I think the whole bit of argument is narrowed down to one hour and then the justices argue for hours or something. I'm not really sure how the Supreme Court works but I know that it has huge repercussions across the country.

stare decisis, in short, all the lower courts, for better or worse, have to abide by it, unless it gets appealed back up the ladder again, as has been the case for ~37 years with Roe v Wade

Well, technically, Roe v Wade has never been appealed at the Supreme Court. Although many people would like it to be appealed, it has not been. This is what bothers me when people say stuff about x president who had whatever full control of the senate etc and couldn't repeal Roe v Wade...well, it is up to the Supreme Court to make that change and unless you kill off half or most of the Justices, you won't even get the case to have a chance for an appeal.

I'm not sure if there are any abortion related cases this year but it is possible that the justices can't agree to hear any of the cases about abortion because they know it will get so much attention.
