bit XXX) to not need the OpenGL components. It seems like any view of "improper" placement stems from an inability to identify the purpose of a structure that doesn't match an established one verbatim.
If you follow my simple instructions everything works easily and perfectly. Just last week IRCgoer Squall-Leonhart reported some bugs; I fixed them and all users of Vaca+ and NW+ should have had the changes download automatically through my batch files' detection of SVN clients. That's logistics.
Hosting incomplete zips of my packs does hurt. It strips large amounts of work out to cater to noobs, who would have to do extra work on their own to run the add-on anyway with just a bare DCHRP-like zip. Functionality to make zips on the server side directly from SVN after every commit are on my to-do list; functionality to completely replace my batch files in conjunction with said zip files is on my to-do list for EDuke32.
Honestly, it's disheartening to get emails for support claiming that "SVN is a stupid waste of time", "mystery scripts are a huge security risk", and "where is the download link?" when if people would follow some simple instructions that I have crafted to be easy to read, understand, and follow, there would be no problem. (How hard is it to download something, extract it, and run a file with a specific name? Don't you already have to do that with EDuke32? Once it downloads, find and run a different file and every single thing is taken care of for you to the best of my ability and knowledge.) But that's why I'm a misanthrope. The war wages on.
