help installing eduke32 on asus eee pc (xandros)

I've spent over an hour trying to figure out how to get duke on this thing in various ways, such as installing eduke32, dosbox, and wine. Now I've hardly ever used this computer let alone trying to install programs on it, but I've looked at a whole lot of guides and at one step or another things just go pear shaped.

So is there any easy way that anyone can help me with to install eduke32 on an asus eee pc running xandros?

Edit: Nooooo! I've become the very thing I despise the most; a person who posts a new thread in the wrong section! Posted Image
(mods: feel free to move this to the 'help me' section)

For Xandros you should be able to build it without problems.

Debian/Ubuntu instructions should mostly apply to Xandros, so try following this guide.

After jumping through a lot of hurtles, there still seems to be something going wrong.

When I tried installing the prerequisites, a lot of lines appeared in the terminal saying things like "W: couldn't stat source package list..." and at the bottom it said "E: couldn't find package build-essential"
I'm not sure if any of that was significant so I went ahead and tried to make the thing anyway and it said

/bin/sh: pkg-config: command not found
make: /usr/bin/sdl-config: command not found
(lots of blue text)
make: /usr/bin/sdl-config: command not found
/bin/sh: gcc: command not found
Failed building obj/game.o from source/game.c!
make: *** [obj/game.o] Error 1

Am I missing something?

Read: http://forum.eeeuser...ic.php?id=17678

You're missing some packages for your OS required to compile source code.

Also, Wikipedia says Xandros was discontinued four years ago. You should consider something newer like Debian or Ubuntu, then you can get precompiled packages following the directions at http://wiki.eduke32..../APT_repository
For the early EEE, there are a few distros:
Aurora: http://www.eeebuntu.org/project
EasyPeasy: http://edge.geteasypeasy.com/about/
Leeenux: http://www.leeenux-linux.com/

Thanks Brent, I'll have a look at that link. But if I'm going to install a new OS on the eee, I think I'll stick to windows :)
