Proper way to install eduke32/hrp?

Ok.. I know this has probably been asked a million times, but please be gentle :D I swear I've spent at least the last hour going through forum posts and wiki's and help files!

What's the proper way to install eduke and the hrp/polymer? My main issue is that I dont have an autoload directory anywhere which leads me to believe I'm missing something important or something isnt installed right.

Here's what I have: eduke32_win32_20100831-1705.zip, polymer_hrp132.zip, and the installers for atomic edition and manhattan project.

Is eduke and polymer standalone? Other than the grp file obviously.. Meaning, do I need to install eduke on top of an existing original duke3d installation dir?

Should I install an earlier release version of polymer first, then install the newest one over the top of that?

What exactly creates the autoload directory in \duke3d?

Thanks a lot. I know it's total newbstuff, but I can't figure out what I'm missing.

You need to extract the eduke zip into a folder (eg. C:\duke3d\) and this does not include an "autoload" folder; you'll have to make one. Inside of this folder, C:\duke3d\, you need to place the DUKE3D.GRP. From this point, the game should run and you should be able to play the original levels etc.

I can't remember exactly how to install the HRP since I have done it so long ago and I can't find the original zip files so I'm not sure the file structure inside those. Someone else will have to come in and help.

Ahh ok, I thought the autoload folder was supposed to be created by either the original duke install or eduke, or another package I was missing. This should get me taken care of I think. Thanks :D

I should add that Manhattan Project is not in any way related to eduke32. It should run on Windows actually on its own.

If you want the "proper" way of installing the HRP then you would follow this guide from where Mr.Fibble left off.
