Interceptor Entertainment is doing a Rise Of The Triad remake.

Yeah I can't say this project has done much wrong. It is ROTT, not the holy grail of intellectual gaming. It was all about fun, insane first person action, explosive and godly weaponry, and a bit of Wolfenstein 3D. The critical nature of the criticism seems to be a bit of misjudgment than actual issues.

I've yet to see where that has actually happened.
Infact they've stated that this is a smaller project multiple times during development so I'm not seeing what this 'hype' is about.

I'm also really baffled by the incessant need to question every single decision. like, why does the bat need a reason to have an eye other than to look cool? why did ANYTHING in a 90s shooter or ANY shooter need a reason beyond looking cool? why does ANY GAME need an actual reason other than spoonfeeding for dumb people why they should think it's cool? That's like trying to say that the original RotT had an incredible and thought provoking story and everything made sense. FLOATING PLATFORMS, JUMP PADS, GUNS THAT FIRE WALLS OF FLAMES, MAGIC BATS, DOG MODE, WOOOAAAAHHH!

jesus christ.

Gotta agree here. As the guy responsible for all ROTT marketing and PR I've never once tried to sell this thing as a ZOMG AAA game. However, in our opinion (and that of most of the interwebs) this is certainly the reboot that ROTT deserves. A modern re-envisioning that keeps everything that made the classic great while updating the visuals and overall flow.

PLUS:

It has a full single player campaign with 5 playable characters just like the original
It has full multiplayer with 13 playable characters (Play as Death Monks omgawrd)
It's going to be on Steam for only $14.99.
It will be completely 100% moddable and you can share mods via the Steam Workshop
Hate Steam? It will be 100% DRM free on GOG.com on the same day
Hate everything about everything except the original ROTT 95? Well, we're putting the original on Steam and you can get it free if you pre-order the new game. (GOG too)
We could have Kickstarted this thing 50 times but we decided to do it the old fashioned way by pulling up our bootstraps and emptying our bank accounts. There is nobody on this team who doesn't believe in ROTT.
There will be DLC. It will be FREE.
There will be more PC graphics options in the launcher than in Crysis. (I've counted)
Did I mention it's 100% moddable? and that I love you guys?

WHAT MORE DO YOU PEOPLE WANT FROM US?!

We've got plenty more to show and tell you as we continue to be completely transparent in our development process with our blogs, podcasts and dev diaries as well as what has hopefully been some VERY transparent marketing and PR from yours truly.

Duke4 and Interceptor go back further than anyone else, so I'm always going to take what you guys say seriously, even when y'all be hatin' :D

You could lick my boots Posted Image

I all honesty, you guys know this is a small community, with some highly talented artist wandering around.
If you upload an image that looks a bit funny expect some queries. If you upload a silly pod cast, expect some sardonic comments.
If/when all those promises (you posted in the same post) are actually delivered, I will be the first to humble myself and say something nice. Until such time ... Posted Image

OH!

And if you're in the Boston, MA area next week you can come play the game at PAX!

We'll be on the floor at the EVGA/DigitalStorm booth running multiplayer off these babies:

Posted Image

I'll be there yelling at people and giving out T-shirts to those who win 5 minute rounds of FFA MP. We'll have three maps in rotation (one outdoor, one indoor and one underground) and all but two weapons are available in the PAX build. Including god mode... which is slightly overpowered in multiplayer... slightly...

More importantly I'm going to insist we do some direct capture footage so people can see the actual game in motion in full HD instead of just quick cuts in trailers and hideous offscreen footage from back at Quake Con.

STAY TUNED.

Yeah PAX always sells out fast but you can always get passes on eBay etc. PAX East and PAX Prime are really fun conventions. And you won't get ridiculed for not being in cosplay. You won't be ridiculed for anything, really. These things are the nerdiest places on Earth. You'll only stick out if you're a tall handsome man in a three piece suit.

How will Multiplayer work though. I would assume that the Steam version would have VAC on it?

I want my 106+ achievements. I'll stick with steam.

It's actually at 111 achievements now.

The multiplayer back end is actually built off RaKnet SO if you log into our system and make a dedicated server you can actually play with anyone who owns the game, Steam, GoG, whatever.

However, Steamworks users can use it just like any other Steamworks game and invite Steam friends and Steamy steam steam.

Being the marketing guy that's about as technical as I get. :D

So the Multiplayer has a login system? Does that involve a key for multiplayer or what because that would defeat the purpose of a DRM Free GoG version.

If you want cross server online play with the rest of the world and people on Steam, etc - I believe some sort of code will probably be necessary and GOG will handle how they're distributed when you purchase the game. The single player can of course be played offline. But if you log in you get worldwide leaderboards and stat tracking etc. You can always LAN offline as well. Because all the cool kids LAN it up. We'll have it on LAN at PAX and we'll be back at Quake Con too. By then the game will be out however so hopefully people will have it in the LAN themselves!

Is GoG's price is the same as Steam version?

Pointless achievements vs DRM free GoG version.
Easy choice for me.

PS: I miss the old days of DRM free achievements with unlockable content, like in Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks, Red Faction 2, Duke Nukem Manhattan Project (unlocks black shirt, powerfull kick and X-3000 gun after beating the game), Perfect Dark, etc.

I remember I acquired every brick in Lego Star Wars (the very first one) and opened a secret Episode 4 level...

Personally, I don't care DRM free or not, and I like Steam, so I feel ask that question is stupid...

Unlockable contents are good but not must needed, when we still have Free DLCs...

I don't see why achievements couldn't be in-game as well. But if what's done is done, then I don't really care. Either way it's still technically DRM free. I could get the achievements and then just use single player offline... Right?

DRM-free is not having any online activation or some other validation bullshit.

I still fail to see the point in which online validation is really bad thing. I don't know much about DRM, but the way I see it, if I buy it from the store and I can use it any way I please that doesn't involve said store, then I'm fine with it. Just my opinion.

Yeah, it's not like people were having problems with it. And it's not like you rely on activation servers availability.

You usually can't use games bought in Steam without Steam.

You should probably read up on the Simcity Fiasco.

Anyways, aside from the achievements joke, I seriously prefer Steam. Its like preferring PS3 or Xbox. Steam is my preferred PC platform of choice for everything I want/need for gaming, in addition to some awesome community features. People scoff at that, but guess what? Community/Social features matters just as much as you guys being on this forum.

Recent SimCity belongs to another DRM dread of always-online. Spore is probably a better example in terms of activation DRMs.

Sim City has been a nightmare,

Me and my dad started a region last week, and when we logged in yesterday it told us our region had been deleted

I hear it's only a problem if you actually buy your games.
