Wait a few more years, then they'll come up with an oven/computer hybrid. The temperature will be adjusted by changing the graphics settings in Crysis.

You know, one of these days, Crysis will no longer be the joke of high system settings....one of these days.

You know, if I see Crysis on the cheap end, I might buy it....I played the demo or something ages ago.

even when Crysis get's cheap, your comp may not be, if you want to play the entire 'glory' on PC.

Try DNF, here is a link from a street fight in DNF from IGN, before they realized negative reviews gets you more attention. Posted Image

Or FSX. I turned all the settings on ultra high, and I was only getting 18 FPS. Even at 5 GHz. Like Crysis, FSX isn't optimized that well. It came out just when Hyperthreading and multicore chips were first on the market (2006). It is said that Microsoft Flight (FS11), will be better optimized. With SLI, hyperthreading, and proper multicore support. FSX supports multicore, but most of the work is done by the first CPU. The rest of them are used, but not that much. Microsoft Flight should be released in 2011 or 2012. Although sources are hinting at a November 2011 release date. Flight will be less CPU dependent and more GPU dependent. Some people are saying that with a Sandy Bridge system at stock speed and a GTX 480 or higher, you should be able to max everything out and get good framerates.

Wow...that guy sucks at FPS. I have a $20 Gamestop card so I'll check out the online store and see what I can get for that. I have no real money to spend since bills and all that shit are raping me.

Futurama seems to be back to it's old self. This season's episodes were very thought out. Not a lot of penis jokes or other adult humor in this season.

Uh... I'm having hard-dive problems... Anyone here have any suggestions for a new hard-drive that i can buy? I have to replace my old broken one.

I had issues with Seagate these past few years. My Western Digital 1 TB Black I bought in 2009 and it's still working. Seagate drives failed every month or so for a year. My Raptors I bought back in 2003 or so are still working as well. They're not installed in anything, but I checked about 6 months ago and they still work.

I just bought a 2TB WD Caviar Black to replace some of my aging drives... one of the drives I'm going to replace has 71468 hours of powered on time as of this posting according to SMART, so it's probably time to retire it and some of the others in favor of modern stuff that uses less power and generates less heat.

I've had a few Seagate drives in the past (300 GB), which still work, but I guess in 2008-2009, they had an issue with the drives freezing up. Said it was due to firmware or something.

I've never had a drive crash on me. I guess I'm lucky. I don't use external hard drives anyway except for backups, so it's no loss if one of them does go, unless for some reason I really needed a file from over a year ago that I deleted and can't get a copy of.

Edit: I added a tonne of stuff to the level editing section of the wiki: http://forums.duke4....post__p__101056

I don't have a job, technically I'm a student. And technically I'm making near-pointless corrections to an ancient wiki/spending all day on a Duke Nukem forum when I've got exams in 2 days Posted Image

My hard drive showed up today and I'm fairly certain I've inadvertently helped some Asian kid launder money by buying it. First off, this was an eBay purchase. I only paid $125 (shipping included) for it and it ended up coming directly from NewEgg with 2 day shipping.

That, coupled with the fact that the billing address was nowhere even similar to the name on the PayPal account my money went to (not to mention the account has no address listed and is foreign) leads me to believe the guy is laundering money through eBay by listing items he doesn't have, using a stolen credit card to buy them and ship them to buyers and pocketing the resulting money through use of a throwaway PayPal account.

It's not exactly clever but it works I guess.

He hasn't gotten away with it yet. He could end up in jail in a few months for all we know.

Edit: Does anyone know the way of spelling jail in Australian english is actually gaol? That's how you're supposed to spell it (I think it comes from brittish english). And normally I always prefer the Australian spelling of words over American, like colour instead of color for instance.

But I don't like it for 2 reasons. Firstly, phonetically it looks like it should be pronounced "gay-all." And secondly, it's super easy to confuse it with the word "goal" if you're skimming through stuff. "Jail" just looks so much more natural.

I guess since I can't find another key to my place, Cosmo might have to stay at my mom's place while I go to Toronto on the 26th. You know how much cats hate car rides? :(

Well, the grapheme G actually has a few distinct phonemes attached to it. There is the voiced velar plosive (guttural, broadly) sound that comes from the back of the throat (guh). This sound is derivative of unvocalized gutturals in Arabic and Hebrew. There is also the voiced alveolar palatal that is sounded more from the front of the mouth along the lines of palatals or sibilants (juh). This results in names like Gerry and Jerry both being pronounced the same (or not). George, for example, is a name pronounced with the alveolar palatal rather than the guttural.

So, in that case, gaol could be phonetically pronounced the same, more or less, as the jail.

I'm just curious, but why is it at work that you can't talk about outside work stuff? I understand personal stuff is a no no, but I was just saying goodbye to someone for a couple minutes because I wasn't going to see her until August because of my vacation. My supervisor starts freaking out. Still, I've seen her talk about non-work stuff, so what gives?

Sounds to me like your boss is a douchebag.

I have to go to the hospital tomorrow. I've got some serious food poisoning. I've been shitting melted rocky road ice cream for a week. I'm too faint and sick to drive now.

I bought a Gopher just in case I get stuck in a hospital. Hell, it's good to have regardless. $60 with a 2GB SD card and I can play nearly every Genesis game ever on it. Too bad the sound quality is haggard due to the poor sound emulation.

I love my Sega Nomad like a son but it's way too impractical for day to day use.

I once had a family member's 500GB Seagate hard drive "crash". It turned out it was some stupid firmware bug that shut down the drive (making it disappear from POST and BIOS) because it had some error in SMART handling, so I had to buy a USB cable for an outdated Nokia cell phone online (for $0.01 :(), cut off the phone connection end, attach the wires to the jumper port of the hard drive, terminal into it, and clear the error, then update the firmware so it wouldn't happen again. I'm never buying a Seagate drive after that.

I got a 1.5TB Western Digital Caviar Green for $99 about 18 months ago. It works like a dream, but I only have 80 GB free on it now. :(

I'm a bit worried that such a large drive may crash, even though SMART is shining, Western Digital rocks, and I've had no problems, so whenever I get a new rig, I'll get two identical drives and use RAID0/RAID1, whichever simply has them both act as the same drive redundantly.

She can be nice, but far too serious. Why, so, serious? :(

Work isn't about work. I mean it is, but there should be time for small talk. Still, I'm probably going to be looking for a new job in the fall. I don't plan on having a career putting stuff back on shelves.

We still pronounce gaol as jail, but it still looks like "gay-all".

So wait do we actually hold conversations in this thread or post random stuff? I think I'm on the wrong page here.
