What Micky said. I spent much of yesterday with my girlfriend and her mother. As far as I know, she approves and that is good. Mothers, even of 27 year old women, have unyielding power and if I wasn't acceptable, she'd try to talk her out of dating me.

I forgot I had uploaded this video last year, it is from a DVD called High Octane. Came out around 2000'ish.
This was a short movie on the DVD which takes the piss from Fast & Furious and other cultures around that time, I thought it would have gathered more views by now as it has a laugh or two even if you are not some "boy racer" fan.
Filmed in Auckland, New Zealand

My brother thinks I'm weird because all I wear are blank T-shirts with nothing on them.

User is offline   Lunick

#5135

My friends seem to think that too as I wear plain shirts as well. If I like it then does it really matter?

User is offline   Jeff

#5136

I don't know. I don't really care what the shirt says on it as long as it covers up my chest and all.

I'm the same, can't wear obvious logos on clothing as it seem ridiculous to pay to advertise for big corporations. Also I generally find the people who flash the biggest logos are the stupidest people who are so shallow to think that their worth as a person is equal to what they can aford to buy and show off, its mindless shit really if only the fools took a minute to reflect on that but unfortunatly they can't because they are incapable of thinking for themselves. Its funny as a young child those branded clothing items were so important to me (even though I was never allowed have them because my parents are smart) so that goes to show you the mind level of people who place such importance on material crap.

That's actually my preferred method of trolling. However, my trolling is of a higher level than most juvenile fashions. Very subversive and subtle. I like to get under people's skin, most of the time they don't know how to react.

I have to stay, this is the most insufferable term to ever come to fruition.

I don't wear all too much clothing with logos on it either, unless it's for something I actually support. So you can nick off Nike or Affliction, but I'll still wear something with a favorite band or movie, and I wear a t-shirt for a local recycling company I frequent a lot. If I support something I'll wear it, and I've actually bought things before and removed the logo.

Wow, about time. I guess it up to his son to keep that poor country in the stone age now.

Apparently Kim Jong Il was nuts...

In other news, being finished with school is a nice feeling. This afternoon I am heading to visit my parents for a few weeks or R&R. It is a shame I'll have limited computer access, but I'll survive.

So I get my final year's results in about 12 hours. Well, for 4 out of the 5 subjects anyway, but only the top 4 count because the 5th was extra. I need a good mark to enter my selected course in tertiary education, so there's a lot weighing on this.

Good Luck Micky.

I got my results today and I'm happy with them I guess, I probably should study harder :)

Went to get the oil in my car changed yesterday. Course, I can do it myself, and honestly I'd prefer to as well, but a stipulation on my car's extended warranty is that I show some proof of having it regularly serviced. So, I swung by a place to get it taken care of, parked outside and met an attendant on the way in. I told him what I wanted to have done, and he gave me some forms, I gave him my keys, etc. A few minutes later, I'm inside filling out the forms, he comes back inside and says to me, "I can't drive your car."

...For a bit of background information, my car's an 05 VW GTI with a 5-speed manual transmission. I don't want to seem like a dick and straight-up ask him if it's because it's a stickshift, so instead I ask if there's anyone else in the shop that can.

Nope.

In the place's defense, there were only two other people (it was sort of early in the morning) but one of them was the manager and he didn't even know how, and then the attendant asks me if I could pull it forward into the bay, while giving me my keys back. I tell him nevermind, I'll just take it somewhere else. I'm sure I came of as a bit of an ass in having done that, but mother of god...A place staffed by people that work on cars for a living and not one of them knew how to drive a stick. Depressing stuff.

I'm a bit ashamed to admit I don't know how to drive stick either. I've only owned two cars and both of them have been automatic (obviously...) by choice. Due to where I was living at the times I purchased both vehicles, I just felt like it would be easier to have an automatic. Something about getting stuck in stop and go traffic on the freeway for hours at a time with a manual transmission didn't sound fun to me. :P Not to mention the fact that the whole area was a construction zone for the entire 8 years I lived there.

In other news, I've been sick for days and it's horrible. At least I have a shiny new Galaxy Nexus to play with to keep my mind off of it. :)

I don't have a driver's license. I think the fear of getting into an accident or a few other things scared me away from it. I'm comfortable taking the bus. Besides, I don't even have the money to pay for the gas plus insurance and all that.

Eh. I'm sure you've heard it plenty of times before, but there's nothing super-hard about driving a stick, save for learning how to take off properly. Course, that's assuming the car being driven is relatively modern. I learned how to drive manuals in an old 80's model GMC pickup that had no power-steering. That shit was fun (and by "fun", I mean it was the most terrifying fucking thing I've ever had to do in a parking lot).

I guess a lot of it comes down to the kind of car you have. Being stuck in stop-and-go traffic can indeed suck when you're driving a stick, but my GTI's pretty good about it; all I have to do is slip the clutch and it gets moving on its own, so it's pretty much the same as an automatic, I'm just gradually releasing a different pedal.

Also, just so nobody gets the wrong idea, I'm not one of those guys that swears by manuals (they kind of get on my nerves). I love my GTI, but I'll buy an automatic just as quickly, it just sort of depends on the car I'm going after.

I don't know what it's like in Canada, but public transportation in southern urban places like Dallas is shit. Couldn't use it even if I wanted to, since the buses around here don't run at the times I go to and from work.

I too drive a stick, and yes, it is indeed fun. Accelerates much faster than an automatic.

What is NOT fun, however, is getting the car moving while parked on an uphill slope. I think that's quite possibly the most difficult driving experience one can have, apart from trying to do so while the ground is covered with snow or sand.

Well, it looks like I've gotten A's in all my exams (if you can include A-'s), even for specialist maths. My rank based on overall grade has placed me in the top 3.25% of the state. Although hopefully when my 5th subject comes out, it will scale well, knock out my worst subject, and raise my rank even further.

Calgary is pretty good, for me anyways. We are actually trying to convince more people to use their cars less and transit or other options more. Average usage is 250,000 people per day as of 2010. That's roughly 1/5 or so of the city's population that uses the train. More and more people use it every year. We are expected to open the west leg of the LRT in March 2013, which includes 7 new stations and around 8 km of track. In the mean time we've had a 60 foot accordion bus run which stops along the route of the new LRT where the new stations are until it gets built.

Can't say moving uphill has ever been a serious issue for me. It's just a matter of either giving it more gas or in a worst case scenario (which I've never had to resort to) using the handbrake then quickly disengaging it when you take off. Far as inclement weather goes, I've heard starting in second gear helps a bit (and is pretty much the only circumstance where it's acceptable) but I've never had to do it myself. Might wind up getting to find out personally in the coming months though, if we have another snowpocalypse in February like we did last year.

Been reading the Game of Thrones books, best fiction I've read in ages I'd recommend them highly to anyone who likes cerebal fantasy, not a lot of action but great dialog especially from the Imp. I went off reading books for a while after I plowed through most of Philip K Dicks work, its nice to find another writer that interests me.
