....You don't know what an NDA is. An NDA means you don't talk about it, period. Truth, lies, it don't matter. And that is likely the case, since Gearbox isn't talking about it either. Fresch likely signed the NDA not knowing what it was or thinking that legal binding documents aren't serious business. It's obvious he didn't have a lawyer (or at least a good one.)

Ok fair enough.

.....You missed the part where it was rather close to the first estimated release and they still didn't have a programmer. Nonexistent programming is not a 'bug'....

http://www.cinemable...zing-35622.html
I might be wrong but I don't think you can have weapon animations and animated enemies in game without any programming.... also in one of Fresch's blogs there was a picture of someone in the middle of doing programming....

Quote

...all of you are so sure big bad Gearbox Software ruined your perfect game. At least my assumptions are presented as such, not as fact,

What do you mean by "perfect game"... obviously it is a straw man but you kind of said it like it was a fact.

Animations are done by modelers, sure the game relies on programmers for it in other aspects, but it's obvious that stuff was just hacked in there. Their programmer was either not very good, or very lazy.

In the first line I was mocking all of the people insisting that Gearbox ruined the best Duke game ever. Also, I never said anything as if it was fact. There are plenty of ambiguous terms in there like "I bet."

Either that or they use guys who specialize in animations. (obviously know as animators)

On the team page it says they have a coder....
http://dukenukemreloaded.com/team.html
And in the first or second blog there was a picture of a screen full of code and they were using autocomplete to add some more code... I can't find it but I swear I saw it! (It was in the original Flash version of the blog - I'm not sure if the pic got transferred over to the HTML version of his website)

BTW in one of the screenshots there is a Duke king of the hill type icon at the top center of the screen:
http://www.cinemable...75036301915.jpg
The rocket launcher and shotgun also have ammo icons on the lower right. I'm saying that some coding has been done.

Of course they have to at least have a coder... There is a program that executes after all.

Clearly a patten is emerging.
1) One side wants to tell the story , and one side wants to hide it.
2) The one side that wants to hide the story has forced the other side in taking off his blog, his story.

It is already proved if you open your eyes, or is it still covered by the Gearbox hat ? Why else would Gearbox start flying ban hammers at members trying to discuss the topic and delete the topic. If they are honest and nothing to hide, they should not delete the topic in their forums and be banning members who are trying to discuss the topic. And probably should have come out with a sugar coated PR statement to present their side of the story.

Once again, NDAs. And who gives a shit if Gearbox bans people? It's their fucking forums, they can do whatever they want.

Now do you realise sir what a complete arrogant you are. You ask me to prove a point. And when I proved it, you come up with response it's Gearbox's forum, so they are allowed to do whatever they want. Surely trying to go into an intelligent debate with some one who is too arrogantly blind to see his own mistakes that even a blind monkey living under a rock can see 4000 years ago is futile. You sir, please continue.

Yes, I am an adjective. You didn't prove anything. You provided irrelevant and circumstantial evidence.

Well hold the fucking phone! Obviously a coder that has an IDE full of code and adds even more code knows what they are doing.

That image I put up is annoying a few people any of you ladies care to explain why? I am at a loss as to why it would piss someone off, who doesn't work for Gearbox.

I'm a bit reserved about John St Jon being in that pic, he hasn't really done anything to warrant being associated with the others.

I still think it's a pretty funny pic though.

Ah ok, but my reason for putting him in with the "funny" face is because hes after doing the voice work and its not happening, hence the mental head on him, its no attack on the man, I love his voice as much as the next. Thank you for having the testicular foritude for actually explaining yourself. + 1

"I still think it's a pretty funny pic though"

Well I thought so too! Oh well Gearbox were not too fond of it either, tough crowd. Having said that this being a Duke Nukem fan site, I should be - 100 but it seems only a few people didn't get it and the rest did or else they don't care.

HaHa it would not suprise me, that pic did not go down well over there, there was anger involved because they don't want to give the impression that Gearbox are "giving the finger to the fans". Who would suggest such a thing?
@Micky C No I didnt think that, but at least you gave an opinion as to why someone might, also you said you found it funny. But either way I think my joke bombed.

Well, he had more freedom in DNF and intonations he chose perhaps weren't appropriate for the character.

Well yeah, but at the core of it, he did what he thought was best and what he thought was improving upon the character, you can't blame him for that. He's not like the higher ups at gearbox to tend to ignore, lie, and shrug things off *cough mod tools*.

Yes, but he still contributed to the problem despite having a good intent. Of course, if that was the only problem with DNF we wouldn't even have this conversation. And besides, it was GBX's decision to give him freedom.

My only problem with John was that he lauded the game's writing, when it really wasn't that great.

Of course you can, because that's not his decision to make and because he was wrong.

Proper instruction produced better result in the past:

Quote

Jon "Duke" St. John: In 1994 I was approached by a casting director - Lani Minella - a name you may recognize, as she is perhaps the most talented voice actor/director in the industry. Lani and I met while I was working at a radio station in San Diego and she asked my if I would be interested in voice acting for CD-ROM games. Among the first projects she offered me was the role of Duke Nukem. She said that the developer wanted a voice similar to Clint Eastwood's "Dirty Harry", but in a lower pitch. I gave it a shot, and landed the part.

Duke Nukem Forever WAS a finger to the fans.

I don't know too much on Duke Reloaded, but from what I've read here I think the picture is pretty clear that Gearbox are just another greedy bunch of assholes that have no care for the fans, simply what makes their company the most money.

Kudos for any users justifying their actions however, but they already earned a spot in my "Don't Buy Games From" List a long time ago.

I never keep such a list. It puts me in a predicament when a company I dislike has a major paradigm shift and actually starts putting out games that are good, or if the company has had a reputation for previously releasing quality content (like Apogee/3D Realms).

It's possible I will change views if they really make a change, but right now what makes Gearbox any different than EA, or Epic Games, or the guys behind COD ? The sort of companies that create DLC before the game has even been released and just lock it on the disc, so users have to buy what's already there to use it. From what it appears, Gearbox are completely fine with themselves ripping off the fans it supposedly serves, and not to mention treating those fans like utter shit while it's at it. Of course say something truthful that they don't like on their forum and receive a ban. This thread alone sets the douchebag level pretty high for Gearbox,

If they cared about the fans they supposedly want to make happy then they wouldn't have cancelled this project to begin with, so while I still give kudos for those who feel they can justify Gearbox for their pathetic ways, I shall stick with my view. Those who stand with Gearbox are free to continue emptying their wallets and supporting them. I just won't, purely because of the people behind the company. Anyway even if they did create a future game which was actually Duke, and was actually good, it likely won't change my feelings or personal boycott against them because of their past, including the way they've obviously treated users over the whole Duke Reloaded project.

Ubisoft, EA, Obsidian, etc. Happens all the time too. EA use to be good, then turned to shit, then turned back to good. Ubisoft use to be an okay company then for the six years turned out some amazing IP's.
