Actual depression is marked by chronicness. That is what people who like to fake happiness will say.

I'm suffering depression right now. It's a serious illness and we all go through it at some stage for no particular reason.

I suffered from that during the summer, took a load of medication. It's pretty brutal.

If you say that depression is a state of mind....well, you don't want to know.

Psychological illnesses are real and actual depression, chronic anxiety and such, are serious mental issues. Now, whence they come and how they got there is up for debate.

It is most possible that depression is caused by negative thoughts. Are you saying that thoughts can get you ill? or did i get it wrong.

There actually have been many cases of people getting real sick because of thoughts. But thats a complete other thing.

I've some reservation about what is a sickness. Why is depression considered a sickness? About six month ago I distanced myself from society. I felt like it. So I ought to go into a sanatorium? Maybe? Why? A psychologist or a drug pusher otherwise known as a psychiatrist may have field day analyzing depressions. Fuck 'em. I think if you are depressed, enjoy it. Call in sick, sleep in, cut the TV, throw away the cell, breath in and out, and smell the roses. I think your instinct is telling you something. Time to change. Rejuvenate.

It's a theory, but I think this why so many teenager are diagnosed with depression; they simply change, but, unlike the olden days, get pumped with a shitload of dangerous addictive drugs sanctioned by the mighty government, because depression ain't no right. I think to go through phases of depression is healthy, and should not be disturbed by drugs. In my never humble opinion. ;) :P

Pills do help in some cases. Also there are different types of depression, what you mentioned sounded more like stress. Stress leads to depression. Sometimes people get depressed for doing too little.

Also i think that teenagers have very good reasons for being depressed or have phobias. They have to live up to so many requirements. Not only in school or in sports. They also feel like they have to be as good as other kids, or else they aren't good enough, and sometimes they don't even know they feel that way themselves.

So "drugs" will in this case make the teenagers feel more relaxed in the body.

Depression is an illness because of a slight upset of a certain hormone, I can't remember the name of it off hand. It also stands to reason that since your state of happiness is controlled by chemicals, then these chemicals can fluctuate in amount to some degree, hence causing natural highs or lows. Don't tell me you haven't experienced waking up one morning and feeling happy for no reason? And don't say you feel happy in the morning anyway, almost everyone feels a bit stiff and drowsy when they wake up.

Although in medical terms, depression is when the hormone stays at an unnaturally low level for an extended period of time, and when it becomes serious enough to cause suicide.

I can't believe this. I just moved to 64 bit IE, and proud and everything, now some websites give me black boxes where Flash content is. + Mozilla is faster, much faster on 32 bit. Some progress huh! :P :P :D ;)

64 bit is apparently still in "beta" even though it has been around for years. There are so many programs that haven't made the jump to 64 bit and it is preventing it from becoming main stream.
So many applications get thrown into my /Program Files (32 bit) folder rather than /Program Files

Yeah, but this is my big weekend for 64 bit. (Long Weekend in Canada) Even my pet projects are now being compiled for 64 bit. Are you saying, 64 bit is slowing to a standstill?

I'm saying the fact that so many even new programs that I install are 32 bit only, is not a good sign for 64 bit. It is better, but since so many people aren't compiling for 64 bit, it doesn't do any good.

Fortunately, I think the open source community will be the ones who make 64 bit work. I mean, 27 64 bit applications and 100+ 32 bit applications. Of those 27 64 bit most are either Windows or open source.

Well, I'll risk it. It took me three nights to get MingW 64 work with Qt, ironically, open source all the way, I needed lots of help, and open source peeps do it for fun, like me.

Cheers. Who says the best things in live cost cash?

I just saw this video of some kid in China with 31 toes. Now I'm going to get something to eat.

No, just kidding, it was kind of freaky.

I mean, my cat has 6 toes on his feet and 5 on his front paws, but 8 toes each. Damn.

And you didn't post the video!?! That's got to be a crime against humanity.

I tried clearing up space in my hard drive. Out of an available 450GB, I only managed to clear up about 50GB, which were mostly old games I'd never play again. I have 100GB of backups for my other computer, which means I have about 300GB of crap and essential programs and no way to sort through it all. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if half of that were identical copies of the HRP and other Duke Nukem related stuff.

Micky sounds like he needs a hug.

I like Hank's explanation of depression. Very "me".

For the past year or so I've been battling with all kinds of versions of eDuke32 on my computer, and the fact that it would mysteriously crash a random amount of time into the game with no explanation or pattern. Sometimes I could go 5 minutes or sometimes 25 minutes. I finally went back to a very old version of JFDuke from November 2005 - when I first discovered the HRP - and to my amazement the problem is gone. It's amazingly basic compared to modern incarnations of eDuke32 - in fact it feels like Vanilla Duke simply running under an emulation layer - but the very fact that it works has made me happy.

I have to say though, while a game controller is no substitute for a mouse and keyboard, I have come to like playing Duke on the Xbox. Armchair gaming is just... nice.

In that old version of JFDuke3D can you do thing where you can kick with both legs at once? (quick kick and mighty foot at the same time) in eduke32 it's either one or the other, but never both in the same split second

Edit: and you're right, I do need a hug ;)

Well, yes and no. The bug you're thinking of was within Duke itself, it was fixed after 1.3D, I think. Well, all I know is that it doesn't exist in Atomic Edition 1.5, which is what I have.

My only small gripe with that version of JFDuke (which is really just a modified eDuke, I think) is that the mouse aiming is a bit, well, primitive. Sensitivity when you're hardly moving the mouse is quite high, and when you flick or jerk the mouse it's not as responsive as I'd like it to be. More modern versions of eDuke, as well as many other games, have it so that the faster you move the mouse, the more the movement speeds up. Other than that it's a solid port, pretty much back to basics if you run it in 8 bit software mode. It actually reminds me a bit of ZDoom.

_Gives Micky a hug_ ;)

Actually, you have it backwards; eduke32 is a modified version of JFDuke.

He means eDuke, not eDuke32, I think.

JFDuke doesn't have anything to do with eduke does it? I thought it was just a straight up port, plus polymost and a few things. At least on the page oporix linked I didn't see any mention of JFDuke until it started talking about TX and eduke32.

Edit: I'm about to go to school for a whole day of House Badminton Competitions, and as the (Co)captain of badminton of the school and my House Badminton Captain a lot of pressure is put on me to do well, wish me luck!

Damnit! JFDuke hasn't completely fixed the problem. It just occurs less often...

I made it through the whole of LA meltdown (about 15 minutes' worth of play) but it wiped out on another game after about 15-20 minutes' worth of Shrapnel City. I was getting towards the end of flood zone I think. ;)

And thanks to those who clarified its existance. I honestly never knew eDuke32 was born from JFDuke.

Are you feeling better Micky?

EDuke was a modification of the original Duke3D source by Matt Saettler (also worked on Blood and Redneck Rampage.) JFDuke was a straight port of Duke3D with some contributions from Ken Silverman (like Polymost.) EDuke32 is (or was) a synthesis of EDuke and JFDuke, though I'd bet very little of EDuke's code hasn't been rewritten yet.
