Runs like shit on my iPod though :)

EDIT: After investigating the files:

-Duke Nukem 1 will be an in app purchase
-There are multiple levels of emulation to get this game running including http://www.aemula.net/ and http://rxdos.sourceforge.net/

EDIT2: Looks like someone made a booboo at Apple, the game wasn't apparently meant to be out yet and the screenshots don't have the sunglasses on Duke.

GOOD JOB APPLE. Yeah, we're fixing the page now and making it official Tomorrow!

Let us know what you think! Please rate it up! The future of Interceptor depends on the $3.50 we make off this game!

Already rated :)

Although, I'm surprised you were able to sneak a mp3 file past Apple. I always thought their apps only had m4a files in them.

So has anyone played this? How are the controls?

I disagree that it's "aged so well", some of the mechanics like not being able to switch weapons is so old fashioned. And the level design can be a bit confusing and random for what is essentially an action game. The problem is that most new gamers will see this and think it's a simple casual game, then actually play it and find out it's fairly hard, and they don't know where to go, then get frustrated and give the app a low rating.

Controls are spot on. I tried it on an iPad 2 but I still feel like the game is too slow for me, probably would have been better to code the game instead of multilayer emulating.

What are the current plans for an Android version? We have an iPad and an iPhone floating around here but all of my personal devices are Android (of course).

Depends on the reception to the iOS version. Android takes significantly more effort due to all the different devices and resolutions etc. As an Android user myself I'd like it as well, and it's definitely in the cards, but not something we can start working on right away,

Just fired it up on the iPad, and something that struck me right away is that there needs to be an option for resizing the controls. The stick is huge! Occasionally Duke goes in the wrong direction before it decides to go in the direction I pulled it it to, and I think a smaller stick would fix that. The d pad on the other hand could be a touch bigger on the ipad. In fact, it would be cool if the individual buttons on the d pad could be moved around a bit; that way the user could put more emphasis on the sideways buttons rather than the up/down buttons which are used much less frequently.

Like this (proposed option on the right):

Otherwise the controls are pretty good. Thank god the jump button is 'tap anywhere on the screen' rather than having a button.

I'm sure you guys have done everything you can to optimise it, but I'll mention anyway that it's running a bit slow on my iPhone 4. The game itself is playable most of the time (although a tad slow), however the music is pretty obviously affected by the slowness. A lot of new players out there are going to be frustrated by such an obviously minimal graphics game lagging so much and hence give the app a low rating, so I hope you still have a few tricks up your sleeves for the iPhone speed. The iPhone 4 is less than 3 years old so there's still a lot of them out there (plus new ones are still being sold at discount IIRC).

Edit: Also, if possible I think it would be a good idea for the casual players if when you load a saved game, you load from the position where you saved rather than the start of the level.

Trooper, we dont recommend the game iPhone 4. It will run, but it wont be smooth.
This is stated in the first line of the description of the App on the Appstore.

Our Coder Chaoji, shared some great insight into how the game was ported to iOS on his blog, including whats possible and whats not.
You can check it out here - It's pretty good!

A 20 year old game doesn't work properly on an iPhone 4?, that just sounds like poor optimization to me.

Aemula, which our coder created to specifically emulate DOS on iOS devices, is actually the fastest Mobile DOS emulator codebase out there.
In this article he explains why he decided to develop Aemula for ARM devices, and covers why DosBox was too slow.
http://dev.litchie.com/aemula.html

The game is very optimized compared to what we had to work with, and we spent a lot of time increasing performance in every way possible.
As he explains in the Dn2 Article - The Emulation Performance is heavily increased by using Dual Core processing, since the emulation can ultilize multithreading.
The iPhone 4S is the first iPhone to have a Dual Core CPU.
