Is it somehow possible to use saves from normal duke nukem 3d? I can not find save files anywere there

I dont think its possible to use old save files from older versions of eDuke but im not sure from Vanilla Duke though.

Yes, you can use them with normal Duke Nukem 3D. Oh, you mean use them with EDuke32? No.

Some kind of a converter for old save files might be useful (if such a conversion is possible).

Hm, not really. Why would anyone want to use that except for once in a lifetime when switching to eduke32? In addition this tool would need to be constantly updated since the save files of different eduke32 versions might be incompatible as well. (This happened quite often in 2009.)
IIRC the save file contains the map, the changes through gameplay plus the current CONs. So it should be doable to create a conversion tool. But however long the TODO list of the eduke32 developers might be, I'm sure this would be the bottom entry.

Just load the map you were on as a user map, open the console and spawn the stuff you had; it should only take about 30 seconds.
