150°Duke 3D Next Gen Remake Gets The Greenlight From Gearbox

It's a big deal to us as we've lived it and breathed it since 1995/6. You may find that they are not rabid fans, but just have fond memories of DN3D from 'back in the day'. In that case, they probably never even noticed that the vest says LARD. I personally think that considering how good that pig-cop looks, the letters on his chest are really a minor detail. I know I'm going to get flamed for that, but that is just my opinion.

The real test of if this is going to be "worth it" or not will be if they nail the gameplay and the humour of Duke. That to me is the really important aspect of this. I'm looking forward to having some cool next-gen stuff to play with. Even more than that though, I'm looking for some old-school game-play to go with those next-gen toyz! http://forums2.duke4...tyle_emoticons/default/tongue.gif . THAT won't be evident for a while. I'm hoping that they do nail that.

See what happens.

When they said that they were going to limit Duke's speed\run ability, I thought that it wasn't worth it. Also hearing this is stupid: "We're making it as if it were made today and not back in 1996." Not a direct quote, but that's just fucking asinine. Duke Nukem is far from a realistic game, they don't have to fuck with it and make it worse than the original. It's bullshit. Just my opinion though.

Oh boo hoo.

It sounds just fine. Personally, I think the rendition is very slick.

Boo hoo on your face. I can't stand sampled guitars. And I'm even more let down by the fact that they're being used for a Duke Nukem theme song. As for everything else, it's just a DNF 2001 rip-off with a bit of artistic license (and fake guitars). Yes, Duke3D had a MIDI soundtrack but that was only due to limitations at the time. There's no reason they can't get a real guitarist to record those parts. Fake guitars sound horrendous.

Getting a guitarist, then all the equipment necessary for a good sound is a lot of money. Though of course, these fabled audio guys should already have this stuff in their studio.

Looking at the two audio guys' pages, it seems sampled audio is all they do. Then again, this is videogame music. What were we expecting? http://forums2.duke4...tyle_emoticons/default/laugh.gif

Load of crap. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using sample/synth instruments for music. Nothing at all. Not even in Duke Nukem's case. Especially if money is a concern. You use what you have.

Hey, here's an idea! If it bothers you so much, why dont you get involved? You have talent in this area after all. http://forums2.duke4...tyle_emoticons/default/smile.gif

I'm fucking flabbergasted by how this is obviously gonna be shit because they didn't put LARD on a fucking concept art picture or in a normal map. That's way more important than even gameplay, you know!

Point taken! But they haven't shown us any gameplay, have they? We can only comment on what we can see.

I know you are joking CS, but with this attitude, it's no wonder the HRP is taking ages to finish http://forums2.duke4...tyle_emoticons/default/sad.gif

Well, to start with, the guy who started this project handpicked someone on the Gearbox forums who was making Duke remixes with an actual guitar to do the music for the MOD, and offer to which he accepted. What happened to him?

I'd offer to do it myself but I just don't have time to devote to a free project with school and my other musical obligations. What seems even more pathetic is that they're attacking anybody who doesn't have anything but praise to say about their work. It's sad really. It's just, to me as a guitarist, sampled guitars are just a cheap hack. You can totally tell when they're being used and it's quite jarring. If that's all they can do then fine so be it, but I find it strange that the team isn't able to find ONE real guitarist who'd be willing to record guitars for nothing on this project. Especially for a Duke Nukem theme, a real guitar is pretty much mandatory. Sampled guitars just aren't bad@$$ enough I'm sorry.

That´s true. Finally it's DukeNukem, that´s the reason i didn´t include any guitar sound on ReDuked (just 30 secs. on Departure but it was acoustic not electric) there's nothing like the sound of a real guitar.

EDIT:

Oh, I wouldn't want to do the music myself. Just the guitar sections. But as I said, no time.

Yes, we can't argue with those that are musically inspired. http://forums2.duke4...tyle_emoticons/default/wink.gif In any case, I noticed that the remix sucked, not sure about the guitar, I'm not that musically inclined except with techno music, but it just seems old fashioned for "Next Gen." I don't know, I do know a guitarist that is into Duke, but I've never heard him play personally, but there are others that I have heard play that aren't into Duke, but they're pretty good. They definitely should be able to find a guitarist that would do it for free.

Yes, because it is the first priority to find a real guitarist early in the process.
My Gawd, they even "found" John St. John himself doing the recordings for this game ... so I am sure in all the months somebody will click that "Apply" button to record the guitars.

You know, I was going to type in CS, just to annoy you, but I thought, If I type in CS, just to annoy you, it would be a really dick thing to do, so you know what, just for you, I won't type in CS at all, just because you have requested that I don't type those two letters (CS) again. I hope you appreciate that.

Well, if they're going to release demo versions of the theme song this early on then they should.

Lol. fresh's first priority is collecting cash. The new 'club' gives a lot of privileges. You can enter the club only through donations. Then you can visit the member forum, get the demo downloads and basically follow the progress of the project. This is all good, but from my end, dirt poor, I will not know anything about the project until it's out in about three to four years. As before, I wish you guys all the best ... but you guys start to smell a little. Sad really. It had potential. :P

p.s. I edited this post twice, I hope it's clear now what I'm getting at http://forums2.duke4...tyle_emoticons/default/smile.gif

We care deeply about our community - And everyone following our website, and forum will get the latest news and media.

We are just treating the fans, who have been generous enough to donate to the project, with news and media
a few days earlier than the rest of the community. We dont see anything wrong in that.

This is really no different than the Duke Nukem Forever "First Access Club".
Besides we actually updates ours relatively often.

We dont require anyone to donate.
Everyone will get the same news and media - And the next Duke Nukem game FOR FREE.

But people have to realize the necessity of donations for a project like this to live.

Webservers, SVN Server, Tools (Licenses to our production tools), Management Systems, etc.
all costs money - And those services are kept alive by your donations.

Actually, every penny besides running our services, goes towards our fans.
We have many plans for merchandise and extras, which will be handed out to
fans, through Fan Art competitions, "Best One-Liner" contests, "Map of the Week" competitions etc.

Last but not least, i hope you are enjoying following the project.
Everything goes as scheduled, and we have some great things to share
in the coming months.

Without you, this project would never have happened!

Project Lead

Here is the link to Reloaded forum showing the classes of donations.
http://www.dukenukemreloaded.com/forum/vie...p?f=9&t=429

Valve/Steam is promoting fan funded projects. Gearbox combined a real hot game with the early access club of Duke Fans. - This is the first modification I know that caters to sponsors and spells out specific classes of access to exclusive material. Is it wrong? I'm not a judge. Who knows, this may be the way of the future, but without me. http://forums2.duke4...tyle_emoticons/default/tongue.gif
