Best possible video game combinations?  "What video games could be combined to make the best game ever?"

#1

So I was playing Doom 2 today, slaughtering demons and the like when I thought " What if Skyrim was more like this? Had more hordes of terrible creatures and bizarre dungeons and levels? ". It was then that I realized that Doom II + Skyrim ( Or any other elder scrolls games, really ) would probably make the best RPG in the world :)

What kind of games would you guys like to see combined, to possibly make the best video games ever created?

Duke Nukem Forever + Big Rigs

Bioshock + Dear Esther (=Bioshock without combat except maybe daddies/sisters)

When Morrowind came out I said "hmm...what if they combined this with Fallout?" I distinctly remember saying that when I first saw the sandstorm things in the island's wasteland area. Then Bethesda bought the license and made Fallout 3. Well I thought it sucked. Luckily the former Black Isle devs who contributed to Fallout 2 and their canceled version of Fallout 3 (code-named Van Buren) got their hands on it and made New Vegas.

What I'd love to see is a combination of the Blade Runner adventure game and Fallout 3/New Vegas.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent + the Alien and Marine parts of AvP Classic.

Thief + the Predator and Alien parts of AvP

Good topic idea.

I would love a side scrolling beat em up/shoot em up on the style of Alien vs Predator arcade with Duke, Doom Guy, Quake cunt, and Serious Sam. The game would be long, with branching paths and it would have to use sprites and the enemies would be a mix from all games and the most iconic bosses from each game would be surprisingly enough, the end level bosses.

There would be no pointless special move that wastes health, instead the more damage you do the more your special bar fills up, giving you 4 levels of destruction each with its own unique move. There would be loads of loot style pick ups that allow you to place found abilities into three slots that suit your playing style most, each character would have a choice of dozens of abilities to choose from that can be changed at the end of each stage. Depending on what characters you and friend choose, you can do team special moves that really cause massive damage. There would be slight character customization but nothing so drastic that it would completely change the look of the character for example you might want to play as Caribbean Duke or helmet-less Doom Guy or change the characters clothes colours, no hats. The character sprites and avatars would get increasingly beat up looking depending on how many lives you lose.

The levels would also be themed around the main characters level styles, and the melee combat would be deep yet accessible and include character and environment specific death-moves. Each character would have unique strengths and weaknesses and mock each others mistakes with cheesy one-liners and a context sensitive taunt button. The game would be 4 player with a friendly fire option, and also feature upgradable weaponry on the style of Contra..you die you lose the weapons progress. The enemies would also on occasion turn on each other if from different games and they hit each other.

In classic Double Dragon style after beating the final boss the players would have to tear each other to pieces with bare hands/boots only to be the one true badass and take the throne as the mightiest fucker alive, each with a unique ending. There would be many difficulty levels and the harder the level you play on the longer the game is, for example on easy there would be no showdown between players at the end, and on hard you get to play a final more difficult level.
There would be survival mode as well, and a giant murderfest where you can pick ANY character/enemy/boss from the game and fight againt up to 16 others in a selection of themed arenas, strategy would be involved as other players would have to team up to take down giant bullet sponge bosses before turning on each other.

I can't think of a suitable name for this game so I will just call it "Alien Hangover". A crap name..yes could I think of something better..no.

Ha Ha, glad you like the idea, I really wish I could do stuff like that but I wouldn't even know where to start, I envy guys who can do stuff like that. I can draw and paint and mess with photo-shop but I don't think I have it in me to try to learn how to do that stuff, I'm not that good with computers. But of all games, I love those side scrolling beat em ups, the annoying thing is none of them ever get it right for me, Scott Pilgrim vs the World got close but I don't give a shit about Scott Pilgrim and that universe. This dream game will never happen, if I had the skills I would make it and release it as a torrent like the way Streets of Rage Remake went down, Sega tried to stop it but anyone can play it and its a masterpiece.

The side-scrolling genre still has not been mastered, I always wanted one with Street Fighter like mechanics and a Double Dragon layout with interesting badass characters but it never happened, they always fuck up by making the second player option a woman or a kid or a slow boring character. I mean give people the option to use a woman or a wrestler but make sure there is a Ryu and a Ken so people have the option to both use the most fun character to begin with and then if they want use the other shitty characters.
I'm looking forward to Double Dragon Neon, but deep down I know it will be shit as all games that I really like that are remade in this day and age are.

He did, and he will say it again. Quake Cunt.

I never knew his name, so that's what I always called him when I was a kid.

At some point I really wished that Command & Conquer: Renegade was more like Call of Duty (being generally a C&C fan, Renegade came as a real disappointment, especially later on in the campaign - not talking about the multiplayer part here). I also wouldn't mind if they made Renegade as it was originally planned - a third-person stealth action in the vein of Metal Gear Solid or Hitman.

BTW, Ripemanewone, what's your attitude towards DOOM 2D? It's not exactly similar (to put it mildly) to what you're talking about, but at least it's the classic side-scrolling implementation of Doom.

Have you played Amulets and Armor? It's based on the Doom engine and has quite a neatly balanced first-person action/RPG combination.

They were doing just that. It was called C&C: Tiberium and EA canceled development in 2008.

I wonder what the guys at QuakeOne would think :)
Also, are you from Australia? I've just recently discovered that's a big word over there compared to the US.

Anyways.. I think that another game combination is Wolfenstein (2009) + Spear of Destiny = Better be Wolfenstein 5.

Well, Tiberium wasn't going to be set in the original Command & Conquer time anyway, or was it? I pretty much stopped caring about the universe after EA took over.

Thanks for pointing me towards that DOOM 2D, never heard of that one and it looks pretty cool from what I saw on YouTube, they really did a good job translating DOOM to a platform game. My only complaint would be that the characters are a bit small, it might be better more zoomed in. Still, its cool that people make that kind of stuff. Amulets and Armor looks ok, not sure if i would play it though.

@natsirT95, I'm Irish but that word is used a fair bit over here too I guess, its more of an English thing though. Its a pretty cunty word so I don't use it too much, it makes you sound like a cunt if you do.

BTW, I've heard of another, more recent attempt at making a transition of Doom into a side-scrolling shooter, I think by someone from Finland, but I don't remember if that project was completed or not. As for Amulets and Armor, I'd say it's quite worth playing, as the balance between the action and RPG elements is very well done. You can get the four-level shareware version here; make sure you take version 1.2 (either with or without high quality music), as it has a lot of issues fixed.

Command and Conquer Renegade + Natural Selection and BF2 strategy elements + Mercenaries POD destruction style.

and

Duke Nukem 3D + Duke Nukem Manhattan Project meele abilities (climb, better kick, etc) + DNF 1998/2001 features, scenarios and plot.

I have another one!

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare + Mirrors Edge + Ninja Gaiden Black + all the carnage from Doom + Mercenaries 2 + Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy + Prototype 2, all wrapped up in an intense carnage casserole filled FPS full of destruction! With a soundtrack done by a combination of Metallica + Rammstein + Deadmau5, all in a combination! The licensing would be hell of all hells, but it would make such a cool game.

Anything By Looking Glass studios is basically a rediculously good game mashup already.
Look at System Shock 2, there is FPS, RPG, Survival Horror & Simulation genres mixed.
Nope my ideal game merging was done years ago.

But in the spirit of thread i'll bring something new....
Duke3D &......Dark Souls!!??

Of course I've played Duke Plus, it's one of my favorite mods, but yet it's not the game I described.

AVP 2010 was kinda' like a fighting game and FPS hybrid. It just didn't work because of the stealth kills. Not to mention horrible matchmaking, lag, voice over IP issues, balance, lack of game modes, buggy single player, too many tiny maps for 18 people, only 3 big maps, and no mod tools...

I think I'm going to cry now.

AvP3 was a tremendous pile of shit and anybody who likes it is just plain wrong and should stop gaming altogether (i.e., everybody at AvPGalaxy.net, the worst thing to happen to the fan-base since before that horrible game came out). One of biggest disappointments in the last several years. Worse than Rage. Way waaaay worse than DNF. Thank god they re-released the classic and I was able to salvage something out of their disastrous 2010 incarnation.

I'm still waiting for a Rainbow Six meets AvP/Aliens. Colonial Marines started down that path but somewhere along the way Sega and Gearbox went full console derp.

The NS mod was close but not quite there. I still want xenomorphs, facehuggers, and the queen along with special Marine classes. Have missions to track down colonists, escape and nuke the site from orbit, survive the last stand, etc.. Aliens Online briefly touched on the kinda game I want. Natural Selection boils down to two sides trying to kill the commander or wipe out all the hives. There's elements they nailed like certain aliens wall walk, placing turrets, and the need to communicate to survive.
