This game is fucked and won't be released ever it seems. Just last month I posted how optimistic I was it was due to be out and now I just feel all negative about it, its not coming and we know it ;)

I'm pretty sure they're back in blackout mode so I wouldn't worry to much about not hearing about the game. It's coming. No reason to go this far and then can the game. Oh and I think if 3dr or Take2 decided to show DNF at this year's E3, it would destroy everything.

I'm still semi optimistic about April 1st.

So long as you prepare for nothing happening or even a joke news post like last year, you should be fine. Otherwise you might go crazy if either of those happen.

I'm always optimistic about April the 1st. Because it's the PERFECT date for a DNF media. Assuming it is the true media. If I was in George's place and had trailer ready to go right now, I would wait till the April the 1st.

Anyway, that's probably not the case. But I just wanna see the internets on april the 1st with DNF media on hands.

What I was referring to their was the fact that BOTH Scott Miller AND Charlie Wiederhold mention noobs slowing them down. That is all that has ever been publicly stated by anyone as a reason, but it is something that has been stated by BOTH sides and hence can't be dissmissed as bias(Which isn't logical fallacy anyway).

I don't think I ever said something along those lines... and if I did I most certainly would retract it now with the past 3 years behind me to reflect on it. I definitely wouldn't have said it post departure. I could see saying something about not having enough people though. And even that... well... life is complicated.

I don't think that's unwarranted, since in my recollection 3DR admitted* a couple of years back that the state of the game in 2001 was nowhere near conducive to a release in that timeframe.
Hence the "it was only a proof-of-concept demo" excuse.

*I don't have a quote, but it could be Charlie Wiederhold that mentioned this.

I'd be surprised if I ever said that the 2001 trailer was proof of concept stuff. I can really only think of one thing in it that would qualify as that in my opinion. I think George has said that before though, because I think I remember the comment you're talking about, but don't remember where or when.

I can't really summarize something like that, but I'll try my best in a way that hopefully doesn't get me into NDA trouble.

In terms of what I think you guys mean by restart? No... but I personally would argue there hasn't been a restart on DNF since the Quake -> Unreal transition and the development should merely be referred to as gradual evolution. Only when you look back on it can you recognize branches... but while it's happening and you're in the middle of it it's just day to day decisions and changes.

There have been a few big ones, but none of those were restarts either... just decisions that had reasonably large impacts over the course of development. But even the biggest ones we were able to keep working pretty much as we had before and simply weed out over time stuff that was no longer relevant due to the changes while creating and updating stuff to match the new stuff.

But as a team you did know that DNF is nowhere near?

And, if it's possible for you to answer, what was the morale based on the fact that DNF was nowhere near and taking so long? Like was there maybe a frustation sometimes or was it mostly just an everyday work without much emotions about it? And I mean not just you, but the team also.

I bet, Charlie is also pissed off by the DNF taking so long.

Rant, rant, rant!

Unfortunately getting into anymore detail is getting way too close to NDA territory than I'm comfortable with... sorry.

Charlie, Are you allowed to post whats on the NDA?

Thats kind of a dumb question. Even if he was allowed to, the last thing he needs are people bugging him with lists of questions they think he would be allowed to answer, based on what he'd outlined.
