//Clings to De Officii (Cicero, Oxford Press)
You'll have to pry it from my cold dead fingers...but you'll never catch me. I'll hide in the woods...yeah, with fairies and magical elves...and I'll have hybrid children with the elves and we'll all live happily reading books and watching stars...And then, many generations from now, descendants will tell myths of the evils in the forest to keep people from wandering out of the village.

What movie is that from? All I know is that it was parodied in scary movie 4 (which I didn't like anywhere near as much as scary movie 3, but I'm still not sure why)

The same. I rather pay 30€ for a used textbook than download it digitally.

Why?

Do I like getting gifts? Sure. But it is not the same as giving them. Well you can philosophy over that. Simply hand out some gifts and see what happens and report back. If you prefer to receive, fine.

Yep. But the saying most likely implies that it's better from a moral point of view. While in reality vanity might be the main reason behind good deeds.

That's one motivator. I think love, guild, control, manipulation, naivete are other reasons to give. Or, are there absolutes in human behaviour?

However, I rarely use hyperbole when it comes to my parents. Part of that may be because I'm tired of people assuming that since I'm a white kid who is well educated I'm upper class or some shit like that. Fuck you, I worked hard and my parents work hard to put us kids through school. My parents make about the national median ($50,000) and that is perfectly fine. We never had nice stuff and the house is cold in the winter and hot in the summer (I just arrived back to my parents' place tonight for the first time since moving out and was reminded that they don't use the heat much).
If there is one thing I learned from my parents it is honesty and simplicity along with gratitude.

All I got was a good ass kicking and a "how not to" on raising kids.

Also, Micky, I am against schools forcing students to buy or use laptops or iPads. It just doesn't seem right. Some people can't learn with technology (as it serves more as a distraction than aid or it just doesn't help) so it is stupid to force someone to learn that way. It also seems unfair to people who can't afford the things.

I am against schools forcing students to even buy books. It should be part of that tuition you're going into debt for.

I don't even get textbooks any more. I just bullshit my work regardless.

When it comes to buying books, a few of my classmates figured it out:check them out from the library the entire semester.

Sometimes giving is infinitly better than receiving. Especially if you surprised them and made them really happy.

Giving is definitely better than recieving, and it certainly does surprise people when you walk up behind them and give to them... But it doesn't always make them happy, last time I ended up on some kind of register and couldn't go within 500 feet of them ever again.

Though the last time I received I could not sit down for a week  - and that was worse!

Just got this new phone, however, the area code is 587, so I thought I would need to pay long distance fees if I was calling my brother who lives 10 minutes from my house (or about a 30 minute walk). It seems that long distance calls will not be charged to you based on where you live, but how far the call goes. So if it goes around 15 blocks (roughly the distance to my brother's place), and his area code is 403, then I won't be nailed for long distance charges.

Now if I was to call my cousin who lives in Grande Prairie Alberta (780 area code, and a 9 hour drive), then I would be charged some fees. A lot of people were pissed because they might have to pay fees for someone who lives in the same city.

Btw, how big is the 3rd fan? I suspect it sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

People charge for long distance still? I suppose since everyone has cell phones now, no one is using the long distance feature so they still charge for it...seems rather silly.

Nope, not photoshop, Lotan has the right idea.

It was -3C outside and I still have the duct fitting at the back, so I hooked it all up again (I've had the duct out for a while) drawing very old air through the radiators, my aim was to acheive single digit temperature (It was sitting at 14C before that) - I want it to try and hit 0C with it, so hopefully the weather will get very cold again (It was -12 outside the other day, I want it that cold outside again).

The third fan is about 40MM, it is the Northbridge cooler, it uses a latch-mount so I can not find a water block for it, it is also a non-standard fan and can't be replaced, it's hard work keeping that fan alive, as long as I don't shut the machine off it seems to work.

Is it really good for a computer to be that cold? I mean, 0 C. Weird things start to happen at 0 C (at least in water).

Providing you don't take it to that temperature too quickly it will do no harm, unless condensation starts to build up inside it.
My only worry would be freezing the coolant, but it isn't supposed to freeze that easily, I guess I will soon find out.
