I guy, I know for a long time, had one accident a while ago. He is now officially (as per doctors) fucked for life. Well, he'll get some insurance compensation, but this won't add up to a Ferrari or his other dreams. I may change my sig to "Better to be rich and healthy than poor and sick" Posted Image

Don't you mean "Better to be poor and healthy than rich and sick?" because of course it's better to be rich and healthy than poor and sick.

Also, sorry to hear about your friend, it's always sad when someone's life is permenantly affected in a negative way whether it's illness or injury.

In German[y] the cynical deviation of the saying has be become more popular than the original because there's more truth about society in it.

@ Micky C and LeoD.

I meant what I wrote. The first time I read the saying was in German in Germany. It was a phrase used by Dagobert Duck in one of Walt Disney's Lustige Taschenbuch. (1968? I don't remember)

What gets me, I warned him about using that silly moped scooter shit in this city. Ride a Harley I suggested, at least you are gonna to get noticed in traffic, not this abortion of a bicycle. Anyway. Too late. Life goes on. Posted Image

While Harleys are most definitely louder than scooters, there's simply no substitute for defensive driving. Plus unless your friend was rich (and I gather he isn't), the scooter would have been the more fuel-efficient and inexpensive option, so I wouldn't blame him for that.

No, he rode defensibly (as per the cops report), but a car made a lane change a bit too quick (he did not see him) and slammed into him.

I don't blame my mates for anything. He was not destitute. It was a choice, he loved those scooters - it's that simple. He is my friend, so I will never tell him 'I told you so'; but here in this forum, I could not resist to rant against this piece of shit of an excuse to be ridden on a real road in a city with over hundred different languages spoken, people on cells, doing make-up, you name it, it is IMO foolish.

b.t.w. If you like those yourself (mopeds), hey, it's a free country. Posted Image

I drive a Hyosung Prima Racing 50cc, so admittedly I have a bit of a conflict of interest.

Posted Image

My driving one arose out of a need for consistent, quick transportation between campus and my apartment, as well as to my current job. It was about $1,000 and so far I've driven this thing about 10,000 kilometers according to the odometer. It has a wonderful MPG ratio, and yes, it's by no means the safest method of transportation. However, in the long run, it has turned out to be a lot cheaper than leasing a car for that same purpose (and my previous girlfriend adored riding on it).

It has certainly made me a lot more alert when driving on the road. One has to make a concerted effort to avoid driving into blind spots and to always be attentive to traffic patterns. As you said, the risk is eminent and unavoidable when using a vehicle of this sort, but I live in a town where scooters are everywhere, so the automobile drivers are somewhat acclimated to their presence on the roads.

If you click their name then go to display name history it tells you who they were.

In this case he is The Mighty Bison :)

I preffer the An-22, the millitary version is the best.

Anyhow, I'm trying to get my Steam account deleted and Steam Support are refusing to co-operate. As far as I know, they don't have a leg to stand on, it's my data and I've requested that it is either deleted or else made unavailable to the public.

Am I right in thinking this? Does anybody know anything about this stupid policy?

It'd be much easier for them to do as he asks after that and just remove the personal details to spare themselves any legal trouble, since technically they're violating their own privacy policy.

omg now Spiker changed his name to Trooper Tom and has a very similar display pic. Oh the confusion...

maybe everyone should change their name to trooper (some 3 letter name) and have a picture of a trooper and a fence just to mock DT.

Heading up to Edmonton next weekend to help my mom with a presentation. I'm her tech guy. Last weekend she needed someone to show her how to embed a video in a PowerPoint presentation. I'm getting paid for it too! Think she said $300 or so. One of the things I want to do while I'm up there is drive by Bioware's headquarters. They're located on Calgary Trail. Also wanted to go to West Edmonton Mall. Biggest mall in North America and 5th largest in the world.

Ordered my new motherboard today, so I'm deffinitely locked-in to building a new computer now, it's nothing special, just a SuperMicro X9SCA. I had to import it from the USA, the nearest seller was in Germany but he wanted £200 for it BEFORE any shipping costs, the one in the USA was around £145 and after shipping, came to around £170, so I saved at least £30 on that. If they were available in my country, they would probably cost at least twice that amount.

The processor I want to use with the board is the Xeon E3-1270. I was going to go with a single E5-1620 (A bit like a buff version of the i7-3820, would have used an X9SRA mobo if anyone cares) but I can not obtain one. The E3-1270 seems to be good value though, it is a quad core CPU with HyperThreading (8 Logical cores then) and the Benchmarks are promising for a CPU that will cost little more than £250 given the length of time I want to use it for. Give it 32GB of RAM and some other nice hardware and the machine should perform very well - my main tasks are video editing, gaming isn't something I really do on the PC outside of old DOS computers and Duke Nukem - should still play everything if I want it to though.

That's another import though, again, the nearest seller wants near enough £400 for it when I can get one from the US for under £300, my hat is off to you sellers in the USA, you've saved my ass and my cash several times now, I thank you all for shipping internationally.

If you can't tell, I'm tired, I started playing Haunting Ground and saved my game, the save screen tells you both the time you have been playing in total and the time at which you saved, it said 5:00 which is concerning, luckily I don't have to be up for anything anytime soon.
