It's supposed to be about Shadow Warrior, but apparently it's about some other game trying to impersonate it. Poorly.

It should not be too much of a surprise that a race mini discussion pops up in a Shadow Warrior thread, for obvious reasons. Also Duke4net.

I think the worst part is that this is another case of 'the game would be received better if it had another name, so people won't just compare it unfavourably to the original'

See the Syndicate released last year (I think?) which I enjoyed alot but of course was mauled by most people because of what it was called (although to be fair it was actually a solid shooter with a neat little gameplay gimmick - but calling it Syndicate only hurt it)

Fun fact: Yesterday I asked my chinese ex girlfriend if Lo Wang sounds like an actual chinese name. Then the next day I found out one of my tutors is called Can Wang, so I guess it's in the realm of possibility after all.

It's should be actual Chinese name, just maybe have so much of "Chinese character" combination, and Wang is popular last name in Chinese. As I said in other post, we don't know what 3DR was intended naming(like what character/which one is last name...) about Lo Wang...,I just guessing with some common things in Chinese. :P

SW Redux and D3D Megaton are 66% off on steam for the next 8 hours or so.

Yeah I bought the SW thing for 3.5€, had to get the mission packs at least. (One of the popular SW winports would always crash upon saving so I never got to play the Twin Dragon mission pack.)

Mikko check this: http://forums.duke4....post__p__143062
It links to my post with last fully functional version of SWP (430). It fixes almost all the problems most people are complaining about (saving/loading broken, crashdowns, disfuctional playback of CD music, ...)

Sorry if I ask for too much, but could I ask moderators/admins to make that post sticky? I think it would help many people, because everywhere I go I see disappointed gamers who dont know about it and I think many of them (mainly owners of original dos copy of SW) would save money otherwise if they knew they had other options.

EDIT: Can somebody please send me ProAsms email adress in PM? Thanks for help. I find it very unfortunate that his webpage gives download link to very last version 432 which is swarmed by nasty bugs and glitches, so many newcomers to it quickly condemn it as unreliable port. (Maybe that is why I see people everywhere asking for some alternatives and others discouraging from using SWP) So I would like to contact him about that.

^I have Pro's email but what I'd prefer to do is compare SwpSrc430 with SwpSrc432 and fix any regressions.

That would be quite amazing! Dont send me his email if you dont want to, I just want to fix that download link from his webpage one way or another, it doesnt matter how. I formerly suggested to just replace file from download link with version 430, but this would be much better. Thanks for your effort, anyways. :P This whole mess undeservedly gives SWP infamous reputation.

Do you have SwpSrc430.zip? I have 431 and 432 but not 430.

Alternate question: Does version 4.3.1 have 4.3.2's problems too?

Originally, it was "Made in Taiwan" as a mark of low quality. That was back in the day when you could find something in Walmart that was manufactured on this side of the planet.

It doesn't look like SwpSrc430.zip ever existed. These links are still active:

http://proasm.com/fi...w/SwpSrc427.zip
http://proasm.com/fi...w/SwpSrc431.zip
http://proasm.com/fi...w/SwpSrc432.zip

However, the modification dates between 4.3.0 and 4.3.1 only span 11 days, and the changelog lists three things:

Quote

Updates to v4.3.1
1. Fixed Deselect button not working properly.
2. Tweaked Logo.
3. Aligned Gaming Menu.

Could you check if 4.3.1 is as viable as 4.3.0?

Honestly I havent tried 431 at all, because after I found 430 perfectly working, I was so happy that I stopped my search. I dont have time now to extensively test it today, but I will surely let you know tomorrow. I see that really only small "cosmetic" changes were made between 430 and 431, so it will propably (hopefully) be as reliable/stable as previous version. I read that Changelog too and it made me wondering: it seems that most prominent changes that were made is new CD music playback system, maybe ProAsm didnt test it enough, and it is causing problems with saving/loading (also menu for selecting music doesnt work in it)?
Mainly these things alarmed me:

Quote

Updates to v4.3.2
6. Fixed loading saved game name in log
7. Saved game now saves current track and not redbook[level]
8. Log displays correct loaded saved game
10. Added game save restore options
18. Added If Play CD is selected, saved games now save the actual track number selected.
19. Added When a saved game is loaded and its track number is the same as the current playing track number, the track will just continue and not restart.
20. Added Only track numbers 4 and above can be saved.

I am layman at this things, so maybe I am mistaken.
And again, thanks for giving look at this thing, I appreciete it.

Good news everyone! I tested out 431 and with clear conscience I can say it is bug free! Loading/saving works perfectly (even autosave and loading after exit), music and user map selection menu works, and I didnt encounter any bugs with playing CD music or using missile launcher or entering new levels.
Hendricks, I know that your aim is to only fix bugs of 432, but could it be possible to implement new mouse aiming system from Eduke32 into SWP? That would be amazing. I understand if I am asking for too much.

To Skulldog:
I think you bit misunderstood us, we already knew that 430 was stable, but Hendricks needed 431 to get tested, because he doesnt have source code for 430.

It would be also great if you could add the duke3dw startup window to eduke32.

What does it have that Eduke32's launcher doesn't have? It's been a while since I've run it so I'm legitimately curious.

TX, I have direct question for you: could it possible to implement new modern mouse looking system (all axis working at same time) from Eduke32 into SWP (which is based off very closely from JFSW, which is pretty ancient thing now)? Or is it just too big and drastical change connected with more modern functions that old JFSW engine cant handle without major code overhaul?

BTW when did Eduke32 get its modern mouse look system and was it difficult thing to make then?

To MusicallyInspired:
Just download it from ProAsms webpage and look for yourself, all download links are still intact and fully functional.
In short: it features multiple tabs, in first you setup video and audio, in 2nd additional gaming settings (selectable user MAPs, GRP addons), and others are for multiplayer, about info and startup log
IMO it is too cluttered, as many of these things can be easely done in EDuke32 just by starting game and then setting it up. I prefer EDuke32 startup screen for being simple, but useful.

Which component of the EDuke32 mouse aiming are you referring to specifically? It probably wouldn't be too horribly difficult...

That would be best as a Windows-only front-end.

Shameless BUMP!

Can I ask you, Hendricks, what is current status (or any possible future plans) for this? I am not forcing you to rush things, and I understand that you have as everybody many other more important things to attend to. I am just very curious and enthusiastic.

I was planning to release a debug beta that includes EDuke32's ebacktrace1.dll so that crash logs are automatically generated, but I need to find the cause of said crash logs reporting the wrong line numbers before making a release would be of any use.

I have gone through and fixed a number of compiler warnings in hopes of cleaning things up.
