But at least bulletstorm did something different on the gameplay aspect... despite it being another linear not-so-good shooter.

I don't know, I thought Bulletstorm was a terribly fun game. Me and my roommate played it nonestop until we beat it. Never got bored either. I really don't understand why people didnt like it as much as we did, especially since the more generic shooters get more praise.

It's called, you know, subjective opinion.

I like the game, but I got bored several times due to the stupid endless speech of the characters (the only I liked was Sarrano) and the horrible linearity of the game, which made me feel as if I was doing the same again and again despite the variety of enviroments and killings. It was monotonous for me.
Also, remembering the times with Painkiller is not favorable to Bulletstorm; the previous work of People Can Fly was probably what didn't allow me to fully enjoy the game. After that masterpiece, things like Bulletstorm are disappointing

Well Painkiller also was derivative of Serious Sam, which is ever so relativity to this threat. That reminds me. I have all the painkiller games and only played the first game way back in the day. I need to finally try these out.

More like both were derivates of Doom II.

I found this fan made video which is kind of cool:

Also, I can't finish serious sam 2, I really can't. Usually when I buy a game, I force myself to finish it, but the gameplay is just so boring, repetitive and frustrating. I might have been able to suck it up and finish it if the save system wasn't so messed up, forcing me to repeat sections I've already done. When you pass an incredibly boring and frustrating fight, then are forced to do it again from absolutely no fault of your own for about the fifth time in the same playthrough, it's time to call it quits.

SS and Duke Nukem have very different gameplay, level design, just everything is different.
I wouldn't compare those games at all.

I also think that Duke Nukem 3D has always had a pretty complex gameplay, better than gameplay of games like Call of Duty.
The level design is well-thought-out, other games like SS and CoD were just designed for visuals and simple gameplay.

Whoa, you did not just compare SS to CoD did you?

In SS, you need to be aware of your surroundings, analyse how many enemies there are, what kind of enemies they are and how far away they are, before choosing the appropriate weapon to deal with them. Then you also need to take into account how much ammo you have left in each weapon, and you also need to change your tactics vastly depending on how much health you have left. The strategy quite deep in that you can easily die several times before figuring out which weapon works best with what and what the enemies' weaknesses are when playing for the first time or playing on a harder than usual difficulty.

In CoD, it's more like shoot these guys with generic weapon X then hide behind box and repeat.

Serious Sam is kind of like Smash Tv in first person, in other news Smash Tv was awesome. SS definately has strategy involved if you play with only three lives, you have to spend a lot of time gathering resources like ammo and weapons and extra lives, you can't just run straight at everything with your finger held on the trigger, its all about ammo control and positioning and splitting up groups into managable sizes and making them kill each other. A lot of the time however it is backpedaling and firing and laughing at the absurdity of the amount of things trying to kill you at once.

I just saw this at joystiq.. apparently Serious Sam 3:BFE is coming to the Mac. The engine that it runs on "Serious Engine 3" runs very well in WINE (like 60fps+ at full detail) although I'm glad they are finally getting around to officially supporting the Mac. They have a faux apple style serious sam 3: BFE commercial out right now.

Source

BTW I really like Smash TV and another game that was kind of like it TOTAL CARNAGE! I play those in MAME from time to time... gamepads with dual sticks are actually suited to dual stick games like those so that's what I use there.

On the other hand it seems to be getting more and more official games support.. more than a certain other OS (Linux).

It looks like there'll be some new DLC out on june 12th. And it sounds pretty damn kick-ass, check it out:

Quote

Croteam and Digital Devolver have announced DLC for Serious Sam 3: BFE! The DLC is called The Last Days, and features Serious Sam fighting through Paris.

This DLC takes place during the fall of Earth to Mental's forces. In it, Serious Sam must fight through Paris in order to destroy a beacon device on the Eiffel Tower that would allow Mental's most powerful warship to come to Earth and easily clear out the last bits of resistance on Earth with a few shots. You'll be able to visit famous landmarks throughout Paris and purge them of the alien invaders that have occupied them.

For co-op fans, The Last Days also includes a special, co-op only campaign! In it, the rest of Alpha Team must traverse through the burned out husk of Paris in order to recover an ancient and advanced Sirian translating device on one of Mental's ships that has landed in Paris. Along the way, they'll go through Paris' poorer neighborhoods while facing off Mental's forces, who are determined to stop them at all costs.

The DLC features:

*5 levels that can be played in both single player and co-op, plus an exclusive 3 levels for co-op and one new Survival level!

*The Flamethrower returns! Burn your enemies down with a sleek and ultra-modern flamethrower that can toast even the strongest enemies in a few seconds!

*Use the new XPMN43 Anti-Aircraft Rocket Launcher against the Technopolip! Those jerks won't be bothering you anymore after you've fed them a few heat-seeking, anti-aircraft rockets!

*New enemies! The Cloned Sniper uses the RAPTOR Sniper Rifle to hurt Sam from afar, while the Flamethrower Scrapjack can toast Sam in a matter of seconds indoors!

*Classic enemies return! The Zumb'uls and Zorgs return, along with a new Zorg variant; the Flying Zorg! This new Zorg is equipped with a jetpack and will try to gun Sam down while flying around.

*Usable enemy weapons! Need a rocket launcher? Rip off a Scrapjack's arm with a melee attack, then use it's arm against enemies!

*The Laser Gun and Sniper Rifle are now found normally, instead of being hidden in secrets! Melt enemies with a constant steam of green lasers, or snipe them from before they can even shoot at you!

*Hot hot hot optional skins for the Serious Sam 3 and HD versions of the Harpy!
The new DLC is expected to be released on June 12th, 2012. No price has been announced yet.

Yeah, we'll definitely have to take on that coop-only campaign :) makes me wonder what's so different about it compared to the regular singleplayer campaign that's also being included.

I hope Paris will be more interesting than Cairo or whatever the fuck excuse for a city it was supposed to be in SS3. :/

It should be a lot better if sam gets to visit several recognisable (and hopefully reasonably reconstructed) landmarks, kind of like Duke it Out in DC except it's Sam and Paris and not Duke and Washington. Personally I'm extra excited because I've been to Paris a few times and visited several of the places that will probably be in the DLC, and I can't wait to kick ass in them. I hope we can go inside the Louvre, that place is very large and open and would make a great place to fight the aliens.

Meh, I disagree. I have Serious Sam, and it's just a straight run n' gun game. Run, kill stuff, run some more, kill stuff some more. Repeat until the end of the game. The bosses are awesome, mind you.

Exactly, Serious Sam is at its core a run and gun game. Cod is a hide and gun game.

Btw I don't mind if you downvote me, but since you actually bothered to reply as well, could you actually give a counter argument? All seemed to say is that you shoot things in both games.

Apparently shooting in the streets of Paris is the new vogue (BF3, MW3, SS3).

Derp, it was an April Fool's joke:

Some weird humor Croteam has but I guess we should've seen that coming.

Serious Sam 3 is now available for mac, and it's on sale (66% off) for both mac and PC! There's no excuse not to get it if you don't have it already. So that means the game costs $13.60, and the delux upgrade costs $3.40

It's on sale until May 1st.

Also I didn't even realise the Scope on the Devastator was a Deluxe only option :L
