I have public transportation: DC has an awesome metro system and a bus goes from my apartment to the station at school.

This is only awesome when the damn bus is on time...25 minutes late, seriously? What the hell type of set up is this shit? I was late to work when I was planning on arriving 20 minutes early.

Oh, and Mr.Green, what is with the image?

I was asked to go to the Restoring Honor thing a month ago but I decided I didn't want to deal with the people. I'm originally from St.Louis so the chance to see Albert Pujols would have been cool. Other than that I probably would have been making sarcastic comments and such throughout (to no one in particular since I don't have any friends here).

I don't think I want to deal with the swarms of people at these things. I hate people but if I have someone to "cling to" or something I'll rock it. I heard that the Metro was hell at the Restoring Honor thing and I imagine it will be the same for the stuff Comedy Central is doing.

I need some outlet of sarcasm and cynicism while at anything even remotely close to political in nature. If I am at these things alone, I have no outlet other than strangers who may or may not be offended by something I say.

Little known fact:
The First Amendment says nothing about free speech outside of the Press.

How is that?

Quote

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

See, I have a pocket constitution around here somewhere...and I couldn't find it when I needed it (and I still can't find it)

Of course, this proves that no one actually reads the constitution. There is nothing in there about separating religion and state; just that you can't prohibit religion.

Who said anything about religion? We were talking about freedom of speech.

True. But I have been thinking about this for a while. One thing I heard was that when the judge in California struck down the ban on homosexual marriages he made a comment about religions. For that reason alone his judgment could be turned over in the name of the First Amendment; he makes a political statement about religion (essentially calling religions evil or something to that effect). It doesn't matter how you feel about religion or homosexual marriage, the statement infringes the First Amendment by making a law that in some way touches on religious freedom.

How did this law touched on religious freedom? What exactly he said? If he said something like "religious laws of marriage can't be used to enforce state laws", then I don't see any problem.

It started with "religious laws can't be used to enforce state laws" and then he went on to attack religious beliefs. That is the problem. All he had to say was that the law (that was voted on and approved by the people of California) was unsconstitutional for whatever reason (most reasonable would be the "free speech" thing or such) but I think he got up on his soap box to say that religious beliefs shouldn't even be mentioned. This, ironically, infringes on free speech.

The problem is that these things are so huge (like 138 pages of text) so unless you feel like reading through that much crap, you have to rely on what people say about it. Since a lot of the time people just report on the immediate end result, the people pointing out that his verdict could have repercussions on the freedom of religion and the fact that he called California voters irrational (I shit you not) gets lost in the news feed.
Of course, Wikipedia is always an option.

Of course, this wouldn't be the first time a California judge attacked religious belief: there was that whole fiasco with the pledge of allegiance and the words "under God".

Our national anthem has word "god" in it. And I would never sing that piece of crap. Anyway, anthem was better without words in it, but some idiot thought otherwise.

Ah, the Star Spangled Banner was written by Francis Scott Keys from a British prison ship after he saw the massive flag soaring over a fort near Boston. That flag was made by some old woman and several "african american indentured servants" or something like that..I do not make this up: the National Museum of American History has a thing on the flag and they refuse to use the word "slave" as if by not saying it, the history ceases to exist.

I think 30 lashings and then rubbing salt in the wounds would be a good punishment. :)
