Prey 2 to be out in 2012

Head owns all the rights to Rune so they'd have to shop it around and get publishers interested. Prey on the other hand was brought to them as well as their other titles. Finding a publisher willing to fund a game that doesn't involve wizards or m16s could be difficult. Even more so with all this talk about nextgen. Publishers usually stick to established titles when nearing the end of current generation systems. Rune 2 would be a great fit for a nextgen launch when publishers sometimes embrace new titles, however! Since I haven't heard any new Rune talk since early last summer I think its gone asleep again.

Damn! At least they own it though so hopefully one day we'll see some severed Norse limbs again. Saw this recently:

"Pʀᴏᴊᴇᴄᴛ P ● Lead World Designer

It's a mystery!"

I wonder who's publishing it? I got a reply from Bethesda's Community manager when I asked about Prey 2's status. " I don't have any information to share. Sorry. Thanks for the note." They've completely ignored the Facebook page all year. The only people answering questions are H.H. staff! Pretty poor stuff.

I know! Bethesda has this whole community of fans and they completely ignore them except to say "nothing new" I want Prey 2 to come out, but if it doesn't come out, then please take down all the official websites. With the new year approaching, maybe Bethesda will rethink everything and start posting new information. Or maybe a new person in command will wonder WTF is going on and get things started again.

Bet you can rule out Bethesda publishing Project P!

Yeah, I think even if the game's nearly done, having to explain why Human Head isn't finishing the game will be pretty tough for them. Let the devs they hire fight that battle for them? Maybe they don't know how to approach this. If they took down the official sites there would be a shit storm online. They still list Prey 2 on there twitter page, Bethblog, Facebook but have posted in the forums twice this year and once on facebook. Not even a heads up 'you'll have to wait awhile'. Maybe if they sold the unfinished work to Square-Enix, they need a great shooter, like they picked up True Crime and turned it into Sleeping Dogs. That could be pretty cool. Hopefully with a new year comes with a clear and direct message of intent of were they stand with Prey.

Awesome Pixel art! I don't know the first two, the barfly girl from the trailers I think is called an Attling, next is the downtrodden Mimeren, thenthe main bounty from the trailer Ceros, the guys that abduct Killian called Hunters, MajarEt, don't know there names but there in the trailer and finally an imposing Brute. I really love how distinct these aliens look.

Yeah, a wide variety!

Here's my guesses...

Flying monkey
Fodder variant
Attling
Mimeren
small Ceros
Hunter
Majar Et
large Ceros
Brute

Nice! The flying monkey might be that little fellow you see at the start of trailer as Killian is gearing up. I've never seen such original aliens in a game. There's one alien that has like 8 eyes but it totally works, and another with mandible-type features that looks nothing like the predator. I love how HH took the Fire in the Sky of the first game and just sleazed it up with noir. I wish we knew some more about the story. The premise is very cool abducted by Keepers or Hunters and awakening on Exodus years later as a Bounty Hunter. Do you think Killian is hunting down Tommy (his prey) or are they working together in some kind of alliance? Either way, I expect some cool double cross or betrayal of some kind in the cruel criminal world of Exodus.

Another thing that really stands out and deserves attention is that by default you have your gun holstered, that really makes the act of pulling a gun on a enemy a meaningful action. The only other series where I've seen that is in STALKER and there the reaction is binary (Hostile/Neutral). That Aliens can cower, draw on you, give up info is just so cool! Also, depending on size and momentum you can physically move/ push people over and off edges! That kind of tactile feeling really cements the consequences of your actions in a game and draws you into the experience.

It's still sad and frustrating Bethesda won't say anything. Here's that facebook "like me" photo to see if Bethesda takes notice. It's not getting tons of attention though.

On a funny note... fan reaction to the rumor it was cancelled last spring...
http://www.youtube.c...h?v=LZgwccOekfU

That post led to a whole bunch of other stuff I found to get fan interest that failed to catch...

Then there's this wonky commentary about if Bethesda is delaying Prey2 for next gen then why go on record saying they're not doing next gen?

Oh yeah, if you look at an HD version of the trailer to see those flying aliens, they look like Majar Et's with wings. Their legs match and my impression is they're bigger than a monkey.

Yeah, next-gen is a no go for Prey 2. The adoption rate will take along time to compete with the install base of current gen. Tango Gameworks game isn't even officially announced and it's for this generation. Wouldn't make sense to push it forward.

There's some cool in-game footage without any distracting commentary:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=84nrQ8L0oL4

www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3Gk1DbNats

Some really great dialogue there! The draw distance is incredible and the world seems so alive and busy compared to how static most open-world games feel. The way light affects the environment is incredible!

Bethesda has adopted a let's never commit to anything attitude. They wouldn't even acknowledge that Rage DLC was incoming when the achievements leaked, which is small potatoes compared to how they've handled this project. I wonder how long the NDA's will last? The full story will come out one day. Look at the public responses that Obsidian and Splash Damage have made this past year. Both are moving to a new funding models! Burnt out by horrid negations maybe?

I really hope they start the new year with a bang and release a gameplay trailer with a release date. But I'm pretty doubtful. I would love it some kind of campaign kicked off and gained momentum. Then we might get some answers.

I would really enjoy hearing someone from Obsidian or Splash Damage share their experiences with Bethesda!

Here are those same 2 gameplay videos edited together...

I think this is the only real game footage we have of Prey 2 :)

Nice! It sucks that some videos have HD footage of the initial plane wreckage but have spliced it, or cut away before we see the abduction. I feel we were pretty close to seeing a gameplay trailer. Bethesda are usually referred to as tough negotiators, but I've heard some pretty nasty stories. Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth developers Headfirst productions, had to keep around half their staff in a offsite shipping container (powered by a generator) for around five months while working through some issues with Bethesda. Things were down to the wire. and they had to pinch every penny to stay afloat. It's crazy that game ever saw the light of day! It certainly wasn't supported on release despite HP's 6 years of work, poor guys. Nasty business!

It's a shame that people are so news hungry their publishing every noise or comment related to the game. I really wish some of the bigger sites would go straight to the source. If enough people asked Bethesda publicly for an update we might get a response. The developer is asking for news, not providing it! Not unreasonable seeing he's part of a team that put years of work into a title their proud of. I would want it to see the light of day.

Did you even watch the episode? The goatee makes people evil.... hence Spock is a major reference in the show.

I can't find the quote, but I'm pretty sure at Quakecon someone asked some Bethesda guys for Prey 2 news and they said there would be more 'soon'. Clearly that didn't happen. Where did you hear that?

I wasn't sure if they said there'll be more news later in 2012 or only that the game wasn't going to come out until 2013. With 2012 over, the previous idea has of course expired.

I don't think they said the game will ship in 2013. They just said the game hasn't been cancelled. The press and public inferred that meant it would be delayed to 2013 because it's not shipping in 2012.

www.bethblog.com/2012/04/19/prey-2-update/

"Development of Prey 2 has not been cancelled but the game will not be released in 2012 as planned. The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards. Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans. We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want. We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule."

If work stopped in October/ November 2011 and was expected to ship in March (http://www.geforce.c...-prey-2-cg-pics), it was so close to being done. If there starting over, with a new team or rebuilding the game I don't think we'll see this game again.

G'Damn... a whole year completely wasted. I can't even imagine what the game would be like if someone had been working on it during 2012. Bethesda's run by bunch of short-sighted egomaniacs.

Having just saw some screenshots I hadn't seen before brought it all back again. Some of the last few were new to me.

Those shots are gorgeous. If Bethesda's public reasoning for the delay is that 'game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year,' are we going to hear another version of this in a couple of months? Lord knows they have the resources to deliver the game. If they had spent the past year just working instead of fighting Human Head, we would be playing the game now and reading about it on end of year lists! I can't imagine what it must've felt like for Human Head last year when they took the game away just to let it gather dust so close to the finish line. While fully supporting Arkane and delivering on Dishonored, Bethesda did the exact opposite with Prey 2 and Human Head. I wonder how some of the folks at Arkane must feel about that. Harvey Smith shared a stage with Chris Rhinehart at Quakecon and press tours like Gamescon and the Eurogamer Expo. He's had very public spats with publishers before (anyone remember his Midway blowup?) but I guess he doesn't want to rock the boat while the goings good. I know that Dan Todd, a level designer at Arkane hired out of the Thief Fm community, said Prey 2 was incredible and truly unique. I hope we get to play it one day.

"No comment" is another version. As it should be.

Looking at those screenshots it's pretty obvious to me the middle ones are of the intro level on the sphere from Prey 1 especially considering the earth in the sky. It's interesting to me how they expanded\retconned the level design for the airplane crash as well as incorporating the new Hunter designs into it. The plane crash area in Prey 1 wasn't nearly as complex with the rows of seats hanging out of the fuselage, the burning fires, etc.

I also like the pistol pics.. it looks like his old pistol from when he's on earth vs an upgraded model for when he's on Exodus. I can see now especially that the aliens probably made a weapon for him based on what he's used to.

And what of Prey 2, which Bethesda announced would not launch this year as planned amid reports that developer Human Head had not worked on the game since February because of a contract dispute with ZeniMax?

September 20th: Details of a beta phase in December 2011.
http://www.dsogaming...-pc-beta-phase/
According to Steam’s records, Prey 2 appeared on Valve’s digital distribution records on December 17, 2011 in “ValveTestApp72790 Beta” subscription with subscription code “P2Beta”. This could very well mean that Bethesda ran a closed/internal beta phase for this cancelled game. That, or Zenimax was ready to launch the game’s beta phase before it got put on hold….In March, there was another rumor about Prey 2′s cancellation. Contrary to Doom 4′s cancellation rumors, Bethesda did not comment on them. Later on, the publisher stated that the game would be missing its initial release date and was planned for a 2013 release. However, the game was then removed from Bethesda’s products line-up, suggesting that the game has been put on hold.

Oct 1, 2012: A rumour surfaces that the game is complete! "We were told the game is done, and if it were to be released for 2013, only a few new adjustments need to be made."

December the 13th: Human Head launch their first free to play game Fort Courage.

In the past year, Human Head have been working on an unannounced AAA console game, Bioshock Infinite, Fort Courage and Rune Classic! That’s a full plate. Who, if anyone, is working on the game? Has the game not been formally cancelled due to Radar Group holding partial rights or a contract stipulation ensuring the game is released? Has Human Head given someone the source material (their homebrew version of radiant Headitor and Preditor they've been working on since 2001) to finish the game?

Most importantly is the game going to be released?

There have been over 500 specific questions on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/prey2) concerning this games release over past 6 months. There hasn't been a single answer! Can Prey 2 fans expect any news next year?

I want to play this!
