MIDI music won't play in 32-bit XP

Here's an unusual problem. I'm running Windows XP, 32-bit, and I can't get eduke32 to play MIDI music. I've tried both the revision up for download on the eduke32 home page and the most modern revision. I've tried tweaking just about every setting in the configuration menus. I'm not loading any mods, texture packs, model packs, music packs or anything else custom. I've checked my system volume controls - everything is on. I'm using the default MIDI playback device (Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth). MIDI music still works in every other game that I've tested it in. What could possibly be going wrong?

This is a known bug with XP. Your MIDI volume in Windows (not EDuke32) was muted, because you used Windows Media Player to play a MIDI at some point. Just go to your sound control panel and adjust the volume.

Yes, DeeperThought is 100% correct on this.
It does frustrate me at times and I wounder if something can be done about this eduke32 side, no other games do this.

Surely eduke can control the sound volume of the system right?
