150°Duke 3D Next Gen Remake Gets The Greenlight From Gearbox
#241 Posted 14 December 2010 - 12:29 AM
Now that we have Polymer, there is no reason that the HRP can't at least look like Doom III, which is a significant improvement. The modellers need to re-make the HRP in next-gen style. The problem is that most of the modellers have left a while ago to work on more advanced engines.
It would be great to re-make the levels and replace things like cash registers, cars and vending machines with real models. I don't think that the community is ready for that yet. You'd need to start a new mod and tackle it. Duke Plus is starting to do that.

Thank you very much you bastard. At least I don't post half the random shit you and blackharted post. As for moderators\admins, I am sorry, I just don't like to tolerate insults without giving one back unless feces has some new meaning that I am unaware of.
Edit: And yes I am aware of mapster32 tile 2200.

Why would I edit it if I didn't know? Moron. People misunderstand things, like blackharted, he's so misunderstood... XD

There was some suggestion that the PHRP (Polymer HRP) should be run more like a separate mod, rather than a free-for-all, so that we could actually have an 'Art Director' who could check things out and hand stuff back to people if they didn't fit into the current feel of the pack. At the moment, people just come and dump stuff off and it either fits or it dosen't, there is no cohesion. Night Fright tries to keep stuff on track, and he's done a good job of putting packs together and organizing stuff.
The really great thing about the HRP was that it allowed everybody to do something for it. People learned to model and one or two of them got careers out of it at the end of the day. Maybe that is more important in one way than the actuall HRP itself.

Maybe that is more important for those people who benefited. For the remaining 99.99% of us, the most important thing is having a quality HRP.

I can spot a few things that aren't quite ok.
First, the shotgun is gay, I don't like shotguns with spare shells attached to their side.
Second, they are fucking blind and ignorant when it comes to small details it seems, because they wrote L.A.P.D on the pig cop's uniform instead of L.A.R.D...

Aww that's a smart and nice artistic thing to do. If that's the case, for the time being, I take "they are fucking blind and ignorant when it comes to small details" back.
As for the shotgun, I still hate it though.

It's okay, just a DNF 2001 ripoff, or perhaps just DNF 2001, with a rather generic and unsatisfying Grabbag. Nothing to get worked up about.
As for the video, it doesn't really show anything.

It's too bad, because the pigcop mesh was the best thing in that video.
I think that qualifies as a serious error, though, and it shows that the people involved are not very knowledgeable about the Duke Nukem universe. Not only did the modeler not know, but whoever made and reviewed the video before it was released (including, presumably, the head of the project) didn't know either.
For those who don't know, Duke Nukem 3D was made shortly after a number of controversies involving the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in the early 1990's. It's fair to say that the LAPD had a bad reputation at that time. The makers of Duke Nukem were aware of this and wanted to have some fun with it, so they put the label LARD on the pig cops. Clever, because it looks similar to LAPD, it's a word that refers to grease (as in pig fat or bacon grease), and it makes fun of the LAPD controversies without directly insulting the entire LAPD force.
To go ahead and put "LAPD" on there, and then for everyone to leave that in the movie shows that they haven't even looked carefully at any of the sprites or models that have gone before. And these are the people who are going to remake the game? Weak.

2nd time I post this:
fresch on facebook:
"Yeah.. The vest says L.A.P.D, since its an L.A.P.D Cop, who is mutated. The "R" is written over the P, as a graffiti letter, on the final version wink.gif"
Fresch on the DNR Forum:
"Because its LAPD.
The "R" is something the aliens did them selves.
Its painted over the P on the texture."

Well of course it's going to be fixed after lots of people have pointed it out. It sounds like covering up for a mistake. I mean, why put the letters in the mesh at all, then? It's not like they need to be engraved into the uniform. Personally, I think it would make more sense to leave the letters off the mesh entirely, then allow for different skins with different variations. There could be pigcops from different police departments, and some that are not police based at all.
