Whoah, the music sounds like shit. Those are the most electronic guitars I've heard, even for a SNES chip.

Sorry General Arcade, but the changes you guys made to JFDuke3D are literally some of the worst programming I've seen in my life.

I can assure you that mine is worse. Heheh, just look at my thread about using the FFMPEG library in C++... Ah.... I'm horrible.

Did you do it in a commercial product? Don't think so.

Eh that's a fair point, doesn't mean my programming skills don't suck though.

My Atomic Edition disc stopped working. So I decided to buy this version, and I like it a lot. I like the fact that we have the choice to play all three add ons, and that we can play the original Duke 3D. It's worth $9.99 definitely.

What a heap of shit. This software doesn't even run! I get to fuck with that (presumably) fake setup menu...then BOOM! Crash.

I'm a purist...I have a self built, killer DOS gaming rig. eDuke32 is one of those rare ports that isn't just as good as the original, but better. Why would anyone use this shit?

At least I got some GRP files outta this.

It's offtopic or should I make a new topic? I truly think any given $9.99 are better spend on the donation button at EDuke32 web site.

I have Duke 3D original and HRP, JonoF port works also. I don't have the mission packs but a horde of TCs I have yet time to fully play. WGRealms and AMC for one. Storage size wise I have like 5 gigabites of free duke gaming material.

@ Spirrwell, if you are good enough to know that you lack programming skills, you are good enough also to learn those skills. Posted Image

Unless I do have all of those addons when donating eduke32. :)

---

That's bad I never have those addons and had to buy the megaton edition with buggy, out-dated of modified jfduke3d port. But at least I have 3 addons and it has achievements which I don't mind to doing them at all.

I just failed to see because you have duke3d and HRP with shitload of user maps/TCs so don't need all 3 official addons, for 9.99USD it may not cheap but for those who want the addons, the Megaton edition is good solution.

But yes, it's not the excuse for a rush money making and cause the port is so buggy, endless CTDs after do few load/save the game and programming +texture problems made ruins the whole thing. :P

I think EDuke32 has the same problem as Blender. Most people think: It's free and therefore it can't be good. Posted Image

Eduke has only one problem -> multiplayer
Edit: when it will be finished i would pay 8.99 Euro for removing Megaton from Steam and another 8.99Euro for brining there Eduke.

Multiplayer is definitely coming. I believe in the almighty TerminX! But seriously, it's definitely coming.

No offence to the developers, but eduke has a load of other problems too Posted Image
But this isn't the place to talk about them. General Arcade still relies on this thread for bug reports and what not.

A good thing about Megaton edition is that it's a good excuse the play the original levels again. I forgot how fun they were; they make great use of vertical gameplay, which is refreshing these days.

Edit: Btw how does megaton play those videos on startup? If it's some kind of video playing feature, is it better than the one we currently have in eduke?

If you've opted into the Beta there was a new update today:
- Changed Quick Save/Load approach to more like in original game and also keybinding by default F9/F6
- Added VSync and Max Frame Rate settings to a menu
- Added to achievements "Take No Prisoners" (Kill every enemy on a level) and "Invaders Must Die" (Kill 200 enemies). Thanks to Bumperguard and LeChatMG for ideas.

It uses smpeg. Other than the smpeg library itself, this is the mpeg-related code in Megaton, and just about all you would need to add the format:

Spoiler

In theory it could be implemented using the same definitions functionality as VP8 but there are two issues:
  • It uses SDL, and EDuke32 does not use SDL on Windows. (Though it can if you build it that way, but there are no plans to remove "winlayer". [read: it's been thought about but we're not planning on pulling the trigger, indefinitely])
  • Does MPEG 1 offer any advantages over VP8 in 2013?

So, I emailed Ken Silverman earlier this evening to inquire about the usage of JFDuke3D code and all of the extra code Ken wrote for JFBuild (Polymost, etc) in the Megaton Edition binary.

You know what I found out?

Nobody even asked him if they could use it, they just took it and started selling it. They secured no licensing agreement for commercial usage of the JFDuke3D code, have paid him no royalties for anything Build related for the past decade, and he wasn't even aware that a Megaton Edition existed.

I think I'm gonna write an article about it somewhere and try to get it posted on Slashdot or something. This isn't OK.

It's not like it was okay before. If JonoF was used as the base for XBLA version and they didn't credited you or released the source code, it is not a surprise.

Like I brought up in the other thread, are the developers of the addon packs being paid for their work? Maybe they shouldn't be, but who owns those addons then?

I could only presume they are. But now I can only think that they would do something like that.

Hey TX, you could include some super secret cheat in Eduke that would reveal a recipe to built a bomb, or something severely illegal like that. Just in case they decide to do something funny with Eduke...

Seriously, XBLA, DNF, Reloaded and now Megaton. Is seems that any product involving Duke now and then is made by jerks.

That means nothing for the XBLA version then?

I wouldn't mind having this article at least on duke4.net.

Even Duke3D has this sort of bullshit. Levelord wasn't credited for his levels in Plutonium Pack.

FM: How many times did you swear when you saw that line in the first 3DRealms press release that said something kinda like: "Richard Gray was brought in midway to help main level designer, <Forgot who it was>. Richard Gray only contributed one level to the shareware version." They didn't mention that you did a lot of registered levels, especially the real cool ones did they?

LL: ...it bums me incredibly! I know that they're pissed for me just picking up and leaving. I wasn't completely happy there and I had a great opportunity to join these dudes here, ...shit happens. I will always be indebted to Apogee for getting me started, but I will never forgive them for not giving me credit for my work. You may not know, and this is obviously *my* side of the story, but there's alot of levelord in the Plutonium Pack, too. "Pig Sty", my favorite level, BTW, is all mine except that the hanging jury near the exit was hanging monks when I left. It's got someone else's name on it, though, and my heart is truly broken. "Stacy's XXX" is mostly mine, and "Shop-n-Drop" was a good level when I left, ...don't like it much now, though. The real heartbreak is that I wish I was still at Apogee; it could be a great company. We had a great time making Duke and it's a real shame that the team, a true pantheon it was, is now mostly split up.
http://voretimes.pla...com/inter17.htm

"Two of the places were playing the Plutonium Pack and I was really bummed because some ******* assholio took my name off my levels therein. "Pig Sty", no matter what that rancid bastard says, is 99 and 44/100's percent Levelord... ...only the Hanging Jury sprites at the exit were changed. "Stacy's XXX" is mine and, if the dickweed himself hadn't screwed it up so much, I'd say that "Shop-n-Drop" was mine, too. Ya, let's talk about stealing credit, ****face."

Somebody should tell him that they cut his name entirely out of the Megaton Edition credits.

Are you serious?

I don't want to hear "Oh, oops we forgot it" again. That's something you have to actively remove from the game.

To play devil's advocate, interviewer left out the "Richard Grey (a.k.a. The Levelord) was a significant member of the Duke Nukem 3D team" phrase from 3DR's press release.

I like how DNF was able to maintain proper credit to all contributors better than Megaton Edition.
