eduke32 crash at level 1 start only in polymer mode

#1

Hello,

I just compiled the last svn, it works great in normal mode but if polymer option is checked, it crashes at level 1 start.
This is the log file:

-Clean up your autoload folder. duke3d_hrp, hrp_update, maphacks.zip are obsolete and overridden, xxx_lite is overrriden by xxx_pack.
-Try the APT repository version for your distro.
-Or compile a debug executable and post the crashlog. (make -j RELEASE=0)
-Buy the full version of Duke from GOG ;)

I am going to post my log file here as well, I got the exact same issue as Le Gluon du Net
It crashes when combining HRP with Polymer on, turning polymer off, it does run.

Glad to see I am not the only person.

Since you're on Windows, use the debug executable instead and post the crash log that will be generated.

Ok, I just run the debug and here is the crashlog.

Mine log file was not good? I received no answer from an admin since I posted it.

Selvator's log showed that the crash apparently happened when Polymer tried to call an OpenGL extension function (bglUseProgramObjectARB to be exact, related to shaders and the like). This is Plagman's area of expertise, but I think he would ask you to post the output of the 'glinfo' command.

Well, then just to be sure, here is my OpenGL information.
I hope it's of any use.

I don't really have any great suggestions; if there had been a shader compilation failure that call should trigger a GL error, definitely not a crash. There's also no indication that such a failure has happened, so I can only assume there's an internal driver error, maybe due to a recent regression. Did it start happening after an EDuke32 update or a driver update?

Well that's kinda hard to tell.
I have used Eduke32 before but that was about a year ago on my old PC.

This is the first time I am playing Eduke32 again on my new PC, so I can't say if it's because of a driver update or Eduke update.

I just compiled again from svn a debug release, the bug is still here: if I check the polymer option, eduke32 crash at level 1 start, with the demo or full game grp version. My eduke32.log doesn't seem to contain lot of debug details, what could to give you more debug details?
My config:

ubuntu 12.04 precise 64 bits
AMD radeon 7850 with catalyst drivers 12.8
intel processeur i5-3570K
8 Go ram

Thanks for your help.

Post your eduke32_or_mapster32.crashlog. (Or is this only produced under Windows?)

Try older versions (r2195 might be a good start). If they are OK then use bisecting to find the version which introduces the crash.

I can not find this files :-/
But I made a gdb report, it contains more details about the crash.

Selvator and I are using a AMD radeon graphic card.

Hope this help.

Today I downgraded my driver to see if it helped with problem but it doesn't unfortunately.
I am now running on 12.6 instead of 12.8 (driver version of vid card)

There is something that caught my attention during testing today, Eduke32 doesn't seem to put to much effort in writing in my Vram.
on Idle my card uses about 160MB, when the game is fully loaded (without polymer but with HRP) it uses: 120MB, that seems awfully low considering I use HRP, is this normal?
When I try to use Polymer with it as well it goes up to 220MB and then it crashes like always.

Now I don't that much about all the technical stuff of OpenGL or Eduke32, but it seems to me that it isn't using my Vram effectively, am I correct or is this normal?
