Duke Nukem 3D Dosbox Launcher - Frontend

#121

While I was looking into D-Fend Reloaded's Graphics Setup. I've noticed that 0x0 option is in the "Full Resolution" Tab. So Window Resolution doesn't have it, so it doesn't need it.

Would it be better if the Launchers be implemented w/ options that mirrors D-Fend Reloaded's?

Make a list of settings for each.

Here's a list of proposed options.
  • CPU: Could "Normal" & "Simple" be added or leave it as it is?
  • Memory: Following are from D-Fend: Use XMS, Use EMS, Use UMB, Use Loadfix memory (xx KB), Use DOS32A (are these needed?).
  • Graphics: Window Resolution=Original-through-1920x1080, Full Resolution= just like Window Resolution but add a "0x0" option in there. Is Frameskip needed?
Leave the rest of the settings (CPU, Memory, Graphics, Keyboard, Mouse, Sound, Dosbox 74.1 for Blood) from the current version of the DOS Build Launchers as is.

Theoretically could there be an Ultimate DOSBox Build launcher that has all the Build games in there?

1.CPU: Could "Normal" & "Simple" be added or leave it as it is?
I will add but these settings only slows down the game.

2.Memory: Following are from D-Fend: Use XMS, Use EMS, Use UMB, Use Loadfix memory (xx KB), Use DOS32A (are these needed?).
Not really needed. EMS,XMS,UMB are all set to true. DOS32A not needed.

3.Graphics: Window Resolution=Original-through-1920x1080, Full Resolution= just like Window Resolution but add a "0x0" option in there. Is Frameskip needed?
So just remove 0X0, and Desktop from Window Resolution?

Put the "Desktop" & "Original" options on both Window & Full. Move the "0x0" from the Window Resolution to the Full Resolution settings.

Working on that now. The ADrive links should work now. Mega links will be up in about an hour.

Encountered a problem w/ 2.5 Skulldog. After I install the CD version of Atomic Ed of Duke 3D. The Duke 3D game launches then I exit the game, then it closes the launcher, then I open the launcher back up and I pop in either the Duke DC, NWinter, or Caribbean CD and I get this Microsoft .NET Framework error. Here's the pic and copied the error message below. The closing the launcher after game installation needs to be fixed I think.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
	<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I also got an idea for users who don't have Duke 3D yet but have Duke 1 & 2. Can you include the "Install Duke 1 & 2" from either GOG.com or Steam version (also the same thing w/ WWII GI & NAM) in the "Start Game" tab from a fresh extraction of the launcher .zip?

This is a great program. Thanks.

However, maybe it would be better to include slightly different default keys? You chose a setup very similar to EDuke32 standard (WASD with mouselook) but this creates certain conflicts. For example, the Spacebar is mapped to both jump and open. In Shadow Warrior it's even worse since there's an item that activates with the S key and whenever you push it to move backwards you activate the item as well.

Will these bug fixes apply to all launchers? Also whenever I click to install GOG or CD. Next the game starts, then I quit the game and the launcher closes. This is normal huh? This happens to all launchers I think.

Yes, on installs it needs to close so that. the new items show up in the menu the next time you startup.

Duke of Hazzard, what default keys would you like?

I check to see why I made Space bar and e as the open button. In duke Nukem 3D when you die is has a message to press space bar to restart Level.
This only works if you have Space bar as the Open key. In Shadow Warrior Space bar will restart level even if it is not setup as open key. So I will remove
Space Bar as the open key, and make e the open key only.

I have no idea of what would be most comfortable for Shadow Warrior, since the devs just used the keys labeled after the letter the name of the item starts with. "S" is used for Smoke Bomb, so maybe "B"?

Someone should revive the TEN software with working servers and bring that experience back. TEN was balls out awesome and the true home of build multiplayer.

OK, I will remove S and add B for Smoke Bomb, and that should take care of the keys that are use twice.

Ten, The old dial up days, What was the cost for using ten service. I only played on lan back then.

I've been playing a lot of DN3D in DOSbox lately, and I plan on using it everytime I can. However, the midis sound like shit, and no matter what I change, it always sound the same (I tried changing every DOSbox setting as well as game settings in setup.exe). It also doesn't matter whether I use the DOSbox version that comes with Megaton and the GOG one, both do the same.

Would you guys know how not to make it sound like shit? Apparently it's forced to using my win32 midi settings; so would there be a program or something that can make any midi on my computer sound better? Thanks.

What's weird is that midis sounded absolutely fine when playing Blood, SW, RR series and Powerslave in DOSbox...

Time for an update for Duke 3D & Shadow Warrior launchers that'll work w/ the 3D Realms Anthology and the standalone 3D Realms digital games of Duke Nukem 1,2 & 3D and Shadow Warrior Skulldog. :)

It appears that NAM is now on Steam: http://store.steampo...com/app/329650/

I'll keep an eye out on WWII GI coming to Steam. Also WWII GI and NAM coming to GOG.com

That'll add to the to-do list besides compatibility w/ the 3D Realms Anthology and the solo games from 3D Realms website.
