What are the Grammys?

Helix's focus for the past year or so has been Lunatic, which involves a whole new scripting language derived from Lua, as well as a new map format and possibly lots of other smaller changes under the hood.

TerminX has stated that someone else was working on the multiplayer code, but that person finished what they were supposed to do ages ago. TerminX was always going to do the rest of the stuff necessary to complete the code.

TerminX has a family and has had some important events go on in the past year or so. He's a busy guy.

I wrote this, and then I wasn't going to post it, but now I am: I'm really disappointed and irritated at the bitching about a free project apparently not being good enough for some people.

Multiplayer is pretty hard to finish when you're stuck going through cross-country moves, raising a child, have a wife that sleeps literally more than 50% of her life due to illness and is sick the rest of the time, etc. It's difficult to get anything done when you're bouncing between taking care of a toddler and checking on your wife who's stuck in the bathroom puking her guts out. 4 years of this shit. And then, in what little free time you have, you're stuck on an Internet connection that is too poor to play said multiplayer even if it was finished. Pretty soon that free time is going to be entirely filled with packing everything into boxes and loading up a shipping container so we can get out of here. And you're whining because you still can't reliably blast a bunch of pigcops online.

If you want to see it finished any time soon, find us an additional programmer with enough free time and skill to accomplish it. Why is this supposed to be 100% my responsibility? Starting the project and dumping almost a decade of time into it wasn't good enough? My life is fucked and I don't have the time or energy to write a bunch of code at the moment. Literally not capable of it right now. There are plenty of skilled programmers out there who could finish this up pretty easily but I don't see any effort put into finding any of them, just posts about how much you guys think it sucks that it's not done and handed to you on a silver platter yet. Honestly, the whole thing has been probably 90% for a LONG time now... if anyone wanted it that badly, presumably someone would have gotten off their ass and put some effort into working on it themselves or finding someone who could by now. After all, it's not like the source code isn't available. The guy from Gearbox made a lot of progress... likely all this is going to take is a skilled programmer with networking experience who doesn't have problems doing what other people tell them. Until then, at least you have that old sync-based multiplayer in Megaton...

P.s. Hendricks is a senior developer because a.) I thought he deserved a title better than "team member" and b.) this guy just started college but has been in our community for nine years. Do the math. Best behaved kid ever. He gets a gold star. He also works on things I ask him to work on, which is much appreciated. He deserves the title I painstakingly spent 0.275s thinking up whether you think so or not.

I don't think Micky was entirely wrong with what he said. We just didn't have the full picture yet. Now we do.

But TerminX has spoken about some of these things here and there before. And even without his life circumstances, has TerminX not already provided us with so much, often without thanks? I know I'm a massive asshole, but it baffles me that I of all people have to point out that TerminX is really under-appreciated. We owe a lot to him. Hats off to TX.

:( Unfortunately, this spirit of unthankfulness is very contagious among our community. I could make a whole list of people that were under-appreciated. Richard Gobeille (our very own TerminX), ProAsm, David Koenig, Matt Klein, NY0123, Replica, Luis Garcia, just to name a few.

So... 4 senior developers and we've still got multiplayer and the latest renderer left unfinished for years.

This line was an afterthought to the post and was actually intended as a joke at the irony of the situation, perhaps not to high taste, but a joke none the less and in hindsight I should have made this clear. Then my post after that was just to clear up what Lunick said about who was originally planning to what, rather than to assign "blame".

As Captain Awesome has stated you've made mention in the past of personal problems in your life and so I was aware of a lot of what you said, so please try to believe me when I say I have the greatest respect and appreciation for yourself, the project and all the eduke developers, and that I understand that life, work and family always come first, which usually results in longer term progress some times. Of course I'm grateful for how far eduke32 has come and all the work put into it over the years.

Once again the line was simply an attempt of humour (with not much thought put into it) at the general situation, not not to be a complaint or criticism of anyone in particular, and I did not expect or consider at the time that people might take it seriously. As such to be perfectly honest I felt a little hurt when Hendricks personally attacked me on the previous page 'seemingly' out of nowhere, but now I see his reaction was valid and the fault is mine. I apologize for any bitterness I may have caused.

Pete Seeger has died at the age of 94. He would be 95 this May

http://www.denverpos...died?source=rss

He was a legendary musician.
I'm sure some of you heard of him.

As a song writer, he was the author or co-author of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" (with Joe Hickerson), "If I Had a Hammer (The Hammer Song)" (composed with Lee Hays of The Weavers), and "Turn, Turn, Turn!", which have been recorded by many artists both in and outside the folk revival movement and are still sung throughout the world. "Flowers" was a hit recording for The Kingston Trio (1962); Marlene Dietrich, who recorded it in English, German and French (1962); and Johnny Rivers (1965). "If I Had a Hammer" was a hit for Peter, Paul & Mary (1962) and Trini Lopez (1963), while The Byrds popularized "Turn, Turn, Turn!" in the mid-1960s, as did Judy Collins in 1964 and The Seekers in 1966.

No worries... at this point, everything in my life is so disappointing and irritating anyway that I definitely would have forgotten all about this by today at least. My wife is at probate court right now so we can find out how soon we lose "our" house... the lawyer told her to be there 30 minutes early, court starts in 7 min and he's still a no-show. Life just sucks.
