No, it's important. Because you're not a man of your word.

I suppose, if you want to be picky...
Of course, it was an obvious troll post that incited rage (and thus accomplished its purpose).

Vulnerability? WTF? And overcompensation?? no. MusicallyInspired you've got the wrong end of the stick.

I watched Commando yesterday, that movie is epic, especially that scene where he rips the phone booth up while the guy is stood inside it.

Anyhow, after seeing MusicallyInspired's thread it's made me think even more that I should get myself a new computer, I'm gonna start saving up for it soon but I want to buy myself a new 286 first. This will probably be the last system I ever build and as I won't be starting till about November the specs will probably change a lot as the Xeon E3-1220 will be out by then and so I will be building the system around that if I can afford it.

Otherwise, here are my planned specs with current equivalent hardware (Xeon 5600/5500) just for the general idea;
Motherboard - SuperMicro X8DAH+
CPU - 2x Intel Xeon 5000 Series (Probably 5600 series, quad core, not sure yet)
RAM - 288Gb DDR3 (Like where this links, not fussed about the brand).
GPU - nVidia Quadro Plex 7000 (The GTX sucks)
HDD - 6x Western Digital, Either RE4-GP 2Tb or VelociRaptor 600Gb - Don't like Solid State yet.
Chassis - Probably something like this
The other crap wil be rather standard, cheap CD-ROM drives and one of my old Floppy Drives. So there you are, a rough outline of what I am planning, shouldn't have to upgrade that machine for a while if I build it.

Why do you need 2 CPUs, 6 HDDs and 288GB RAM?

Because I want that stuff and that should be enough reason, that and I'd rather spend a lot of money at one time than have to upgrade as time goes on. My original design had four Opteron processors, but I figured I would cut back a bit and I don't like AMD anyway. As for the RAM, why wouldn't I want that much RAM? I've been getting back into my animation and it is extremely memory heavy and uses a lot of drive space. I run out of memory a lot and it gets tedious.

I like the way people always ask that same questions. When I built "Captain America" - my Dual P3 system - people on DriverZone (Where I used to hang out and troll) asked "Why do you need 2 CPU's and 2Gb of RAM?" or when I built my current system "Why do you need 12 HDD's and 4Gb of RAM?" I answer the same each time - I hate upgrading, if I'm gonna build a good system I may as well do it properly.

In this case though, it may be my last build because I am losing interest and I will just be using the computer for animation, videos and a few games, I may as well go out with a bang (build the best machine I can) eh?

If you are upgrading for a "last time" you should just drop the $100~$200 on a blu-ray burner.

I don't know why anyone would need more than 4 or 8 gb of ram but you never know what people do with their computer and in the future programs may need that much memory.

The latest video cards have already 4Gb of ram, are the size of a mini lap top, and accept up to 3000 streams like a server. We render entire towns with them. (still sloooow) I see no end for the need for more. Hell, I started with a 386dx44 and the big thing was a math coprocessor. And the video card was just there. I had 8MB of RAM, and 500MB hard drive. Ironically it still runs DoomII, and my ancient engineering programs. But can't handle modern programs or Oss.
I'm not worried about the annual upgrade in hardware, but the upgrade in programs. This is where the bookie laments about the costs, relentless. It's like they think money just grows on trees. :P

Fixed the motion judder issues I was having with my stuff. I upgraded to PowerDVD 10 which has a feature called TrueTheatre which interpolates frames from 24 to 60 FPS or 72 FPS (based on a 60Hz or 72Hz screen). Not to 120 FPS or 240 FPS, because that would too fake, but just enough to get rid of most of the judder.

All this stuff should be be in MusicallyInspired's thread

It shouldn't, because I don't want to derail/hijack his thread with a system I migh not even be able to build.

I think people still aren't grasping the point of my system, it's always the same. Thing is, people didn't get the point last time, and I've been using the same machine for six years, meaning I have more money as I have not had to upgrade, this time I want to be able to keep the same machine for ten years without upgrading, by my calculations this is entirely possible.

Don't think fixing my motion judder issue has anything to do with buying a new computer. At any rate, it's fixed, and I'm happy about it. Been bugging me for ages.

You worry too much about small posts. I buy hand me downs from a film studio next door. It's not new, it's usually 6 month old i.e. already old news, but perfect to make videos for new development show cases, and other upgrades are for Intergraph and AutoCad stations. This is all tax deductible equipment! If you buy any of this stuff just to play games – wow – you must have cash coming out of your ears or be filthy rich.

My lap top is a plain HP Pavilion, does not even do Blue Ray, my game comp is an unholy mixture of left overs, and the third is now a year old from the office, and is for work, no games either. See, it all has zero to do with the fine rig from MusicallyInpired.
