Ok, I might go back on work on it. My sector based shading skills have improved considerably since I made that map so I can probably pull off some simple shadows. I also just fixed some huge visual bugs in polymost (apparently many of the walls were too long but it didn't show up until recent builds of mapster32). I've got an idea for another SS style area that I can extend the map with, and I might even splice some attempted-then-abandoned maps together if I have the time. Keep your expectations low and you'll be ok, don't expect another Siege Breaker here Posted Image

Don't doubt yourself, I love all your maps :D

Awesome man, SS fan stuff is always great. Your map looks really nice so far too nice open and very SS so keep it up, glad you're working on it again. I'll not keep my expectations too high then I'll be expecting GBA Serious Sam quality. :D

Would something like this be ok in terms of detail? It's a quick attempt to mimmick the corridor of death.

Edit: Never mind I looked up a youtube vid for reference (haven't played it in a while) and it needs work.

I don't care how graphically flashy as long as it has the core SS style gameplay. ^^

That's good to know. Don't worry though, the walls already took 10x better Posted Image

That actually looks pretty good, just needs more shading I guess.

Yeah I think it looks great haha, not to say you couldn't totally blow us away if you wanted to, but as a side project distraction , why invest the time. :D

I know that this is little offtopic, but I see from your screenshots of your upcoming SS styled map, Micky C, (I know that they are from next version of WGR2 that is still being developed) that seed got replaced by some ordinary healing flask, right? May I ask why? I find old WGR2 system of using seeds very original and different, maybe not as much practical but it stands out from other games with boring portable medkits, where you just select them and use them and that is all.

Those seeds always reminded me of the Seeds you could carry around in Unreal to grow Healing fruit

WGRealms 2 overall is evolving to incorporate more RPG elements into the shooting, and the health flask is a bit more suitable for this purpose. When it's released there will have been a lot of changes; some big and in your face, some subtle, and some that won't make a difference unless you invest enough time playing.

This sort of swayed my opinion about the DLC.

Doesn't really look very interesting. Haven't Croteam had any new ideas since 2001?

They went for a totally different kind of shooter* and then turned it into Serious Sam 3. :D

I will get the DLC, though. Jetpack and Lasergun is enough for me. :D

*) Not very creative either as it was said to be a tactical military shooter in the style of ... guess what ... COD.

I thought the new trailer looked cool, and I'll be getting the DLC to support Croteam. We don't have many badass FPS heroes left so we gotta support the ones we have. :D

All Serious Sam games and DLC are 75% off at the moment. If you haven't gotten Legend of the Beast or Jewel of the Nile yet, they're currently going for $1.24 and $2.49 respectively, which is an absolute bargain.

Serious Sam 3 is only $6! (85% off). This is super cheap and as cheap as it gets. If you ever had the slightest consideration of getting this game, now is absolutely the time, it probably won't be this cheap for years.

The offer expires in 10 hours.

Buy it and you can play with Micky and me (even though I suck at it).

You both suck looking at the leader board. :)

But agreed, this is the best time to get this game.
You are a dumb shit if you don't.

How do you check the leaderboards without going into the game?

And at the time of this posting, Serious Sam 3 is no. 37 in the 100 top sellers list Posted Image

It must be noted that Lunick has finished the game and I am only about 5 levels in. (not sure how many there are in total)
Hence why he two up on me.

I'm using this as the Serious Sam thread but a new(?) game called Serious Sam Revolution is coming to Steam. Basically, it updates the Classic versions of the First and Second Encounter for proper use on proper modern systems and a bunch of other things that I don't think I can really summarise at the moment, here is a link http://forums.seriou...ead.php?t=63416

Could be interesting, I tired playing the first encounter but it hurt my eyes due to the fact I couldn't select 1920x1080 (unless I missed something in the config)

I wish Croteam would stop re-releasing TFE and TSE every couple of years. First the HD versions and now this? :P

They say a new small campaign will be added. IIRC there's also a console-only episode (maybe even a separate game but based on TFE/TSE) with a Roman setting, I wouldn't mind that being available to the PC audience too.

There's also a small campaign included with some Collector's Edition, but IIRC it's a fan-made thing (?).

I could get the classic serious sam games to run in 16:9 by editing the .ini file for the resolution and FOV. However, I guess it's nice that they are making it so one can do that from the menus more easily. I still wouldn't want to play those versions when I have the HD editions though. For me those games just don't have the nostalgic look that other classic games have. More like the same thing but with almost no shading... comparatively speaking.

Additionally stuff like auto-detection of system specs shouldn't matter too much as I could even max out the settings on my old intel integrated graphics based laptop.

I've heard that next year they're going to re-release Test 1 and Test 2 HD.

Unfortunately the HD games are much easier than the originals :P

Hmm, TBH I didn't play the original games when they came out; I'm not even sure I had heard about them back then, even. In fact, I played Will Rock before I got acquainted with Serious Sam.

But anyway, the originals look very good IMO - or maybe it's just that I generally like the Egyptian theme. I don't think I feel particularly nostalgic about the time period Serious Sam came out - at least, as far as FPS games are concerned (I played Starcraft extensively back then, and also some Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior and Doom, heh :P). The HD versions are simply beautiful, but I'm really undecided whether I like them more than the originals or not.

If you want to get Serious Sam 3 somewhat cheap, it is now running in an Indie bundle for a week: http://www.indieroyale.com/
