Well i'll be honest, when working with Steam tools you can make as many as you want, but most of them don't make the cut. Then again, steam games have the most achievements ever out of any console games. lol

Furthermore, achievements shouldn't be visible either. Achievements are something that you have done that no one could/have/or should do. It should be a mystery no matter what. I understand why they are visible as its no different than an objective list, else people would put any hard work into keeping the game alive.

That shot was done for a two page spread that ran in the front of Custom PC Magazine back in November. We haven't released it to the public yet, did you steal that from my Twitter profile?! SNEAKY BASTARDS!

If you look closely you can see that the scene actually takes place in Darian's Lair. That part of the level is usually pretty empty but Fred threw a bunch of assets in there and a ton of Triads to kill. I kept telling him I wanted it "Bloodier! More gibs! More stuff on the left! More stuff on the right!" I think I made him go back and take 6-7 shots in all before we finally agreed on this one. He HATED me that week. We almost missed the deadline and the magazine would have gone with a different game for the inside fold. Also, the shot originally had a Firebomb but we changed it to the Excalibat at the last second.
Video game marketing is fun

We'll probably release this shot along with a bunch of others to the press in an upcoming blast. It's definitely one of our favorites so far.

It's very likely we'll announce the release date at PAX where we'll have the game playable on the floor at the EVGA booth. And yes, it's still the first half of 2013 and thankfully not, "when it's done." As I said earlier in the thread we've mainly been moving the date around due to the game and team growing, as well as trying to stay out of the way of competitive PC releases from big publishers.
We've got more screens, dev diaries, podcasts and trailers coming up in the meantime. So stay tuned

The weapons in most of the screen shots have looked quality, but the characters and environment look dreadful.

Thats whats bothering me, none of the assets seem to be effected by lightmass ?
has this been turned off ?

Apart from that the assets aren´t bad, I see lot of small issues, but let´s understand it´s WIP.

I know what you mean, I also think its lacking detail, theres a tone of stuff in the scene, but its just filler, there for the sake of being there, there is no detail.

there is no color variation, no set dressing, and the lighting is beyond atrocious.
There is nothing about this room a junior artist or level designer couldn't knock out in under a week.
If this is what they are using as their showcase room for promotion I would hate to see what the rest of it looks like.

Your comments seem to conflict. You say you've seen other screenshots (and video I imagine) and yet you say you've also not seen what other parts of the game look like? If you don't like the art direction of the project, that's fine, it's your opinion, but you should certainly check out the rest of what we've actually released (this screenshot is as-of-yet still unreleased although I like it personally)
Also of note is that this was put together back in October for a magazine shot that ran in November and that was way before final set dressing, color grading and light pass.
Either way, your criticisms are always welcome.

I meant the parts that haven't been shown

You have a talented weapon artist.
But as for the other art, I stand by original assessment of amateur and boring.

Is there an answer for this ?
From a users point of view, who's eye is this? how did it become infused with this baseball bat, why is it a medieval looking baseball bat?
It just seems tacked on for the sake of looking 'cool' or whatever.

But this:

WTF is that ... seriously, DNF 2001 looked better than this ... this is beyond amateur.
I just cant believe this is the unreal engine.

Fair enough, opinions are opinions

As for the Excalibat: It's a supernatural weapon from a darker realm and yes we pretty much added it because it looks cool. It looks around when you hold it normally and while charging the secondary attack it wobbles around dizzily.
This is Rise of the Triad. Some things are purposefully silly or inexplicable because... IT'S RISE OF THE TRIAD. Also, you'll notice if you look closely that it says "Pleasantville Mugger" on it. Ya know, because copyrights are fun to mess with.
Hopefully we can impress you with some future stuff! I shall not relent! NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER TO DUKE4!

If you go back through this ever longer thread, I think you'll find equal amounts of criticism and praise - which I can certainly appreciate given the very critical nature of this forum.

And Interceptor is no longer a "mod team" but a fully formed company. Sure, we may be new to the professional game dev space and we may work remotely for little or no pay, but we're now comprised of both industry newcomers and veterans alike who love what we're working on and generally work our asses off so we can bring back games we love - that otherwise would never see the light of day.
Seriously, who else would be crazy enough to reboot ROTT?
As always, your comments and criticisms are always welcome, so keep 'em coming!

If they didn't hype this game as a AAAAAA title I would be less critical.
On another note, Its takes a lot to ship a game, something I have never personally done.
I think this is a win for indie development if they get this out of the door, and I wish them the best success with it.
But it wont change my opinion of the quality of the product.

I've yet to see where that has actually happened.
Infact they've stated that this is a smaller project multiple times during development so I'm not seeing what this 'hype' is about.
I'm also really baffled by the incessant need to question every single decision. like, why does the bat need a reason to have an eye other than to look cool? why did ANYTHING in a 90s shooter or ANY shooter need a reason beyond looking cool? why does ANY GAME need an actual reason other than spoonfeeding for dumb people why they should think it's cool? That's like trying to say that the original RotT had an incredible and thought provoking story and everything made sense. FLOATING PLATFORMS, JUMP PADS, GUNS THAT FIRE WALLS OF FLAMES, MAGIC BATS, DOG MODE, WOOOAAAAHHH!
jesus christ.
