So you cherry pick some misc punk music and then go with top 40 for anything else?

I didn't cherry pick anything. Its what hundreds of Ranker and thousands of Last.FM users picked. Kind of like a real music chart. The only reason I didn't use Last.FM for both is that there was irrelevant shit like Greenthumb 75, Summer 21, and Blank-1488 shit in there because people don't know how to tag shit.

To put a better way - If you want to do a proper comparison you need to use the same methodology for both. So you should look up who or what are considered the best Hip Hop acts, look at those band's play on Last.fm, and then post lyrical interpretation from the artist.

You can't use the same methodology for both because Punk is dead and irrelevant (so you have to go with what has staying power.) There are plenty of new and old bands out there kicking it, but it's such a small community statistics are literally meaningless in this case, especially since most bands have regional followings, not national ones. Punk has so little to do with mass culture. Hip-Hop's top 40 chart IS relevant however, because that's what's pushing the medium. Deltron-3030 is great, but just as irrelevant to your average person as Darby Crash. Your reply is at best disingenuous, ignoring more important points I made and at worst a flat-out red herring. But you know what? Even if I followed the same methodology, I come up with Tupac, Eminem, Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Rakim, and Andre 3000.... I'll let you guess how many of them have songs about drinking and driving, doing drugs, selling drugs, indiscriminate sex, and killing people. You need to stop with the passive aggressive shit posts just because you have moderator status and step your game up if you actually want to have a conversation.

You sound like a person saying "You don't know how to use the longbow, step up your game" as someone walks up with a rifle and shoots everyone.

I sympathize, but we're stuck here dealing with those that have figured out how to deal with opposition by being willing to brutally eradicate while simultaneously writing inspiring rebellion narratives they know will not succeed.

It's not a passive aggressive shitpost to say that you generally use the same methodology when doing a comparison. If you did it we could have a conversation. Otherwise we're comparing apples and bananas.

Once again, you went ahead and ignored my points. I used the same methodology and you saw the results.

I didn't notice you posting the Last.fm results with artist statements. I mean, I can point to songs from most of the punk artists you posted that are about sex drugs and violence. Except probably Bad Religion. I don't recall anything by them anyway (that wasn't an explicitly political statement). Probably my favorite punk band.

Edit:
Also the conversation is a weird tangent when I was originally talking about parts of punk subculture (not explicitly/solely music) and comparisons to actions by/culture of black youths. I'm okay with talking about going general musical genre subject comparisons though, but I just want to note that it's getting away somewhat from the argument (or at least the intended argument/comparison).

Off the top of my head:

Beat on the Brat, Anarchy in the UK (or alternatively Bodies), Six Pack, Real Cool Time. Other than that I'd have to look.

Edit: This conversation in general has gotten me interested in looking up current music trends and subjects (based on current Billboard charts) since I wonder where the general trend of music subject matter has gone over the last few years. Like, to me it seems that most current music (well, since the early mid 2ks) has been largely about partying (and therefore sex and drugs) or suburban rich kid whining, and mostly lacking in deeper subject matter but that's just my general sense. It's just a general underlying feeling like all of the music is saying, "keep yourself mentally drugged and pay no attention to the people behind the curtains". I'm actually curious to look it over at some point soon and write something about it (broken down by genre).

Beat on the Brat: I'm sure the Ramones actually beat children. Just like C Murder, Cassidy, and Snoop Dogg actually killed people.

Dee Dee Ramone: I think Joey wrote "Beat on the Brat" then. It was a true story. Joey saw some mother going after a kid with a bat in his lobby and he wrote a song about it.
Joey Ramone: Forest Hills was a middle class neighborhood filled with snobby rich people and their screaming brats. It was filled with these fucking little kids running around who were really annoying. And it wasn't like the parents were beating them, it was just that you wanted to beat them, they were just such spoiled brats. They were so out of control and got away with murder, that you just felt like killing them.

Anarchy in the UK: It's called tongue in cheek. Johnny Rotten is the most harmless motherfucker alive. He just looks scary. I mean shit, he was on Fuse.

Bodies: Doesn't promote violence. It's about how disgusting and fucked up abortions are. It's a warning.

Six Pack: You do know this song is satire, right? Just like TV Party, it's an attack on idiots.

Real Cool Time: Golly gee, look at these degenerate lyrics;
Can I come over tonight?
Can I come over tonight?
What do you think I wanna do?
That's right
Can I come over tonight?
I say we will have a real cool time tonight
I say we will have a real cool time tonight
I say we will have a real cool time tonight
I say we will have a real cool time tonight
I said we will have a real cool time tonight
I said we will have a real cool time
We will have a real cool time
A real cool time tonight

Sure, and a lot of other songs are satire or exaggeration and not necessarily condoning behavior. You asked about songs involving violence, substance use, and sex. I only listed a few, and purposefully skipped ones that have an obviously different interpretation and didn't look over discography (or artistic statements). And I only listed songs from the bands you posted (unless I mistook one that's a cover?). For that reason I didn't list songs like Friggin in the Riggin (which isn't an original song).

For those interested in Star Wars comics (digital versions), Dark Horse are selling them with 50% discount on all items or a Farewell Megabundle containing everything for $300 (List price $2,714.34). Disney and Marvel take over on the 1st January, so if you want to get them, now is your chance.

I asked about songs that ENCOURAGE this sort of behaviour. Minor Threat might have sung about alcohol, but they sure didn't encourage drinking it.

But doesn't not actively discouraging it (as was the case of bands like Minor Threat, who were straight edge... in fact invented it) mostly just a passive acknowledgment that it's part of the culture?

Yep, and since no one knows what really happened we have to accept it and move on (even if we disagree). That's how the legal system works, at least in cases where you can't appeal or present new evidence. By the same token a lot of people are sent to jail that shouldn't be there and unfortunately it's something we have to live with. That's why I (usually) oppose the death penalty. It's a tough one.
