DNF has always been the same damn game!!!

Look real close at the trailers and you'll see that most of the storyline stayed intact. The only things that changed over time were:

-Textures/graphics (obviously)
-The weapons/enemies
-DUKE'S QUOTES (this is a major thing)
-Some levels were cut, or at least some NPC from levels were cut
-The expansion pack was at one time part of the game, but they changed the story slightly (Proton was to be in DNF, and in the early trailers you can see the Dukeinators).

So, I do not think it is worth remaking. I think DNF could've been successful in 1998, but it would probably not have lived up to DN3D..

EDIT: What I'm trying to say about it being the same damn game... There's no point in remaking the older versions, as there were only some differences between all the different versions, the majority of the game remained the same throughout..... SO, if you didn't like the final release, chances are you would not like the older versions now. I'd say if you wanted to make a, "What DNF should've been like" project, then by all means go for it.

Nope not really. What stayed the same between different versions of the game is quite a few things.
Here are some of the things the actual game is missing:

* female sidekick
* Indiana Jones style exploration of ancient temples
* Chase scene in a highway
* Policemen turning against Duke.
* Enemies with tentacles that rip through human bodies like in the movie ALIEN.
* Giant worm boss in the desert.
* Donkey riding
* Sea vehicle riding
* Terminators
* Dragons
* New weapons like m4,scoped pistol,and riot police shield.

The only 2 things that stayed the same is that there is a Lady Killer hotel/casino,and a mine cart riding scene.

Too bad we´ll never see those cool things :P

@Micky Cheese: Yes. I know how it works. I have used Cube2 in the past. It is a very easy engine for begineers but when you have tried other level editors it´s crap. Just take a look at the best looking maps that come with it. The only thing built with the engine itself is the basic geometry. Everything else is made of models.

You can round cubes, sculpt them and make it look quite cool for, say, huge castles. But try to do things like tables, vehicles, small swing doors....

Yep, and from what we've seen, the mine cart scene was seriously, seriously dumbed down (not unlike everything else in the game). Where in the 2001 trailer you could shoot enemies in other carts, and you'd have to lean from side to side to avoid falling off the track. Even in 1998 you'd have to duck to avoid hitting bars, and you could shoot as well.

Fast forward to 2011; the mine cart ride is for all intents and purposes a cutscene Posted Image

Unity wouldn't be a bad choice, but to get 'pro' features like shadows and water, you need to shell out a shed load of cash for the 'pro' version.

I believe the Terminators to be the Duke robots/clones.

Just use the Unreal Engine or CryEngine? They're free for non-commercial projects.

Unity if perfect if you can fork out 1500$ for the pro license. Worth every penny. Though if not, use UDK. Don't use Cryengine. Its more of a pain to get anything done your way than you think. First Free to Use game engine with terrible DRM.
