It has a few new info though , worth a read.
More of histroy and proceedings explanations , something that not a lot of companies ever tell. (corporations not at all ) But gearbox seems to be very loyal to fans , it has proven even me , let us see how that trust will be enhanced or broken based on the post support of this game , free patches pc ?!!!

Steve Gibson also mentions that normally you have media and all prepared befor the announcement! They started to work on the media campaign when PAX took place apparently. He thinks it was the only way to do this and they are working very quickly to keep up with the marketing campaign! Randy says that one could think they tease us but that's not the case he says!
Good to hear all this!

Did you noticed that at 9:17 he said "Duke is gonna save the world even if he has to do it all by himself" I think that he is referring to that famous quote in 2001 DNF Trailer Check this out: Duke Nukem Forever 2001 trailer (youtube) at time 1:28

nobody trusts him, everyone just thinks that he is "bluffing" or doing misdirection, so in case 1st February doesn't happen he could say "I told you not to bet on 1st February".
As he said many times - game content is complete, they're betatesting and settling release date with retailers.
Retailers most likely want 1st February release date as it can "cure" their drop in after Xmas sales - my bet is that it would really help. However RP sees that it would help retailers but it wouldn't help him - he wants to make it game of the year so February is too early. Maybe he is aiming at summer - in land of blind - one-eyed is king. The best will be obviously fall 2011 but it's our worst nightmare and it's also huge risk - he bought IP, so he thinks that the game is gonna be good (well sold), however he wants to make more money of it so he can do either:
1/ release the game in February - Summer 2011 range and wait what happens
2/ wait till fall 2011 and silently prepare Duke Begins (or whatever) however if it turns out that Duke is not so good IP after all he is in double trouble...

You know what? Because I know that if DNF fucks up, Randy fucks up too, I will actually have a reason to be a bit happy if DNF HAPPENS to fuck it up(even though I don't want it to).
If DNF got released by George and it did fuck up, I wouldn't have been happy at all. But if it fucks up and fails to breath life into the Duke IP aka ruins Randy's, Gearbox's and 2k's investment into the Duke brand, I would actually have a reason to laugh instead of just being sad that DNF failed after all this time.
So, as far as I am concerned, no matter what happens with Duke Nukem Forever, I will still enjoy the end result more or less.
If anything, Randy bought me a reason to not be completely sad if DNF fails!
And for some reason, I have a feeling that if DNF fails to sell and gain fans, George will be happy too, because he at least got some of the money back from those 20mil that he invested in it!

No, I think that if it would fail he wouldn't be happy that it failed at all. I said that I suspect he would be happy that he is outside the hot zone if it happens to fail.
If the game fails, I suspect he might be happy to observe it failing from the outside and not the inside.
Disappointment is one thing but losing loads on money is another. As far as I understand, George got his share of cash for DNF and Duke Nukem's brand and no matter how well or bad DNF will sell, George won't get any further cash from 2K.
Everything DNF makes, will end up in 2k's and Gearbox's pockets.
George would have to be crazy or hate Randy way too much to hope that DNF fails and I'm sure that's not the case, but in case it does fail, George might actually be both disappointed that his vision and work wasn't appreciated while at the same time be relieved it wasn't him that failed directly!

You could also look this from a other point of view. Gearbox is only assembling DNF, so in the end George his work would still pop-up in the game and off course this game is being assembled by the vision of 3DR.
So if George was looking for a new job in the gaming industries he still could tell that he worked on DNF and they will instantly know who he is and what he can do.
This would be a big plus point for him, at least i would see it like that. For Gearbox they are actually only assembling the Game and deliver it to 2K Games.
I know DNF has the potential to fail because of the many years of development, but in a other way because of those years it can sell outrageous.
Just look for example at the Call of Duty series, every year those games are a big hit on the selling charts, modern warfare was decent but modern warfare 2 just sucked but still sold millions of copy's. Now Treyarch has the torch and don't you think this game isn't going to sell? Even if most models, sounds and textures are refurbished from Call of Duty World at War.
DNF has the Myth, Vaporware awards, long development, everybody wants to see what this game is about even if it is going to fail or not but my € 50,- are already at my local gamestore for only this game.

Yeah but don't forget you are saying this on a duke nukem fan forum while having an avatar with you and Randy in it.
I was talking about the game selling to people that are not like you or me for that matter.

interesting - i don't know a single guy that doesn't want to buy dnf.
duke is, like lara croft, mainstream - and mainstream doesn't fail. (oh and before you say it's not mainstream think for some time about what i just wrote)
dnf going to fail? don't think so.

In today's world where 95% of games fail, I wouldn't be surprised if this failed too.
But I would even buy the game if it failed, because I would be curious to see how it failed.

I wonder, if they had decided to keep the secret of its continued development at Gearbox a little longer, until they were just weeks from release, that could've have had a big impact on sales. The hype and rumors would've exploded at the right moment. Now it just settled down. Even the trailer will not bring back the initial surprise.

I think people need to stop thinking Duke is mainstream or will ever be mainstream anymore. He's Bruce Campbell cult. Duke is a cult franchise, if not a joke franchise now. Expect a decent game, but don't pretend Duke is coming back. We all know the truth.

That the climate of gaming has changed and people don't really want to identify with characters like Duke anymore. It's partly due to technology becoming so advanced that any attempt to try and imprint a character on your gaming experience destroys the sense of immersion.
Duke will still likely be a good game, but Duke coming back as a full-fledged franchise, like back when systems needed mascots? No way.

The platform mascot thing is a good theory.
How sega has Sonic and Nintendo has Mario the pc had multiple mascots though. Commander Keen, Dangerous Dave and even though the pc had games that were more popular than Commander Keen and Dangerous Dave (like doom for ex) they didn't have identifiable characters to become mascots.
The big problem of doom is that no matter how great it was/is It lacks a protagonist very badly!
I would say that the most awesome contender for the PC mascot competition is Indeed Duke Nukem, because it has both a kick ass Fps game in which he stars and he has such a well defined character that everybody loved back then!
Out of all the contenders for lifetime PC mascot competition, I pick Duke Nukem hands down!
What's sad is that, games are made for everybody and they aren't made for multiple target audiences.
Like have games made strictly for old school fps gamers and then have games made for new generations too.

Whatever dude, you're too obsessed with Duke to see hard facts. You let your love for Duke keep blinding you to the fact that companies are abusing you. It was you who on the 3DR forums kept saying "oh it will be out soon" when release dates kept slipping and it was you who kept believing all these ridiculous speculated dates when we would get a trailer, or screenshot or something. Yet those dates never appeared Jobi, and yet you fell for it again and again and again and again etc...
Being a fan and being gullible are not the same thing. I'm not saying you have to be a jaded cynical motherfucker, but damnit Jobi, don't be so obsessed and optimistic that you'll believe anything GBX/3DR tells you. For one thing, when DNF fails like everyone else knows it will, you'll be a suicide risk, or a non-suicidal basket case. Either or.
Your overbearing and creepily obsessive wanking over the Duke franchise brings up horrible comparisons to the depraved end of the furry fandom. And that's why I don't like you nor want to be associated with you and am embarrassed to be in the same community as you Jobi. God forbid someone thinks I'm exactly like you.
Be a fan, but don't be a cultist. :3
